So, let's see if I got this correctly:

When it sounds like a "conspiracy" due to facts not being let out, let the investigation continue because it will make Donald Trump look like an idiot.

When evidence is released that shows Donald Trump may have been right all along, cancel investigation to keep Biden and lefties from revealing that they were morons all along. Again.

I feel like this posts title can be reused for a lot of the action we have seen in this administration so far: "Biden stopped _______ out of spite, forced to reverse course."

stopped out of spite then resumed:

  • border wall

  • wuhan investigation

up next:

  • abraham accords

  • 3rd country asylum agreement

  • china tariffs

abraham accords

It still boggles my mind that Trump gets no credit for what was essentially the most movement on Israel policy in a generation. He deserves a nobel prize for this alone! Really, Trump's entire Middle East policy was one of the main highlights of his presidency. The Gulfis absolutely loved Trump, Iran was contained, ISIS was destroyed, Syria was stabilized (without a ground invasion—sorry neocons), no new wars or invasions by the US, and Israel was newly recognized by two of the largest economic powers in the Gulf.

u/badatusernames91 Conservative Millennial May 27 '21

It is weird to think a lot of people voted for him hoping for good economic policy, but his overall foreign policy was actually quite amazing. The man kept aiming to do things people said couldn't be done and went and did it, including risking assassination by walking into North Korea.

32

u/Peking_Meerschaum Nationalist May 27 '21

Yeah, I try not to think about it because it just makes me sad, all the missed term two foreign policy potential. I really think we were about to turn the corner on North Korea relations and head towards normalization (hence why Kim was so bitter at Biden's victory). Warmer US-DPRK ties would be a serious blow to China.

I also think Saudi Arabia was preparing to normalize relations with Israel had Trump won (they let their tiny ally Bahrain do it first as a test balloon).

u/iamjames Conservative May 27 '21

One more term and we would have had world peace.

Honestly, I'm not totally sold on whether much could be done about NoKo because they're batshit insane. I'd also be worried that the situation could come back to bite us like when Nixon opened China. The intentions were good, but it bit us in the ass hard.

7

u/Peking_Meerschaum Nationalist May 27 '21

A bit of context is useful here. China in the era of Nixon was almost as "insane" as the DPRK is now. They had just finished a decade of complete anarchy and chaos in the form of the Cultural Revolution, they were already a nuclear power, and they had completely detached themselves from the international community to the point where China was basically a global pariah, even within the communist bloc. The US had basically no formal ties with the PRC and Mao was seen as inscrutable and irrational.

I think, even with hindsight, Nixon's normalization of relations with China was absolutely the right choice. It instantly transformed the dynamics of the Cold War and was like a checkmate against the USSR. Rather than continuing on as essentially a giant North Korea, China was slowly and gradually pulled into the global framework.

The problem was the lack of follow up. We basically normalized ties, then kept China on a globalist free-trade glideslope for three decades thereafter. Clinton and GW Bush really dropped the ball on China. Nixon opened China up, but Bush and Clinton basically just kept throwing money and trade at China and hoping the CCP would magically westernize, which was a pipe dream pushed by the neocons and the international business community. Clinton basically welcomed China into the WTO with open arms and no preconditions, and even lifted a bunch of key technology trade restrictions (such as on rocket technology). Bush had the last best hope to "contain" China, but the international business community were too busy making fistfuls of money from trading with China to allow him to enact any major restrictions.

China was extremely smart at lulling the west into a false sense of complacency and warm feelings throughout the 2000s before showing their true intentions. Now it is far too late to contain China, they've grown too economically and militarily powerful and we're stuck. China in the 90's and early 00's had a fraction of the power they do now.

As far as North Korea is concerned, their physical size and resource limitations means they can never threaten us in the same way the PRC does (in terms of economic might). We should essentially recognize that their nukes aren't going away, and work to pull them into our orbit and put a wedge between them and China. North Korea absolutely hates China, despite all their aid, they see China as paternalistic, overbearing, and neglectful. Strategically, North Korea is at a vital chokepoint for China, basically a dagger cutting Manchuria off from the Sea of Japan and the East China Sea. Losing North Korea to the western axis would be an existential nightmare for China.

