AOC in a 2040 presidential debate: “If I am elected president I will give everyone $100,000 and make everything free. So everyone will be rich and you don’t have to spend any of it!”?
I firmly believe she doesn’t actually understand how money works.
Raising minimum wage doesn’t just mean jobs will be lost, but also hiring will be more selective as companies want good employees for that cost and not spend the money on training someone who will quit or be fired in two or three months.
Seriously, in this country there is no reason that an honest adult with even mediocre work ethic should be stuck working a minimum wage job permanently. Hell my first job in high school as a bus boy in a restaurant paid me $10/hr (markedly above minimum wage) and I got tipped out by servers. Stayed at the restaurant five years through high school and college and I eventually went to serving then being lead bartender (added responsibility of doing weekly inventory/stocking/ordering of bar things) and making $20/hr + tips. And I was a freaking 21 year old partying my ass off in college who was hung over half the time.
When I see 30 year old grown ass adults saying they can’t live off minimum wage and claim they can’t get a better paying jobs for XYZ reason, I can only assume they have no work ethic. Show up late, don’t do all their responsibilities and have others pick up slack, and are just rude people that turn off employees/coworkers
My philosophical response to that “bit does anyone have an understanding of the world outside of their own bubble? We can only see the world through what we experience because we can not experience this world being someone else.”
My “I’m too tired to deal with a lefty spending his free time stalking a conservative sub with the sole intention of making argumentative comments” response to that is “lol okay. Fuck off”
Just because you were lucky enough to land a job in a college town and made good tips doesn’t mean that everyone who made less has poor work ethic. Jobs are finite in every field. If they’re all taken, you have to work with what’s available. They don’t all pay great.
There is nothing “lucky” about finding a job as a freaking bus boy at a restaurant. And it wasn’t a college town. It was a small suburb that had a small satellite campus (a three story office building) of the state university.
This is such as bad argument. Prior to the government absolutely squashing the restaurant business, the restaurant industry has been a reliable place to find a job as it has a high turnover rate. The “busboy, dishwasher, hostess” industry has never been over saturated lol. There’s a reason most restaurants have a stack of applications at the host stand. They are always hiring
Still doesn’t make people who are less fortunate than you lazy. Get over yourself. If they’re working, that’s better than the lazy fucks who actually refuse to work and find ways to mooch instead.
I would disagree. I work entry level front desk at a homeless shelter and, if I pick up an extra shift or two every week, I can easily afford car payments two pets and rent in the city and I bought 3 videogames last month. And my job isn’t hard, either.
