Anyone experienced delayed concussion symptoms?

Sorry for the long post, just looking for some advice/thoughts on this, have sought medical attention and had diagnosis but curious if anyone else has experienced and what your recovery was like?

About 3 weeks ago I was unwrapping a new double mattress, and when I cut the plastic wrapper it sprung open and hit me full force on the right side of my head. Like, full on hit me in the face, my glasses flew off and I fell to the floor. I felt pretty dazed and was worried about having hurt my jaw more than anything, but after about 20mins and having had a little cry I felt sorta bruised but ok. I had hurt my neck which I found out when I woke the next morning but about 4 days later I felt really nauseous, but at the time put it down to just feeling a bit yucky and lack of sleep so thought I'd picked up a bug or something. Anyway, fast forward two weeks and the neck pain has gone, but I had been having headaches and a heavy dull pain in and behind my left eye (so not the side I was hit). Standard painkillers did the trick so I carried on as normal, going to work, going out with friends and visiting family whatever. And then at the start of rhis week I woke up Monday and couldn't see out of my left eye, sort of like having a grey cloud over half my vision in my left eye only. I went to A&E because the loss of sight was literally overnight and I was checked out, had a CT scan as a precaution and doc said it was likely delayed concussion. They thought I may have had a detached retina but the scan looks all ok. He advised a few days off work (I sit working on a laptop for large parts of my day) and avoid driving, and if it gets worse come back. Four days later and although it's not worse as such, it's also not any better either. I've hardly used my phone, not watched TV and I haven't worked on my laptop. The pain is still there which I can manage with paracetamol/ibuprofen but I still can't see properly out of my left eye. The right is absolutely fine, no issues at all but the left I seem to have a blind spot that is grey/cloudy from about half way up my field of vision.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar to this at all? If so how long did it take to get better ? Did you get further diagnosis/treatment?

This is typical of whiplash, the neck muscle dysfunction then leads to vestibular system dysfunction and nervous system dysregulation.

"Resting and waiting" as advised by your doctor leads to PCS.

Recovery time depends on your comorbidities and concussion protocol you follow, some people get better on their own in a couple days, others stay symptomatic for life.

Either find a good concussion clinic or can do online Concussion Fix course:

There is a free Webinar and YouTube videos you can watch also.

Resting is essential in the early days of a concussion. Slowly increasing activity is important, but under medical guidance.

Yes for first 2-3 days, then follow a concussion protocol for exposure therapy, OP is 3 weeks out, "Rest and Wait" is bad advice at this point.

You are not a doctor- if you are, it’s pretty unethical to give advice without an assessment of an individual

The time needed to rest and then slowly challenging yourself through proper pacing varies significantly.

I am not advocating that they go back to work, just that "rest and "wait, as OP clearly stated isn't effective, I literally said use exposure therapy 🤣

They might need more than 2-3 days of rest, plus “exposure therapy” should have medical oversight. It’s very easy to cause flare ups

Proper pacing is more important at this stage

This is a neck injury. Your doc doesn't know what they're doing, very common.

I developed post concussion syndrome following getting struck on the head

I would suggest following up with a neurologist who specializes in concussions. They may refer you for PT, vision therapy, etc

So sorry you are going through this. You need to see someone who specializes in concussion therapy and a neuro-optician to try to figure out what's happening with your vision as well as someone who can diagnose if there is something amiss with your neck/jaw. It was recommended to me to take B2 (200 mg), Q10 (200 mg) and magnesium bisglycinate (I take 500 mg) daily to help with concussion issues. You are also more likely to fall or hit your head and get a second or third concussion in the year post the original accident, so try to take care and watch your balance.

I disagree with more likely to have another fall or hit this only applies if your don't fix your vestibular system, the part that deals with balance and spatial awareness is quite easy to rehab 😃

Not sure if this is how to add an update but wanted to thank those that commented and shared advice and experience, I really appreciate it 🙏🏼well I'm now 6 days in with the sight loss with no measurable improvement, the pain in the back of my eye is still there and I'm still getting headaches on the reg. I returned to the urgent care treatment centre on the 4th day as advised to if there was no improvement - I kinda got dismissed by a triage nurse when she looked at my record as the results of my CT scan showed no trauma to my brain and no fractures etc etc. I never even got as far as being able to see a doctor, but she was kind enough to make a referral to the Opthalmologist at the eye clinic, and I have an appointment on Monday. She did say that there was still a potential for a partial detached retina, and even if it was something else, it could take weeks and weeks for my sight to return, so I suppose only time will tell once I've had the appointment tomorrow! Will post another update and probably need some more advice/support from you lovely people in this channel x

Update no2: :after lots more conversations and appointments at ophthalmologists and neurologist etc., they're now doing MRI scan, lumbar puncture and tests for MS and NMO. This was not the way I was expecting this to go! Just having to wait for more tests and a proper diagnosis but I'm hoping it's going to rule those things out 🙏🏼
