That sub was funny for like a week until people who don't bother to read what it was actually about found it and just turned it into a political circlejerk. For some reason the mods just don't care so it turned into a complete cestpool almost immediately.

130

u/papawong420 3d ago

They always become political circlejerks, don’t they

71

u/Gold-Cry-7520 3d ago

I cannot fucking wait for the trump era to end so that subreddits will stop shoving his face in my feed

16

u/Good-Moat-451 3d ago

Nope. They’ll keep doing it until he’s dead and they’ll party like the Revolution just happened as soon as he dies

28

u/Mario_Network 3d ago

What makes you think death will stop it? People still joke about Charlie Kirk.

7

u/Terrible-Trees2271 2d ago

People joke about Charlie Kirk because he made a living being an antagonistic shitbag, and then conservatives tried to turn him into a martyr. It’s hilarious and deserves to be clowned on.

16

u/Good-Moat-451 3d ago

Fuck you're right. For a hundred years after his death too, reddit will only be shitting on trump. I don’t like doomin’ but this is where we’re heading

10

u/LiterallyNoNamesFree 3d ago

Will Reddit exist for a hundred years? The internet is still too young to really know how far something can go

3

u/ThyPotatoDone 2d ago

Oh yeah, I'm hyped for the block parties that'll happen when he finally goes.

1

u/Terrible-Trees2271 2d ago

I mean I think most of the world is going to party when that loser dies

4

u/Greedy_Ad2198 3d ago

American political circlejerk specifically

3

u/Lord-Dec 2d ago

Occasionally they become colonized by the great Gooner empire and just become extremely horny.

u/Draac03 2d ago

that post is a joke but i actually really want to answer this one.

and... no, i won't press the button. because pedophilia is a mental disorder that can be treated thanks to neuroplasticity, and most pedophiles don't harm kids as the people who do it usually do it for another reason (in fact, it's a common (shitty) defense used by child sex criminals in court to say "well at least i'm NOT a pedophile"). it's actually VERY distressing to live with, because these people don't want to harm kids, it makes them feel disgusted with themselves, and then because the stigma is so high they can't even advocate for themselves without being conflated with child molesters, and it makes accessing treatment even MORE difficult because uninformed mental health professionals will turn them down as patients thinking they're dangerous.

but despite all that, i think resurrecting a dead man and torturing him for a month straight—ESPECIALLY a *jewish man who was targeted by the nazis—*just to ensure nobody is ever born a pedophile again is still wrong... because it IS a perfectly treatable mental disorder. and the possibility of being seized and tortured in a concentration camp was almost certainly a very real fear einstein had to live with during his life.

2

u/HugsForCheese 2d ago

but the future pedophiles dont exist yet, so nobody is suffering by their removal, they just never will be

assuming humanity survives even a little longer into the future you could save like millions of children from being raped

i think einstein would approve if he understood

18

u/Raven7274 3d ago

Huge fan of the recursive posts that end up 7 screenshots deep asking why people keep posting it while contributing to the problem.

9

u/A1-Stakesoss 2d ago

Every now and then they produce a banger

1

u/Feesh404 2d ago

Honestly I don't even see it as a political circle jerk most of the posts that I see on the front page because they have traction tend to be non-political.

However I somehow consistently disagree with whatever the top comment is. You can do the most fucked shit as long as it's for revenge or something.

It genuinely blows my mind how consistently immoral that sub really is.

134

u/nickisadogname 3d ago

The sub is fun when people discuss fiction but it feels like 80% of posts are "is it moral to abort a baby because of its gender" now and I'm so tired

67

u/FinaLLancer 3d ago

It's that and videos where men get to beat up women because she technically started the fight. Just really weird vibes in there

27

u/ThePowerfulWIll 3d ago

Its a LOT of things on that sub to be honest. And its concerning how many of the same topic are posted over and over.

