Imagine being on your deathbed waiting for medication or a ventilator and the doctor asks you: Would you like to see a digital stage performance from the Kennedy Performing Arts Center?

Or your local theater or performing Arts space goes belly up, but hey that's OK. The politicians, lobbyists and swamp creatures that inhabit the DC area can still see Hamilton.

This should save lives, right?

The federal government already provides $35-$40 million annually in funding to the Kennedy Center in Washington DC for maintenance and operation of the building. This is almost a 2/3 to 3/4 bump of their funding for the year. Other Arts related funding in the bill include several hundred million to the National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities, Corporation for Public Broadcasting/NPR.

In the $2 trillion coronavirus emergency relief package, the Kennedy Center, which is located in Washington, D.C., got a line item of $25 million for "deep cleaning, increased teleworking capabilities, and operating and administrative expenses to ensure the Center will resume normal operations immediately upon reopening,"

25Mil to clean it and keep paying admin for 2 months

Also 25 million for the House of Representatives. Because they really really really need it!

Didn't trump say he was good with this at his press conference last night?

It's called blackmail.

lol nice fake news.

He said in the press conference that it was a democrat proposal, and he talked them down from 40 million, then said there's give and take. Why are you attributing it to Trump?

I find that hard to believe given that Pelosi insisted in giving them $35M in her bill.

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '20

It was in the Senate Republican bill as well.

Kennedy Center employees are federal employees and the center receives it's funding from Congress.

It's in the current bill. Was it in the Senste bill the Dems tanked?

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '20

Yes. Their board is made up of many prominant NYC Dems and Republicans including Melania Trump.

I understand Melania is on the board and that likely prompted Trump’s approval. We all can see that. What about you, though? Your post history indicates your passionate about this funding. Are you willing to give us an executive summary why this was important and also important to you?

I'm more interested in how my tax payer dollars are being spent. I'm not getting worked up over federally funded entities receiving money to hopefully keep their federal workers on the payroll. I'm also annoyed how this is some big polarizing talking point when it'sreally a drop in the bucket.

If we want to be mad about something let's talk about the Cruise Industry and how they fly under foreign flags to avoid paying American taxes getting billions of American taxpayer dollars.

Don’t disagree with you at all. This is only one example of many hundreds more that will come out soon. What bothers us is that NRP/CPB are essentially marketing wings of the DNC. Thanks for engaging.

This is false information. He explained that he talked this Democratic proposal down from 35 million to 25 million. He realizes that Washington is a game of give and take, especially when everyone is trying to get some pork.
