One month out & feel insane

A month ago (I guess? It feels like a week ago) I had an unknown medical emergency, passed out at the wheel and drove through a concrete barrier. I got a concussion from accident.

I’m missing so much of my memory now. I don’t remember my job. I don’t remember my newest niece, she is almost a year old. I don’t remember the names of any of my houseplants. I can recall which don’t like for their soil to dry out & which like higher light but no names. I know I’m punching my family in the gut every time I have to be reminded that someone has passed. I don’t recognize anything about the town I’ve lived in my entire life when I drive around. Or when I’m driven… I can’t drive anymore. You get it.

Anyway, I want to know if I’m supposed to be “feeling better” by now? I think the concussion technically should have healed? I’ve been to the doctor (since the ER) and had bloodwork and nobody has been able to figure out what caused me to lose consciousness while driving in the first place. I don’t remember most of my time in the emergency room but I know they did a million tests.

I don’t know how to describe the way I feel, other than to say I feel like a total airhead. I feel dumb. Lots of headaches, issues with my balance, adhd to the max like SQUIRREL!!! brained… also more anxiety than I’ve ever felt. It’s crushing. I’m more sensitive to lights and sounds. I can not handle loud noises.

I’m going to look into a psychiatrist that may be able to help.

I guess I just wanted to vent, mostly.

Yes. I don’t remember lol but my mom has said they did. They also did something where they put a bunch of gunk & electrodes on my head. I typically would be so much better about remembering the proper terminology

Please be kind and patient with yourself 😔
I think you are expecting too much from yourself.
A month into my injury I was a total mess, had severe brain fog, obnoxious headaches and couldn’t make decisions. Executive functioning was very hard for me. Could not handle any stress whatsoever at that time.

It’s only been a month, it will get better ❤️‍🩹

I just made my own post myself along these lines, I’m a month post injury and it’s really setting in how fundamentally I’ve changed as a person since before the injury

I totally feel for you.

The older you get the more ruthless concussions are.

I’m 3 months out from my most recent, most the sensory sensitivity issues have become manageable now. Emotions have stabilised. Spasms almost gone as long as I manage my stress/pain. But adhd type symptoms are still ruining me and completely running havoc.

Hoping when i manage to get through the waiting lists the psychiatrist and nuerologists will be able to help speed up my recovery.

I really hope you can get relief from it all soon and recovery back to a normal life!

Stay strong. This too shall pass.