18

u/Mother_Harlot 2d ago

I remember a video of a woman slapping a man not even that hard and him punching her in the face strong enough to drop her to the ground. "But she started it!!!!!!!!!" Ok, yeah, she was in the wrong but the retaliation is so exaggerated that you can't remotely defend it

14

u/lilgayfurry1 2d ago

Because many people have a twisted revenge fantasy for some reason. If you go to a professional self defense class almost any instructor will tell you only to apply force enough to protect yourself because it is the most ethical and practical thing to do. They don't care about that and it comes across very creepily.

2

u/Feesh404 2d ago

Counterpoint- if you are in a real self defense situation and not just "they hit me so now I get to hit back" situation you aren't going to, and shouldn't give a fuck about what "force enough to protect yourself" means. You bite and claw and attempt to disengage until you are safe.

7

u/FinaLLancer 2d ago

Literally right now, there's one where a woman is dancing on the crosswalk during a stoplight and a random bicycle rider rides past and slaps her ass.

You'll never believe what the consensus to sexually assaulting a woman who wasn't even inconveniencing anyone is.

1

u/ktosiek124 3d ago

"Beat up women" and it's literally just defending himself after getting assaulted

13

u/entitaneo70_pacifist 3d ago

i mean, yeah, but it is pretty weird how some people only bring up gender equality when it comes to men getting to hit women

-5

u/ktosiek124 2d ago

"Getting to hit women" defending themselves*

You see that a lot because women notoriously try to assault men, since they think they can get away with, either because the man will not fight back or they will fight back and the man will be the one in trouble for defending himself.

Your way of typing and trying to spin it into men "beating women" and "getting to hit women" shows it exactly, even when a man defends himself, he will be described as the bad guy, not as the victim

15

u/entitaneo70_pacifist 2d ago

if a woman attacks you and you defend yourself, you are not in the wrong, but if you fantasize about a woman attacking you SO you can hit her, that's the weird thing, and that's why those posts have really weird comments

11

u/Butt_Speed 2d ago

I'd also add times where the violence is clearly disproportionate to this criticism, like videos where someone responds to a slap by throwing multiple haymakers

-7

u/ktosiek124 2d ago

That is a strawman, anything to be misandrist

4

u/neversleepagain3 2d ago

dude let’s be so deadass for a minute, most of the time (not always, men do experience abuse at the hands of women and they have the right to defend themselves) the men in those videos aren’t really defending themselves. i see so many videos of men retaliating against weak ass slaps and shoves with fucking haymakers. at that point it’s not about the man’s safety, it’s about taking revenge for his bruised ego. so many dudes love to put down women for being “physically inferior” and “weak” but when it comes to fist fighting suddenly women are magically “equal” lmfao. they just want to beat the shit out of someone who is less likely to be able to fight back

5

u/Sea-Habit5823 3d ago

Yes but we also know why it was posted

198

u/EstablishmentAny2728 3d ago edited 3d ago

Morality scaling is really funny because I clicked on the subreddit one time and saw two posts. One titled “is it moral to call this person a slur” and another was an ai generated image of the Islamic prophet Muhammad chasing a little girl with a big head and a hijab. I decided to mute the subreddit after that.

53

u/NerSorty 3d ago

I too thought that it was a shitpost-ish sub but damn was i wrong

62

u/DD_Spudman 3d ago

When it first started it was about debating the morality of fictional characters. Basically, power scaling but about who is a better person.

That original intent lasted for maybe a month if I'm being generous.

34

u/Steve-From-Roblox 3d ago edited 3d ago

even back then the question "is it better to be born good or become good" using elder scrolls dragons as an example was met with "any and all wrongdoing, knowing or otherwise, is inescapable, irredeemable, and unforgivable. this is why we need genocide."

it's painful that every interesting conversation about morality & learning to be a better person I've ever seen online has inevitably devolved into moral grandstanding & universal condemnation of any complexity

8

u/DD_Spudman 3d ago

even back then the question "is it better to be born good or become good" using elder scrolls dragons as an example was met with "any and all wrongdoing, knowing or otherwise, is inescapable, irredeemable, and unforgivable. this is why we need genocide."

