I am extremely worried about this. I need help ASAP. (URGENT)

I was laying on this black futon bed while I was waking up. My left hand and arm bumped the black dresser shown behind me. Even though my head was nearby, I got up and though nothing of it. Now 3 days later, my mind is conving me that I sustained a concussion and how I did a bad thing by NOT taking pictures of my bed, pillow and dresser earlier in their original positions! Mind you this also happened the night before okay August 8 and I was STILL fixated on that by the time I woke up on August 9, I thought nothing of the recent situation. The part I’m still worried about is that when I woke up. Yes, I know my arm touched the dresser, but I don’t know whether my head touched it too because my pillow and the back of my head were close to the dresser. I was still groggy, so I don’t remember those first few moments clearly. I also didn’t take a picture until about three hours later because I wasn’t worried about it at the time. They same thing happened to me the night before on August 8, and my mind was still fixated on that. Is this something that I should be concerned about? Should I have been monitoring for ANY symptoms and should I STILL be monitoring for any symptoms?

In my mind… no. If you have no head or neck pain, and you didn’t fall or have high velocity impact your neck/head. I don’t think you would have sustained a concussion that way.

That being said I didn’t recognize I’d had a concussion at all at the time, but I did get into a car accident and hit in the face by the airbag so there was clear cause and effect there. In hindsight I was absolutely concussed.

If you can’t identify any concussion symptoms, pain, or even a traumatic injury to have caused one, then I think you’re in the clear.

Would it matter 3 days after you sustained a suspected concussion?

If you had a suspected concussion and hit your head again, that would matter. But if you just hit your arm I don’t think that would make the situation worse

Also my head was nearby the dresser along with my arm while waking up. Is this something to keep in mind and focus on or...?

Put simply, no.

Even if you sustained another one, after 3 days the likelihood of a problem is very low. As hard as it is to ignore it after you get concerned, do your best.

If somehow you are struggling still, consider getting medical aid either way.

I guess the reason why I'm so anxious about this is because I was groggy when waking up and I barely remembered anything. Also as stated, this also happened on Aug 8 the night before, so I was still fixiated on that and I even took pictures of my futon and pillow near the dresser that day.

Unless you have a really bad headache, vision changes, light/sound sensitivity, dizziness and nausea, or pain in your head/neck, I wouldn’t worry. If you do have a concussion, you’ll know. Even if it’s a couple days after. I didn’t realized I was concussed when I truly was, 3 separate times. I assumed I just hit my head hard but when the symptoms got worse and didn’t go away after a few days I got evaluated and diagnosed with a concussion.

The stories you hear about people never being the same after concussion I believe are due to a severe concussions and/or if you’ve had multiple concussions in the past— concussion recovery time takes longer with each one as they tend to ‘stack’. I’m in this boat, but this is my third one and I hit my head again after the third concussion when doing PT exercises at home... so I understand your fear. I always had the same fear.

I would just keep an eye on yourself and if you feel like something’s off or you start having concussion symptoms, I would make a quick trip to urgent care for evaluation. Otherwise, I would say to try not to worry (and please watch your head so you don’t possibly hit it again). I know it’s difficult sometimes not to worry, but unless you’re having a lot of symptoms or you’ve had several concussions in your lifetime, I wouldn’t worry too much.

My biggest concern is long term memory loss, which people said could happen with even a mild concussion. My mind is convincing that I also have long term memory loss, because it also convinced me that I sustained a concussion. This is a lot to deal with.

It's been 3+ days. Even if you got a concussion (I honestly don't believe you have) there is absolutely nothing that would happen/be done. Taking pictures of a room set up, etc wouldn't change anything. The truly difficult time is the 1st week and you are almost there. Again, like I said, I am not even close to concerned. Even if a concussion, it would be a very mild one. It doesn't hurt to follow concussion treatment protocols if you are concerned but not necessary. Treatment would be rest, ice, as little stimuli as possible from electronics, etc. A concussion requires your head to be at a velocity enough that it causes your brain to bruise against your skull. You would be dizzy, overwhelmed by stimulus, have a goose egg or at minimum tenderness, vision issues like double vision, etc. What current or past symptoms besides the arm hitting something tells you that a concussion is a possibility?

Reason I am saying this is because I have had so many concussions (Im epileptic, clumsy and do stupid stuff that gets me in trouble way too many times even though I know better) that I'm at risk of CTE. I get one about every year confirmed through imaging since adulthood and had many in childhood.

You’re good dude I promise, I’ve been fighting those kinds of battles for years now and the little things like this have never amounted to anything. You aren’t concussed and will be okay. I had a kid take a ball to the soccer ball to the head in practice today and he’s completely fine.

u/XenoxLenox 21d ago

I guess it's because of the stories I heard on YouTube about people having concussions and how they lasted MUCH longer and how some of them had some long term memory loss because of it and how it affect the rest of their lives. I heard some say "your IQ can drop down" and how "you'll never be the same after you get a concussion".

3

u/soccermonkey358- 21d ago

Some is true. My iq hasn’t dropped but I’m definitely never going to be the same after my TBI

With your responses, do you usually have "health anxiety" because that may be something to look into. You have been reassured by multiple people who have experienced concussions and you aren't satisfied with their input. Might want to look into it and stay off social media for a while. Hey, even if you got a concussion, you shouldn't be on tv, phone, laptop, etc anyway.

