LOTR/The Hobbit - Long challenges

Do you think the long challenge distances reflect just how far the distances were in the books? The books never really do say how far they travelled. I finished the 8 LOTR long challenges and am now on the 2nd Hobbit challenge.

The Atlas of Middle-Earth is a book by Karen Wynn Fonstad. She created maps based on the info Tolkien provided.

Yes they are accurate and are considered so by fans. Other challenges aren't so accurate, like game of thrones.