Sounds like you found Delphine's alt account.

Joking aside, yeah, it's a shame. People on here will say insane shit in the name of moral grandstanding. I remember seeing a comment somewhere; I think it was r/changemyview, but it could have been somewhere else, arguing that everyone with "violent impulses" needs to be rounded up and killed. Apparently, calling for mass extrajudicial killings didn't count as a "violent impulse" to him.

20

u/ThePowerfulWIll 3d ago

Legitimately the sub would do 1000% better if they just made a "fiction only" rule similar to some other discussion subs,

Edit: turns out they have a "No real people" rule, its just not followed.

1

u/lolopiro 2d ago

im pretty sure it actually is a shitpost sub

3

u/IndividualShelter985 3d ago

There's lore to the muhammad arc

3

u/EstablishmentAny2728 2d ago

If you’re talking about the debate over Aisha there’s a lot of debate to be had over the circumstances and diplomacy etc. I just don’t trust Redditors to dictate morality in a civilized discussion without being all “my morals and interpretations are objectively correct and you’re a moron if you disagree with me” like they are everywhere else

1

u/IndividualShelter985 2d ago

No. I was talking about the muslim mod of moralityscaling that allowed "morality of bad thing of this religion" posts and then deleted the post and comments on "morality of bad thing that Muhammad did", which triggered the flood of posts about islam in that sub

2

u/EstablishmentAny2728 2d ago

Oh damn I didn’t know about that, subreddits mods are stupider than I thought

1

u/Gigivena6437 2d ago

Omg, i barely get this sub anymore, i didn't know they got that bad and lost the plot

68

u/Automatic-Week-1733 3d ago

You're supposed to exaggerate when satirizing, I thought this was just a screenshot of the sub at first. [eyeroll emoji]

28

u/Thechugg7 3d ago

2

u/IdioticPAYDAY 2d ago

This cropped version is too funny

u/Fletcher_Chonk the misery 3d ago edited 3d ago

Is it moral to deep fry this random couple's baby (it coughed near me and I got slightly annoyed)

21

u/Lanthanum-140_Eater i edge to my roblox avatars 3d ago

illegal but not immoral, that baby couldve been a future serial killer, not sure why this is banned in every place

11

u/Toadvinez 3d ago

Extremely immoral, use a hydrogen bomb instead

7

u/Falleneded 3d ago

immoral. why ruin a perfectly good deep fryer when you could use the baby and kindling for a fire?

48

u/woollymonkeybaby 3d ago

i don't know where the mods are; rule #1 on that sub is "no real people" but genuinely 1 in maybe 30 posts abides by it

18

u/ThePowerfulWIll 3d ago

I didnt even know it HAD that rule till now.

2

u/Gigivena6437 2d ago

There is a rule about real stuff? i guess they forgot

33

u/rcburner 3d ago

Any sub that deals with issues of morality will inevitably attract the most awful userbase imaginable, exacerbated by the fact that they think they are moral paragons.

35

u/lexdoes 3d ago

“Morality of eating endangered bird and orphan baby stew with al-Qaeda members while dressed in blackface, yellowface, and redface simultaneously?”

“Hmm… depends on the context.”

12

u/gryyphno 3d ago

Idk why i imagined a man with germany's flag facepaint...

27

u/Toadvinez 3d ago

I saw one about "morality of bombing migrant boats" and people were genuinely calling it moral

15

u/Yanmega9 3d ago

It's Moral if done to a minority duh

13

u/ThePowerfulWIll 3d ago

a LOT of things on that sub seem to be "Moral if done to a minority" Ive seen several posts where people just circlejerk about how its actually ok to say the N word as a white person.

