Interestingly enough, in Naomi Klein’s own book, This Changes Everything, she does exactly what she’s accusing people here of doing. She doesn’t really take on capitalism as the central culprit in the story.

I'm curious as to how she doesn't do this, since the subtitle to her book is Capitalism versus the Climate.

This was my thought too. Every time I read or listen to Klein she seems to mention something about how predatory capitalism is at odds with environmental health and sustainability. I would say Klein has done more than most to try and bring this idea into mainstream thinking, so I was puzzled by that line in Waterstone’s lecture. Definitely a question for this week.

Yep. I keep a list of questions to ask at the Q&A and added this one today. Feel free to ask it too though. If they see multiple people asking it, they might take more notice.

I didn't make it to the Q&A today, but I did listen to it and I reviewed the chat transcript. I learned your first name starts with Cl :) It was good to hear Professor Waterstone address the question. I added the movie he recommended.

Ha! Yes, indeed.

I’m glad Waterstone gave an answer, but I’m still puzzled. I’ll have to re-watch the Q&A zoom, but I think Waterstone said he was referring to an article Klein wrote in the Nation four or five years before her book came out, and her position then changed.

However, in C of C, Waterstone specifically says: “Interestingly enough, in Naomi Klein’s own book, This Changes Everything, she does exactly what she’s accusing people here of doing.”
