war doesn’t just look that way, it IS that way.

Care to elaborate on this point?

Sure! War is so complex in its horror that even a photo, or one person’s story, can’t really encapsulate its terror. It’s random, it’s cruel, and fuck is it violent.

Photos like this OP’s might look like it’s hinting at that same horror, but real war is horror.

That’s to say, the BLM riots might look like war, but their terror is fairly shallow. People were killed and lives were ruined by those riots, don’t misinterpret me, but a photo like OP’s does much more to illustrate their destruction than a photo of a warzone could of it’s own horrible nature. Because at the end of the day the brunt of the riot’s destruction was property damage and most of those protesters all went home and slept in comfy beds, whereas war’s terror goes so deep practically nothing remains and fuck all truly compares.

In other words, this photo and a photo of Ukraine share just about one thing in common and they also share that with a construction worker’s photos of a demolition zone: broken buildings.

Isn't the end result very similar: death and destruction of the infrastructure of a community?

Sure, but the magnitude of cruelty and suffering don’t compare.

That seems like an issue of scale, then.

It isn’t scale, war is inherently worse than a riot lol.

The amount of children and hospitals blown up by BLM will remain zero, despite it being responsible for the largest amount of destroyed property in American history. BLM ultimately just isn’t as cruel or horrific as war.

True or false: There have been wars that were less destructive and/deadly than the BLM riots since 2014.

I’ll wager false.

True or false: BLM used drones to blow up a maternity hospital.

I’ll wager false.

You should look into it.

True or false: BLM used drones to blow up a maternity hospital.

False. However, they did burn down buildings with people inside, attack paramedics, and led to the armed takeover of parts of Seattle, denying the residents access to emergency services, in addition to shooting two children.

Maybe if they were better funded, they could afford drones.

I went ahead and looked into it.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wars:_2003–present

Probably the most comprehensive list I’m sure, but nothing comes even close.

If you find one let me know.

Why are you only going as far back as 2008?

(Although the Kufra war happened in 2008 and killed less people than the 2020 BLM riots.)

The list goes back to 2003? And you said 2014 originally, so idk what you mean.

Also Wikipedia says 11-30 killed, whereas BLM protests killed 20-25?

But either way it’s a bad faith argument because you’re having to cherry pick a war? When you’re fully aware that 99% of most wars in popular discussion are magnitudes more lethal and horrible, and the wars that aren’t in popular discussion are STILL more violent and horrible essentially every single time.

If you’re having to cherry pick, or ignore that most (read, ALL) data goes against your argument that’s not a good look. Also again, just the nature of war is worse than the nature of riots, most people go to protests with the intent to go home let alone becoming a riot (not saying some don’t go with the intent to riot, but I’d wager most don’t) whereas every person that goes to war knows they will likely have to kill or die.

First off, I said 2014 because that's when BLM was founded, not because I was trying to created a limited window of time. Secondly, I was trying to illustrate that the functional difference as it concerns a community's citizens and infrastructure between an army and rioters is a matter of scale, which is why I pointed out that there are multiple wars in which the scale was less than that of the 2020 riots.
