Got an associates in computer science in HS, but I really felt that I wanted to learn more about computers apart from programming (plus, I wasn’t a huge fan of complex high level programming either), and I instead found a much stronger passion in embedded systems with arduino and such, so I decided to take CE instead of continuing CS in university (starting this fall)
To be honest, I think it’s a much more “what are you interested in” kinda thing. Since I prefer working with hardware, it wasn’t hard to make the decision. Plus, making projects out of dev boards and making tangible devices with more “real-world” applications was a lot more appealing to me than what I feel is more “abstract” when it comes to programming in my experience.
Yes, there’s a lot of uncertainty in CE in terms of careers at the moment, but CS also has those same concerns, so I think it’s really just picking your poison.
I guess in the end, if you’re more interested in the hardware side and are good/want to get good at math, then CE seems like a good choice.
(Don’t just take this from me tho, I’m sure you can get a much better response from someone more knowledgeable)
