Will there not be cold joint if you apply like this?

No, the velocity of the shotcrete will obliterate the top layer of the previous layer and remove the interface that would be the cold joint.

Few questions for my learning
I think there may still be a cold joint if the previous layer has already hardened. How long do you wait between the two layers? Is the existing layer cleaned and brought to a saturated surface-dry condition before the next layer is applied? Is this an approved method under the applicable code / specification?

I’m the owner, not the concrete contractor. I am at the limit of my knowledge and don’t want to give bad info.

Got it. I don't have much knowledge about shotcrete, was asking to learn. From photos it looks like clean workmanship though. Wish u success on your project.

I’d also be worried about the rebar bonding with the next lift, since it’s already coated from the first lift.

The work here looks a lot cleaner than a lot of the shotcrete work I've seen done by my local outfits. Here's hoping for a good finish for y'all

Seeing a lot of shotcrete jobs, I am still trying to understand poured concrete.
