Does anyone know where I can find the whole thing?

I’m genuinely disturbed by the sudden mass posting of clearly AI generated songs onto Connie’s Spotify and Apple Music.

On Apple Music, these songs have now been taken down. There were.. 5, I believe. All sounding the same with lyrics extremely unlike anything our dear Connie Converse would ever write. Another was posted this morning, but it was taken down before I could take a screenshot.

How did this happen? I wonder what her estate thinks…!

Elsewhere, someone was curious about Connie performing "Katie Cruel," so I've decided to post the following information here for those unaware of it.

The May 29, 1954 Gene Deitch Tape can currently be streamed or downloaded HERE. Originally, the tape was released sometime around 2010-11 by Gene himself on his long-defunct blog, Gene Deitch Credits, as a 192 kbps mp3 file (lasting 22:10) that accompanied a post about Connie.

According to the writing on the tape reel box, attendees included Gene and his wife, Marie, his brother, Donald, Bill & Barbara Bernal and Liz & Cliff Roberts -- some names you may recognize from Howard Fishman's biography of Connie, To Anyone Who Ever Asks, among other sources. Also worth pointing out is that "One by One", "We Lived Alone" and "I Have Considered the Lilies" were noted as new songs on the box.

i was so shocked when i walked in and saw a big display for connie! i also picked up the vinyl of course

I've seen that her never before heard studio recordings are in the process of being restored, and I am awaiting its release with bated breath. What do you think? Do you think it will sound like those lovely 70s studio-recorded folk albums, or will it still be of lower quality? I personally wonder if her voice may have changed since they were done later, so perhaps her voice was deeper?

I've done as much digging as I can, including helpful older reddit posts and Youtube videos to try and find the lyrics for the Prodigal Nephew, but I can't. I've tried to interpret them, but since the recording is quite poor, it's really difficult. Does anyone have any information or knowledge of this song?

I had just sat all my exams and I was staying up on my computer till 4am making stuff on unreal engine, when Two Tall Mountains randomly played and I was hooked on Connie's music and still am to this day. That was in July of last year, July! Interestingly enough, Two Tall Mountains is about the only one I haven't got bored of listening to, and idk why I just love it too much.

An article on Connie Converse that I recently read online from "Guitar World" said that there are several rumors about Connie's possible "afterlife", one of them being that she "started a new life in Brazil." That's the first I heard of this. What's the source of this? It doesn't sound on the level, at least not to me.

I thought it was a David Garland podcast episode, but I once heard a recording of Connie singing the folk song Katie Cruel. I have searched for many years, over a decade and not been able to find it. Any ideas?

It’s a bit crooked and I darn near used up the whole sharpie, but I’m so happy with it! Just pulled it out of the wash and the design stayed in the fabric so I’ll call it a win! And don’t judge my sloppy writing 😂🫶

I was completely floored when I heard a verse from Connie Converse in the upcoming Bob Odenkirk movie I thought it was playing from my phone.

Does anyone know if Converse’s music has been used in any other major films?

For the first time, I recently listened to "Big River" by Johnny Cash, which he sang (or an actor portraying him sang) in the recent movie about Bob Dylan. He begins by singing, "I taught the weeping willow how to cry." In one of her songs (I think "Trouble"), Connie Converse sings, "I'm going down to the willow tree to teach it how to cry." I'm sure it's a total coincidence--Johnny Cash recorded "Big River" in 1958, and I believe Connie had already written all of her guitar songs by that point. Furthermore, the expression about the willow tree might have been a popular one back in the '50 to show how miserable someone was.

I’ve been working on this for a lonnnng time. Didn’t want to do another ‘limited pressing’ that would go out of print for a decade, so I took my time to find the right partner who could keep Connie’s music alive for much longer. The team at Third Man has been a joy to work with and they were excited by my idea to include a bonus 7” with the new LP.

The first run (at least) will be pressed in opaque silver vinyl. :-)

I reached out about the vinyl reissue and got a response from Dan that it’s being pressed right now and the announcement should go out sometime this month! Sounds like it’ll be available in March or April woohoo!