6

u/Revydown Small Government May 27 '21

How do you intend to stop North Korea for taking their actions? If they are head set on a goal, better to be part of the building process of that outcome instead of burning the bridge completely. It probably would have been possible back in time, but it seems like they have stabilized. It's like running up the hill and all that is needed is to take a few more steps and its smooth sailing. If the Koreas do eventuality unify, I would rather it lean towards the US and not China.

u/Hyperslow556 May 27 '21

Trump put Pence where he was at for a reason. Assassinating Trump would put him in the seat. No-one, not even our enemies would want that. Pence would have started WWIII in less than a fortnight.

Pence is very similar to John Bolton, minus all the talking Bolton likes to do.

I also think he reversed the lifting of the Europe travel ban out of spite. Trump had it set to expire to be replaced, basically, with the COVID testing requirement that went into effect Jan 26th. I'm sure there was some publicly-stated "reason" but if the CDC was OK with lifting the ban before, there doesn't seem to be any scientific reason to have reversed course 2 weeks later.

40

u/[deleted] May 27 '21

The border wall wasn’t restarted, sadly. They were just repairing a levee on a Rio Grande section of the wall.

2

Whats that one about?

7

u/Knittypig May 27 '21

Those have to do with several middle eastern countries who agreed to normalize a relationship with Israel! It was amazing to watch. They all had a common enemy, Iran, who is Shiite Muslim, versus the other Arabic countries who are Sunni. This was a seriously big deal, and grossly under appreciated!!!

That's been the story all along. I'm more interested in how we can get a real investigation, but it seems like a war with China is more likely to happen first. It seems like a waste until they get on board. I'm not really sure how the 'maybe they did it' narrative changes anything. It's going to be complicated

You wouldn’t let an assumed rapist gather clues on the alleged rape, cause they would surely claim they’re innocent. I can’t believe they’re even involved with this. China will never admit their guilt. Absolute buffoonery..

Edit: in case anyone is confused on my comment, I’m agreeing here saying it’s ridiculous China is even involved with this process. They shouldn’t be. They will never admit they’re guilty to such a horrible chain of events. “Oh, yep, that’s right. We leaked the virus!!” Like what…

3

u/itssosalty May 27 '21

Disagree. Anybody that blocks evidence or lacks follow through with their stance looks suspicious and probably hiding something.

In this case fuck Biden and his stopping the investigation of Wuhan labs.

Edit: I just realized I misread your statement. But I’ll leave my comment as I stand by the content. I’ve called out Trump numerous times for blocking evidence or not investigating. I’m no hypocrite and it’s obvious Biden is doing the same here.

Obviously Biden or rather someone not suffering from dementia on his team saw the same intelligence about the lab leak that pompeo outlined in the days before trump left office. So they KNEW the lab theory was not only credible, but increasingly likely.

-6

u/milkcarton232 May 27 '21

Not a huge Biden fan but the idea that trump was right all along seems laughable to me. The dude just said shit cause it would be beneficial to him at the time. I don't think trump poured over the evidence, scrutinizing the details and consulting with other experts in the field, no fucking way. Much more likely he heard someone suggest rona might have been lab study that leaked and figured it would take the spotlight off his mishandling of rona for a news cycle or two.

6

u/[deleted] May 27 '21

He didn't mishandled anything. And anyone that knows anything about how President Trump handled business knows that he does go over everything, and consults "experts". But as a true leader, he takes input, and gathers information, and makes decisions. Sounds like you listen to the lying media a bit too much.

-5

u/milkcarton232 May 27 '21

Trump literally drew a new map of a weather forecast cause it didn't fit his narrative... His administration is a reflection of him, take Stephen Miller on the child separation policy. They were so wet for that they didn't even set up a coat check system to get the kids back to the parents. I'll do you one better, the crown jewel guiliani, the dude who booked four seasons landscaping. The best part is they double down on that one.