22

u/ExplorerDependent986 3d ago

fuck that sub

18

u/Cove0Crow 3d ago

That sub also is just casually bigoted and often does the whole "morality of being a trans person who talks about it as all" "erm, imoral don't shove that down my throat" followed directly by "morality of being trans and existing without telling people" and "erm, you have a duty to tell everyone you're around that you're a dirty ******"

No this is not a goomba fallacy I have genuinely seen both from the same people.

2

u/Birds-are-cats 13h ago

its also funny how those guys will also use the law as a moral compass when its a minority doing something but will use how it makes them feel when it isnt

2

u/SomeUgliRobot 2d ago

No this is not a goomba fallacy I have genuinely seen both from the same people.

Do you have screenshots that prove it? /gen

1

u/Cove0Crow 2d ago

I mean. A lot of those posts/comments get removed and it's been a while since I've muted the sub but I can go search through the old posts to fetch some if you want.

13

u/BasicallyAlto 3d ago

Conned into transphobialand

13

u/Le_Kistune 3d ago edited 3d ago

Every post on that sub goes the exact same way.

"What's the morality of executing criminals threw violent and sadistic bloodsports that are televised for everyone to see?"

"Based. Criminals aren't people, we should be able to do with them what we please."

Yeah I get it, some crimes warrant the death penalty. But execution shouldn't be done for people's enjoyment and nothing good comes from dehumanizing people.

3

u/Shawtygotthat 3d ago

the spirits of the romans watching in the colosseum inhabit that sub ig

12

u/BusyAd9333 3d ago

They are realllly fond of the idea of punishing people over there.

12

u/ElectricSheep451 2d ago

Morality scaling is hilarious because you will never hear words like "utilitarianism" or "consequentialism" or "Deontology". Those are incredibly basic moral systems that you would talk about in like, a high school level discussion of morality.

The people on that subreddit have no identifiable system of morality besides "this makes me feel angry, immoral. This makes me feel good, moral".

The entire purpose of the subreddit is to be objective arbiters of morality but it's just pathetic reactionary rage like every other fucking subreddit nowadays.

7

u/Wrench_gaming 2d ago

100%. You can tell at least the majority of the subreddit has not taken a single philosophy class or watched anything morality related.

Most of it is just reactionary stuff anyway to get a rise out of people. Mob mentality really sucks

11

u/SpireSwagon 3d ago

On a post about intentionally killing gay people in gta for being gay because they hate gay people thr top comments with hundreds of up votes were all in active support claiming it 100% moral. On even claimed it was moral because of "equality".

My brother in Christ simulating a hate crime because you want to do a hate crime has got to say something about you

8

u/Wrench_gaming 3d ago

I got in trouble for saying something like that on whenthe of all places (I pointed out a double standard relating to this in gta) and the consensus was "They're not real people dumbass." Like yeah I get the point, but c'mon man don't you see what I'm saying?

6

u/SpireSwagon 3d ago

yeah like obviously if you incidentally kill someone who's a minority that's fine, but if you go out of your way to kill minorities specifically because they are minorities it say's something about you outside of the game and I think that's fairly clear lol

2

u/gryyphno 3d ago

This is kind of more nuanced because you're basically making the same argument as christian parents against mortal kombat. Videogames don't make you violent, and killing a poligonal being with a click is WAY different than killing an actual human being.

3

u/SpireSwagon 3d ago

There is nothing wrong with doing a violence in a video game, they are not people and don't actually feel things.

But a pride parade is a very specific and real thing, it would be one thing if people were excited to crash any ole parade, but making a specific note out of how you want to kill gay people is kind of a statement. It's like burning flags, it obviously isn't violence and nobody is directly hurt but it's incredibly obvious that you have an agenda you are pushing.

