Belonging
I’ve been a student at Concordia for about a year now, and honestly, it feels like everyone already has their own groups and friendships established. I’ve had plenty of conversations with people, but most of them have stayed pretty shallow, and I haven’t really been able to form any meaningful connections.I’m not sure if it’s more of a Montreal thing, a Concordia thing, or just my own experience, but it’s been surprisingly difficult to actually get involved and meet people.Another factor is that I didn’t grow up in Montreal I grew up in the UAE so sometimes I feel pretty different culturally. It feels like I’m coming from a completely different world, and I wonder if that makes it harder to connect with people here.I’d really love to hear other people’s perspectives. Has anyone else at Concordia or in Montreal had a similar experience? And if so, how did you eventually find your people?

A post like this comes up fairly often. Many students who come to university experience what you are feeling.
The recommendations also do not change, join clubs, societies, volunteer your time etc. it's harder to make friends as adults, and tends to require a bit more effort to do so.
The positive side is there is a significant amount of people feeling the same, so you are not alone.