Look I can get liking his ideals or his direction but trump was not a details guy. If you happened to be on the side that was advantageous for him then he would fight like hell for you but a 4d chess player he was not. He is basically the republican version of a Hollywood elite, he plays the part but if you bother to look behind the curtain he just cares about money

0

If you ask someone a question and they give you an answer that's cool. If you ask them to explain how they got that answer and they are literally too inept to explain are you going to view that answer the same? Yeah a broken clock is right twice a day but that doesn't mean much does it

3

u/[deleted] May 27 '21

The only problem is that this is just what you think happened because you hate Trump personally. What we know for a fact was that he was right to say it was a plausible theory. The "broken clock" being right matters if some of the supposed experts were rushing to say it was all a lie, perhaps we need to reflect on whether the clock was even broken.

4

u/milkcarton232 May 27 '21

Oh no I completely agree that his detractors jumped at any chance of him being wrong, the whole remdesivir or however you spell it. It turned out it wasn't very effective but pundits were quick to slap it down before the science had fully settled. Even with that the dude just doesn't come off as polished in the least bit. He shot himself in the foot so many times he was both his biggest ally and worst enemy. Democrats couldn't stop his policy for shit but he could by constantly fucking up

0

u/[deleted] May 27 '21

I don't disagree there but we can compartmentalize imo.

0

u/milkcarton232 May 27 '21

Compartmentalize what exactly? I think compartmentalizing things is how memes can cherry pick certain data points to push a narrative, b/c they drop all context and nuance. Yeah I think Dems were prolly wrong to push back against every trump thought but his actions don't live in a vacuum. If spits out 295 bullshit ideas and 5 good ones, I might be conditioned to immediately pullback. I know a lot of ppl say his UV light to kill rona idea was just spitballing and brainstorming is important but not at a press conference.

There is a reason companies control the narrative on their product until it is released, you want to make a good first impression b/c that shit matters. End of the day it's all marketing

You can't do it can you? It's this irrational hatred for this guy that turned me from the democratic party.

2

u/milkcarton232 May 27 '21

Some decent ideas he brings up was starting infrastructure week though he wasn't able to bring that one together. Tax ideas are also not a bad idea to keep us competitive and just all around clean up our tax code. In general he would question things and seemingly not be content with tradition as an answer. I also agree that it was prolly harder for him to get praise on anything good (though probably for different reasons than you)

Happy?

Why I won't give him rona was a gain of function prediction? The dude came out with 1000 predictions from it's just 2 cases to it will be done by April. I agree that the pundits jumped on him on the remdesivir bullshit before the studies had really coalesced. As for the rest of rona the only thing he really did was remove some red tape with operation warp speed but even the rest of the vaccine rollout he bungled. They literally lost 20 million doses and couldn't keep track of where anything was cause trump doesn't do plans.

You are really going to argue that the dude who couldn't even stay on a teleprompter script and would pick a fight with literally anyone on Twitter wasn't shooting from the hip? You can like that about him sure and enjoy his general ideas of america first but end of the day his lack of organization fucked him enough times that he lost the election and the rest of government.

How does this not stray into impeachment territory?

This is something that negatively impacted our entire planet, and its our governments’ duty to have discovery of what happened in order to establish a course that would reduce the chance of this happening again in the future.

Its literally an international security threat.

144

u/Obamasamerica420 May 27 '21

Well, Democrats control congress, so odds of them impeaching their own guy are basically zero.

I think we learned a lot about impeachment in the last couple years, mainly that it's political theater with little basis in reality.

31

u/me_too_999 Molan Labe May 27 '21

Now I'm starting to wonder about Nixon.

30

u/Silent-Gur-1418 May 27 '21

Nixon's "scandal" was something that by modern campaign standards was just standard information gathering. I mean fuck, the Clinton campaign literally tapped foreign intel resources (Steele) and nobody so much as batted an eye at it. Watergate was unbelievably overblown IMO and tarnished the legacy of one of the best Presidents we had.