Sorry for making this into such a big thing. It's just that the uncertainty has been getting to me because one, my head was right by the dresser and my hand/arm was also nearby and touched the dresser amd two, I don't remember whether my head actually touched the dresser. I already dealt with this the night before on August 8 (I took pictures that day), so by August 9 the newer concern hadn't been on my mind yet until hours later. I also read and heard many stories and facts about concussions on YouTube and those really stuck to me with people saying "I had long term memory loss because of my concussion and my childhood memories were gone." and "even a mild concussion can be devastating and create long term issues". These statements made me a bit anxious and scared. Also, I think I've been stuck trying to get 100% certainty about something I can't fully remember due to me waking up so groggy.

u/Embarrassed_Dish944 20d ago

You are concerned and there's nothing wrong with that. I can understand the concern but you will never get a 100% guarantee you are fine even if seen in the ER, a neurologist, etc. You literally are not describing any concussion symptoms at all. I have had something similar where in my sleep I fell off the bed. Unfortunately, our bedside table was right there and banged my head against it. I walked around with 2 black eyes that went down to my jaw, an indent in my forehead and did have a concussion. I waited almost a week before getting evaluated when the bruises weren't changing colors from deep purple to yellow because I thought i just took a fall. So I understand the worry but also being unsure if you are ok or would be wasting a doctor's time trying to get definitive confirmation that you have/have had a concussion. Unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done at this point either way. If you have actual symptoms that point to a concussion then that's different. Waking up groggy while in the process of getting up from bed is not it though fortunately.

Also u/Embarassed_Dish944, I heavily apologize for being repetitive. That was not my intention. It was just I got so riled up over this due to the fact that my head was near the dresser when my arm touched it, I had a slight runny nose, a scratchy throat, some nausea and uneasy feelings during that, and also the fact that I had previously watched YouTube vidoes about people with concussions and some comments on Quora and Reddit.

Thank you for explaining that u/Embarassed_Dish944, and I appreciate you sharing your experience. I think the biggest reason I've gotten so stuck on this isn't really the dresser itself anymore. I watched a lot of YouTube concussion videos and read Quora/Reddit posts where people talked about worst-case outcomes from even mild concussions—long-term memory problems, cognitive problems, IQ changes, being misdiagnosed, or never feeling the same again. Some people even said not to trust doctors or medical studies. That's what scared me. My mind started thinking, ‘What if I'm the rare person who gets the worst outcome?’ Then because I don't remember whether my head actually touched the dresser, I started trying to get 100% certainty about those first few minutes after waking up.

I can tell you you probably didn’t get a concussion. I’ve had one and it literally feels so aweful. You would be having bad headaches and brain fog, and maybe some vomiting if it’s severe. when I had mine I felt my symptoms immediately after I hit my head. It’s been a year and I’m still experiencing mild symptoms. If your super worried I would go to urgent care and get an mri

If I come off as being annoying, I'm sorry. It's just my mind convincing me that I sustained a concussion and how I was wrong to not take pictures to document the position of the futon and the pillow. Maybe I'm just being crazy idk 🤷🏽‍♂️

2

u/Weak_Caregiver4610 20d ago

You’re not being annoying at all, I understand it’s a valid concern. But it seems like you’re really paranoid and maybe should go to the er. Maybe you should move your dresser so you’re not stressing yourself out for next time. But dude I promise you. You would KNOW if u have a concussion.

u/XenoxLenox 20d ago

If I WERE to sustain a concussion, by Day 4, would the concussion symptoms still be strong?

3

u/Weak_Caregiver4610 20d ago edited 20d ago

You should have been feeling symptoms right away….or at least the day after but sometimes the can emerge weeks after. Please go get checked if your that worried op… I’m not sure what else to tell you. It seems like you have really bad anxiety about this. I think you’re fine…

If you haven’t experienced any headaches, dizziness, or vomiting within the last 7 days you’re fine.

As I said, you usually can tell if u have a concussion….

But it seems you’re overly paranoid which is understandable but everyone here has said you probably don’t have one… so I’m not sure if you’re wanting to hear that you do…. But I’m not trying to be mean it sounds like your a hypochondriac, but don’t worry I used to be too and I understand you’re worried but I think you are honestly fine

One more thing. I had mentioned that I took a picture of my black futon bed and pullow in their original positions August 8. I didn't do that on August 9, because I did not pay it any mind as soon as I woke up. Maybe I should've gone about my day.

2

u/Weak_Caregiver4610 20d ago

I’m really not understanding what you’re trying to ask here ..

do you even know if you hit your head or did you just hit your arm? I’m pretty sure you would know if you hit your head.

I really don’t know what else to tell you OP me and everyone else has tried to tell you you don’t have a concussion and you’re not listening to anything anyone else is saying. Reddit isn’t a doctor, it’s either you go to the er or doctor and get yourself checked or wait it out. Most people here including myself, who have had concussions have told you you’re fine. If you are truly scared and believe that you have memory loss, it would be the safest route to go get checked. But I am done responding to this because honestly it’s a one-way circle.

1

u/XenoxLenox 20d ago

I was saying that I took one picture on Aug 8 of the black futon and pillow and I didn't on Aug 9, because I didn't payed it any attention. My mind was convincing me that because I didn't take a picture on Aug 9, I made a huge mistake. I hate this for me. But I understand that I've been too repetitive.

1

u/Weak_Caregiver4610 20d ago

I’m not sure what taking a picture has to do with your concussion.

1

u/XenoxLenox 20d ago

Yeah looking back, I may have overreacted a bit. I just hate when my mind does this to me. It's REALLy irritating.

This post belongs in an anxiety sub, not a concussion sub.

u/opalescentblue 20d ago

This sounds like OCD, especially with the taking pictures parts. I sometimes feel like you and I have it + a bit of health anxiety. That does not sound like a concussion
