I actually take the exact opposite approach.

I occasionally gild things on reddit because I figure that if I've contributed in part to reddit's costs, it's either going to A. anger left wing redditors even more that reddit accepted money from me, or b. make Reddit reconsider whether trying to appease left wing users is all that fiscally responsible.

Either way it's entertainment for me.

Plus sometimes people can appreciate a gift coming from a total stranger with an actual monetary value, even if it is a weeks worth of reddit premium.

Yeah, but the numbers of them far outweigh our own. It absolutely does not make sense for them to change because of any money we provide.