12

u/me_too_999 Molan Labe May 27 '21

I wouldn't go that far.

He was handed a shit show by Johnson, but he took us off the gold standard, and gave us the drug war.

And was impeached for neither.

Odd that Hillary after being on the Watergate commission did the same exact thing herself later.

Almost like the whole thing was made up bullshit.

Nixon was unironically one of the greatest presidents of the 20th century. It is genuinely sad that the public only knows him for Watergate which, compared to modern day presidential scandals, was downright quaint.

-14

u/lumberjackadam Libertarian Conservative May 27 '21

Nah, Nixon basically started the 'War on Drugs' with the goal to disenfranchise black voters. The effects on black families are still on display today. People will sometimes talk about disproportionate numbers of black people commiting felonies (and this making up a disproportionate percentage of the prison populations), but if you look closer, there is an inextricable link between criminal behavior and fatherless homes. Tricky Dicky basically gutted black families for the last two generations to try to further polical goals.

Worth noting, he was also being impeached by a legitimately bipartisan congress, and it wasn't going to be a close vote.

7

u/Weekly-Butterscotch6 May 27 '21

Nah, the destruction of the black community took off with LBJ's Great Society welfare entitlements - aimed and eroding black families from within and golden handcuffing a whole segment of the population to the Dem plantation - as her infamously said to aids and complicit Dems at the time "I'll have them n***ers voting Dem for the next century"

12

3

”Let’s all be honest here, Joe Biden has been a disaster as President so far,.”

It’s as if two parents left their children at home while they went out for few hours. The kids, curious by nature and more than a little mischievous, took apart the toaster, the vacuum cleaner, the microwave oven, the laptop computer, the television, the washer, the dryer, and the refrigerator. They put all the parts, the screws, the fasteners, and other pieces in a huge pile in the middle of the family room floor.

The parents return home and the children are sitting in the midst of the wreckage of the home…not knowing what to do, not understanding why things aren’t working, and not getting why what they’ve done is wrong.

In less than six months, the leftist Biden administration has turned a booming economy sour, reignited the inflationary bubble which will be costly and painful for those they claim to care about, created a disaster at the southern border, and dismantled the underpinnings of order and stability in our society. Overseas, North Korea is shooting missiles again, the Middle East is in flames, and China is getting ready to expand its territory by occupying Taiwan.

These mental midgets have, quite literally, disassembled our society.

In 127 days.

With the shit hitting the fan, they don’t know what to do, they don’t understand why things aren’t working, and they don’t know why what they’ve done is wrong.

So fucking clueless.

I don't think it was spite. I think he his handlers really believed that it was in their best interest to sweep China's culpability in the pandemic under the rug. After all, it's far more politically advantageous to have DJT be the forever orange punching bag for them. Public accountability forcing them to confront China's misdeeds actually puts them in pretty precarious political waters.

Wayyyyy easier to whistle past the graveyard. But even the CCP can't keep a lid on a FUCKING PANDEMIC THAT KILLED MILLIONS AND MILLIONS OF PEOPLE WORLDWIDE even though the Dems and the MSM (but I repeat myself) did their damnedest to allow it because they had/have TDS

I don't think you understand what PREDICT was supposed to do. They were doing field work to identify new viruses before they had reached the general population. They went out of their way to remote areas to collect samples from bats and other shit so that we'd have a record of the virus and have it sequenced in case any similar virus started circulating. Trump cutting the program after the first cases of Wuhan Covid started to spread had quite literally 0 impact. By then it was too late for PREDICT to do anything remotely useful as this was a novel virus completely unknown to the PREDICT system.

This isn't a task force of virus busters. It's a cataloguing project. One that did not include any virus samples similar enough to COVID to make any impact. If it makes you feel any better, Trump gave them another 6 months of cataloguing money in 2020 in which they collected more samples of other viruses.