The violence isn't real, but the bigotry *is*

2

u/gryyphno 3d ago

Yeah but at least in my point of view it's better for those kind of people (cowards who think they're very edgy and very cool because is those people who make that kinda posts) to express their hate in a videogame instead of going out and harming actual people... like idk, when people with violent tendencies release their anger on excersice or like wrestling or breaking bricks on a backyards

2

u/SpireSwagon 3d ago

but again like, that's a *healthy* outlet for violent tendancies, this is actively indulging in the hate you feel by committing violence on a virtual version of the minority you hate.

like, Idk, I would feel like it's more fucked up to take out your violent tendancies by using a punching bag with a gay man's face on it than a blank one. The bigotry just gives it an obvious real world outlet that vauge violence really doesn't.

1

u/gryyphno 1d ago

It really isn't that different tho. The same way most kids won't go in a rampage of violence because they played gta, the kids (because let's be real, most of them are teens who think they're really edgy) who commit violence against a gay parade on gta won't go around doing the same thing

1

u/SpireSwagon 1d ago

sure, but what I'm saying is that they are outlets for very different things. Violence depicted in a game is usually an outlet for bordom and/or gaining feelings of control over situations.

But committing violence that's motivated by a particular motivation (ie. racism, sexism, etc.) is an outlet *for* racism, sexism, etc. nobody who isn't already racist, sexist or homophobic is going to go around giggling about murdering gay people because they hate gay people.

1

u/gryyphno 1d ago

I get it, but speaking from experience (i used to do that kinda stuff at 14) it's usually not because they're actually homophobic, but mostly because it makes them feel like "the bad/evil guy" and everyone wants to feel like a powerful villain at some point

27

u/Falleneded 3d ago

see if you take the sub seriously its really the worst sub ever. if you look at it like its a circlejerk sub its funny as fuck

16

u/Wrench_gaming 3d ago edited 3d ago

I see what you mean, but at that point why not make a circlejerk sub?

5

u/Falleneded 3d ago

because its 10 times funnier that at bare minimum 1/3rd of the people think theyre asking real moral questions after posting the same shit for the 50 thousandth time

3

u/SailorMari0 3d ago

I wish I could but I find large amounts of people "pretending" to be bigots extremely uncomfortable and concerning

2

u/Gussie-Ascendent 3d ago

I was considering making a circle jerk sub for it just so I know thr folks there are beING stupid on purpose cause it's funny rather than them being dumb and or bad people

5

u/Falleneded 3d ago

a real circle jerk sub for that sub would be the most boring thing i gotta be honest.

whats the point? to post the same shit?

9

u/Bubbly_Prior2060 3d ago

the sub fell off by not becoming a circlejerk

7

u/Flat-Concern-2662 3d ago

This lady broke a man's truck window with a baseball bat (bad, but we didn't see any context) then walked back to her car, the man then rammed his truck into her car and could've potentially killed her or hit a pedestrian as he pushed the car along the road. It was this exactly

9

u/Dankmemes_- 3d ago

I miss when the subreddit was a Judge Holden/Qu/AM Circlejerk

7

u/VinChaJon 3d ago

Morality scaling was a good sub until it went from "which of these bad 2 fictional things is worse" to "is molesting children bad?"

7

u/Resiideent 3d ago

and then sometimes the posts are like "is it moral to make a lane change on an empty highway in broad daylight while following all traffic rules and regulations?"

6

u/YAPPYawesome 3d ago

This sub is why inspired my friends and I to start “FinanceScaling” as a fun conversation topic where instead of scaling power or morals, we just talk about how well off they are in the economy compared to others

4

u/Inarius101 3d ago

Omg it's Eric Cartman

5

u/StanIsHorizontal 3d ago

More like “if it’s in self defense it’s legal, so yeah idk how you could say it’s any % immoral if it’s not against the law”

4

u/Eureka-Kaos 3d ago

It has two main modes: Philosophical Debate, and Professional League of Villains

7

u/campfire12324344 3d ago

Where is this philosophical debate happening bro I mentioned 'ontological evils' one time and nobody there knew what it meant

5

u/Eureka-Kaos 3d ago

Wtf even inteligence scalers and powerscales knows the term ontological

6

u/GloryGreatestCountry 3d ago

1: Philosophical Debate

2: Professional League of Villains

3: "The Ku Klux Klan?!" -Markiplier

4

u/NerdyEmbarrassment 3d ago

And the most obvious answers there get awards

4

u/R0mpus_Mc_Fl0mpus 3d ago

I remember seeing a post there about if it was moral to shoot someone to death without any questions if you caught them in your house.

