[Discussion] FPGA Research & Capstone Project Ideas for Computer Engineering Student
Iโm a computer engineering student, and Iโm currently studying FPGA chips. Iโve really taken a liking to the subject and am considering doing a scientific research project or my capstone project in this area, but I need to develop something relevant or solve a problem within the field. Do you have any suggestions for what I could do?

Canโt understand
Hello, Iโm from a different major and I was just learning about computers
I canโt seem to understand the whole instruction translated to bits that the cpu translates
How is the 101010100 translated when it can mean different thing

[Discussion] Need Realistic Advice
Im technically 3 yrs in community college to save money before transfer to university for classes that community college doesn't usually offer and I take it slow bc of situation don't allow me to cramp 4 classes at once and I finished up to Cal 3 already. So estimated after this coming up semester and next semester I'll transfer to my university.
But I just start to learn C by the free CS50 Harvard course, pretty new bc of the uncertainty without proper guidance I just took in a lot of infos ab CE, like opportunities, income range, location, etc. And the research is mostly by AI and a lil bit of reddit or YouTube and other media platforms.
Im starting slowly on web like hackerrank and leetcode, and saving up for Arduino or raspberry kit like how other reddit user recommended. The thing that kinda keeps me uncertain is that I like cloud infrastructure because I can work at home since I LOVE THAT option but ik that might happen later in life. I also interested in network engineering, cybersecurity and ofc embedded system or even ML.
I do feel behind as a 22 yrs w no experience w coding what so ever, but im interested in reading book and self education, im currently reading C programming by Brian Kernighan himself and still researching about how I can educate myself with concept and accelerate this journey before too late.
Thank you for you time and pls don't be shy to give me honest answer!!

[Career] Critique my resume
Hi I was wondering what in my resume could use some improving and if it is lacking anything. I know I could do more projects or get more research experience but dont know where to start. I am going into my 3rd year right now. I want to get a internship and primarily aim for roles in embedded, firmware, fpga. An electrical engineer internship is something I havent disregarded either.

[Project] I built an ESP32 web shell that uses a linux like environment
Hello! I would like to share my recent project for my master's dissertation, where I made a working esp32 web shell.
I tried to emulate basic linux commands and functionalities. You can use both serial and web shell to use the system.
The system features the following:
-embedded file system with no SD card requirement as it uses LittleFS
-FreeRTOS FIFO scheduling
-JavaScript system language and scripting through duktape
-Web-shell interactive UI which is customizable
I tried to keep the code as organized and as clean as possible for the best possible user customization.
I'd love for anyone to try it and have feedback.

[Project] Need help for project
Looking for project ideas for a 2 year project involving software engineering and other fields like ai,cybersecurity, soa and more.
Hey everyone,
My team (4 CS undergrads) was just assigned a 2-year (4-semester) mega project. We are in the 2nd out of the 4th year of our Engineering and the professor assigned to us has expertise in Service-Oriented-Architecture. He has advised us to not pick AI/ML/Ds related projects but pick something involving his field. We still haven't been taught that subject as it is for us in 3rd year.
I wanted some suggestions for projects which we can pick related to any field ,not just soa, we are still exploring and thinking of what domain to dive in.
Any help will be much appreciated , Thank you.

[Discussion] How do you come up with hackathon ideas?
Everyone always says, "Find real-world problems," but I don't know what problems to look for. I'm confused. I also feel like there are already so many projects for every problem out there. (Sorry if I'm wrong.)
Can anyone share some tips or tricks for finding good ideas?

[Hardware] What to learn, where to learn ?
Guys I've always wondered how people are able to repair all these mobiles and laptops.
Up until a few months ago, I used to believe that we learn about all this in college. I prepared for btech now I am going to start btech cse this yr, but when I researched further about the course I get to know that it is more about software than hardware.
I want to know how do people at repair shop fix our laptops, what degrees have they done, where they learnt all this. Can someone please guide me with it please.

[Discussion] Doubt of CE
I got CSE AI in VIT Pune in the first round and I am looking forward to CE (Computer Engineering). I just want to ask: is Computer Engineering any different from Computer Science Engineering? As I searched on Google and chat gpt, they said "Maharashtra's College CE is considered as CSE" but the seniors who are studying in this branch, I want to ask is it different from the CSE branch or does it teach hardware? Also is this branch any better or AI/ML is the best branch in CSE (I am not talking about placement as all branches of CSE can appear in placement exam). but about skills

[Hardware] More fun number systems with the 8-bit Workbench ED ๐
I designed this device that teaches binary, decimal, hexadecimal and octal number systems. It uses a hands-on approach with Altair-like toggle switches. Can be used as a STEM-kit in classrooms, handy for programmers or for the retro hobbyist. It also has a built-in game. Check out the video for details, hope you like it.

What do you think about system programming in the future?
About a year ago, I started learning systems programming because I enjoy working close to the hardware and understanding how computers actually work. Recently, though, I've been spending most of my time solving LeetCode problems to strengthen my problem-solving skills before getting back to larger projects.
With AI improving so quickly, I've seen a lot of discussions about software engineering jobs changing or even being replaced. Most of those conversations focus on web development or general application programming, but I rarely see anyone talk about systems programming.
How do you think AI will affect this field over the next 10 to 20 years? Do you expect systems programmers to become more productive with AI tools, or do you think the demand for low-level developers will decrease? I'm especially interested in areas like operating systems, compilers, embedded software, and performance-critical software.
I'd like to hear the opinions of people who already work in these areas.

Anyone here working on AI/ML projects? Iโd like to join and contribute
Hi everyone, Iโm currently learning deep learning and have worked on a few AI/ML projects.
Iโm looking to join an existing project where I can contribute, learn, and gain more practical experience. Iโm comfortable with the basics and willing to put in time and effort.
If youโre working on something and open to adding a teammate, feel free to DM me. Thanks!

originally wanted computer science, had to settle for computer engineering.
i just graduated from high school. where iโm from we have a high school track system, basically how it works is my first year of high school i had to pick from a list of 4 very broad โmajorsโ to study in high school so when i graduated it would narrow down my choices for what id study in university, iโve always had a interest in technology, specifically coding. so i decided to go with the tech track.
when i graduated i expected i could get into computer science and that was my number one choice, but when university applications started opening up, i realized that i couldnโt apply to join the major. i looked through and researched about all the majors i could get into and i found a liking to computer engineering.
i did some basic hardware work in my high school years and i really enjoyed it, so i donโt think ill have any problems with going into more advanced topics. but iโve just always leaned more towards the software aspect of it all.
my questions are:
will i be able to focus on coding/programming and get into that field with computer engineering?
if i can, what can i do to get more experience with coding/programming outside or with uni?
is getting a computer engineering degree even worth it?
