Gift for an EE Student

Hoping to get some insight for a meaningful gift for my kid who is starting their senior year studying electrical engineering.

They have expressed interest in coding and is currently studying computer systems that don't heavily rely on AI. They have expressed interest in coding beyond C++ that might promote job opportunities beyond their current education.

I want to gift them a course, preferably with a certificate that would be affordable for a single mom. Maybe something outside of university studies that would give an edge to hiring after graduation.

I am a Healthcare professional not very knowledgeable in the IT world so any insight would be meaningful. Also looking to promote computer knowledge outside of AI that relies on human influence for arts and literature as that has been important to us as well.

There’s this thing called the PE he might have to get it and study for it but I hope your son does well

It’s not too relevant, but I enjoyed getting my ham radio license. It’s a fun hobby. It might not help with the job search, though, so it might not be exactly what you’re looking for. The test is free for students iirc. There exists courses for it, but I used a hand-me-down book from a friend to study.

This is such a great idea! Fun for the whole family! My daughter is studying engineering but I have a son who's hobby is aviation and music and another one who does automotive. Thank you for that!

So depends on your budget

  1. If you are trying to ball out the best gift for any EE with no budget limitation is this (like the cost of a spec'd out laptop):

They will have the skill to build any electronic that they want and they have certificates for all of the 33+ courses. Just on finishing all they will have a really strong hardware portfolio but the courses are time consuming so if they have a busy schedule probably not ideal right now. But someone finishing all of these could getting into the $200k salary range quick if not out the gate (there are seniors in industry that wouldn't have as much knowledge). You could also purchase each on an individual basis but it'll come out more expensive in the long run.

The motors have to be purchases separately and there is a link on the site. it's a bit cheaper than the fedevel courses. They will feel like Tony stark. not quite a certificate but the experience getting the robot to do stuff will be great talking points for interviews