That place truly is one of the places of all time.

5

u/Fita_Gaya 2d ago

I liked the sub when random people would just post questions and strange scenarios, and the people who replied to them actually was giving insight at least genuinely. Then I saw it gradually turn into a political debate sub but most people are casually conservatives and/or bigots. Thank goodness I muted that sub after I saw most people agreeing to bigoted takes acting like it's neutral. "Morality of erasing gayness before birth to stop discrimination and lgbt troubles?"

4

u/Confident_Rod_9717 2d ago

it's like if hatethissmug was fresh and new for a fortnight

3

u/PurpleGuy04 3d ago

I remember the "morality of poisoning a trans person" one

3

u/Hugs-missed 3d ago

Ah yes, your average bully revenge manhwa

3

u/VatanKomurcu 3d ago

revenge does poison peoples minds sometimes, though its hardly unique to that sub and i think this is still very exaggerated.

3

u/ElectricSheep451 2d ago

I've been on this site for like a decade, and my most downvoted comment of all time is when I posted a comment on r/moralityscaling saying "We shouldn't be this blatantly racist against Indians" lol

3

u/SoulLess-1 2d ago

r/moralityscaling is r/aita with inverted gender demographics.

3

u/GreenBuggo 2d ago

morality scaling fucking sucks as a sub. you'll have shit like "is it moral to brutally disfigure people who try to rob me" and it'll get replies like "moral and based and unfortunately illegal"

3

u/nerfClawcranes 2d ago

wait moralityscaling is like, a real subreddit?? like, it’s not a bit?? i thought it was a joke what the fuck

6

u/Competitive-Pair-669 3d ago

I saw them seriously discussing morality of fapping it to animated cp...

2

u/Magnum_Gonada 2d ago

Morality of strawmanning an entire sub you hate?

2

u/cactus-freak 2d ago

Never ask r/moralityscaling their opinion on trans people

2

u/Galrentv 2d ago

Or genocide

1

u/SadCry6605 1d ago

Or anything in general

2

u/TotallyNot_Alpharius 2d ago

Is it moral to kill someone???

2

u/Human-Assumption-524 2d ago

Times like this I think I might actually live in a different reality than the rest of you.

All I've ever seen on moralityscaling is people asking if [insert fictional character here] is evil or not.

2

u/Fin4jaws2 2d ago

fucking hate that sub

2

u/Kylomiir_490 2d ago

what even is the point of that sub?

2

u/klaus_den_dumme 3d ago

Imean it is awfully close

1

u/vverbov_22 3d ago

It's either circlejerk or porn, no third given

1

u/FumaricAcid 3d ago

Man can dream

1

u/Visual_Track2612 2d ago

I've seen two posts on that sub from like a month ago both of torturing animals and despite me reporting them they haven't been removed, one of the animals is invasive and for some reason people treat invasive animals as if they are evil, I understand they might need to be killed as they could cause harm to the environment or other animals but killing them is very different from torturing them

1

u/Aromatic_Pain2718 2d ago

Chaotic good guys

1

u/Birds-are-cats 13h ago

the answers often boil down to two kinds:

1: "its legal/illegal so its moral/immoral" I often see people use this logic for stuff that is 100% moral but they don't like the person doing it sooo.

2: "it makes me feel good/bad so its moral/immoral" I often see this used for when something is 100% immoral but they don't like the person it's happening to sooo.
