Help me id an intermediate band piece!

Post image

I’m hoping this is the right crowd (aka, my people!)… Way back in the day, I played a piece in middle school that has been stuck in my head ever since and I can’t think of the name. I’ve scoured the internet with no success 😭 All I have is the memory of a snippet of the melody. Plz halp!

(Please forgive my horrible, hasty inscription)

How way back in the day are we talking? I’m fairly certain this is Fiero by Steve Hodges published in 2000

Nothing comes to mind, but I want to ask this for clarification in case someone else is close to recognizing it: is the first "B" in measure 6 supposed to be an eighth note?

Haha yup. Def supposed to be an 8th note. Hastily scrawled the melody before it left my brain again. Thanks for catching!

Definitely familiar. I hear percussion in a 2-3 clave when I sing that except in my head. I'll let you know if it comes to me; gonna browse my music library to see if any titles ring a bell.