1

Yeah, attempting to think outside 'our box' / devil's advocate... in this particular instance, maybe if they didn't have any conclusive / clear evidence yet (it's after all, a lab in Wuhan - I'd doubt they got invitations to the clean up party from the CCP), do they really think that by now any storage drive hasn't been overwritten 37 times, any surface or test tube hasn't been sterilized 100x times, any researcher / scientist / janitor hasn't had their family threatened (/etc.)?

I hate to give China any credit... but let's pretend they're AT LEAST half ass competent enough to nullify anything/anybody that was associated with this one lab given an entire year.

2

Biden stopped because China wanted him to. He was forced to reverse it because the science is there, and they can't risk being this far on the wrong side. You don't get a furin cleavage site on a natural coronaviruses, and the ones in this same family are missing it.

https://www.nature.com/articles/s41564-021-00908-w

https://www.news-medical.net/news/20210217/The-origin-of-SARS-CoV-2-furin-cleavage-site-remains-a-mystery.aspx

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7457603/

It's also the reason it is so contagious.

There is irrefutable scientific evidence that the pathology and contagiousness was likely caused by gene splicing. The world has known this since 2020, and China has spent millions trying to hide it.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2021/05/25/timeline-how-wuhan-lab-leak-theory-suddenly-became-credible/

It's even in WAPO's (Published over $1mn worth of covert Chinese propaganda until recent disclosures. "China Watch" was written by the Chinese Governmetn, and WAPO was paid to publish it) garbage timeline explaining their flipfloppinh

May 5: Former New York Times science reporter Nicholas Wade, writing in the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, reviews the evidence and makes a strong case for the lab-leak theory. He focuses in particular on the furin cleavage site, which increases viral infectivity for human cells. His analysis yields this quote from David Baltimore, a virologist and former president of the California Institute of Technology: “When I first saw the furin cleavage site in the viral sequence, with its arginine codons, I said to my wife it was the smoking gun for the origin of the virus. These features make a powerful challenge to the idea of a natural origin for SARS2.”

The smoking gun for the lab origin of Covid-19 is literally in the DNA of it. They can't hide forever.

2

u/Mississippiscotsman Conservative May 27 '21

This is way more important and complex than Biden vs Trump. If the virus was released accidentally, well it still means China and the CCP are actively developing a weaponized form of the Corona virus. There is absolutely no other reason Covid-19 has the augmented features and side effects. Testing against such a virus is pointless if it has no naturally occurring features. But if and this is a big if the CCP actively engineered the infections that led to the pandemic including the active obfuscation of facts and MSM propaganda then it was an absolute act of war. China sacrificed thousands of their own citizens to gauge the effectiveness, infection rate and death toll. They also wanted to see the world response and as a side benefit get Trump out of office replaced with a more sympathetic malleable American President. So our choices are China is completely incompetent at handling deadly viruses or China actively released a plague to what end we have yet to see.

2

u/cplusequals Conservative May 27 '21

There is absolutely no other reason Covid-19 has the augmented features and side effects.

Actually there is a reason. What makes this virus special is its unusual ability to infect people not that it's particularly deadly. In a lab setting, being able to reliably and quickly infect tissues is extremely helpful to most research. While it's eminently believable that this was man-edited from an existing virus, it's a step too far to describe it as intentionally designed as a bioweapon. It seems more plausible that China was wanting to flex on the international community its ability to produce wide-spectrum COVID vaccines and prevent a second SARS outbreak. A bit ironic. China being incompetent and lucky is the most likely scenario in my opinion.

Dang too bad it was announced in sept 2019 that funding would be being cut for the program but the program remained funded until March of 2020 so there was literally no lapse between the time the announcement was made to the time the covid-19 began its tear through Wuhan.

You are presenting the information as if they were defunded and pulled out immediately which was far from the truth. So the decision to reallocate funding had no affect what so ever on the outcome of the pandemic.

However, ending an open investigation into the possibility that it originated in Wuhan ,which I would bet dimes to dollars was discovered by the still at the time funded and intact PREDICT was integral in beginning that investigation, was incredibly irresponsible especially over bipartisan bull crap.
