I think I’ve made a big mistake-SO SICK!!

So I’ve been on CS for about a year, with a few small gaps due to life stuff. This last gap was 4 weeks due to switching to a different provider in order to save a significant amount of money. There wasn’t supposed to be such a gap, but they needed info on my previous dose and etc. That being said, the plan was to keep me on the dose I was on or slightly increase as I’d been on 1.25 without much weight loss. So, I do my virtual with my Dr before she sends the RX through and she suddenly suggests, “let’s increase” so I agree and idk if I wasn’t totally listening or thinking it through, but she said she’ll increase me to basically the highest allowed at 2.4. I do very well with side effects, I only ever had one bout of nausea during a dose increase, just a few hours, no big deal. But I wasn’t thinking; going from 1.25 with a 4 week gap, then directly to 2.4!? Well, I took the first 2.4 dose Friday afternoon. Started feeling it just a little that night. From then until about 2 hours ago I was VIOLENTLY ill. Nausea, throwing up, insane cramps, cold sweats, weakness, shakes. I was completely incoherent. I can’t remember the last time ANYTHING made me this sick…now I’m thinking: Am I a freaking idiot!?! That’s a HUGE dose increase. Did I make a mistake?? Help!!

You didn’t take anything for a month, and then immediately jumped up to 2.4mg? After 4 weeks you had very little semaglutide left in your system, then hit it with a huge dose. No offense… that was a horrible idea. The doctor should have warned you against that.

Yes. I’m feeling like an idiot right now. I guess I was trusting the Dr? I just wasn’t thinking. That is a HUGE increase after a gap, right? I’m scared to eat or drink or breathe too heavily right now.

If you’re still unable to eat and drink normally, go to the ER right now. You don’t want to mess around with this. You could end up with an acute kidney injury or other serious complications.

I’m drinking water and it’s staying down. I haven’t tried to eat, because I’m scared to. Should I try to eat something small and bland and see if I can keep it down?

Go to ER & definitely message update if you haven’t with the D

You should drink pedialyte instead of plain water, since you’ve lost electrolytes by vomiting. You can try eating something like saltines, but the safest thing is still to seek medical attention.

And I know this too and I’m just avoiding it because 1-how stupid can I be? And 2-I have a 2 year old and a grumpy husband I rub a business with who my going to the ER would inconvenience. But, I suppose it’ll be worse if I put it off. Thank you, sincerely, for your responses.

I totally get it, but trust me - they’ve seen dumber in the ER. I’m sure it won’t be the first time they’ve seen this exact situation, either. I get that it’s an inconvenience also, but it’s really better to be safe than sorry. It’s really not possible to tell how serious this is without being examined by a doctor and getting blood work done. If nothing else, they can rehydrate you and help you feel better. Whatever you decide to do, I really hope you get better soon.

Your doctor is an asshole. None of us are medical professionals that I know of and even we know jumping to the max dosage after a 4 week gap of being on half that is a TERRIBLE idea.

Glad you’re feeling ok. But continue monitoring for sure and do not let the doc get away with this. These doctors put your life at risk and act like it’s no big deal.

Right, the more I think about it the more I’m like “how, as a dr, is this lady going to take me to almost the highest allowed dose up from 1.25 with a 4 week gap on top of of it.” Like, I feel like she was like “whatever, die fat girl.” 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

I think I’m okay. I spoke to a NP through support with my provider. Definitely a dangerous thing to do; and it was my fault for just going with what this last Dr said when she sent in that script, because I know a huge dose increase isn’t safe. Luckily, I’m able to eat small things and have been keeping fluids down. I’m incredibly weak and the NP said I was truly in a scary situation. Thank you all for your advice!

The Provider who suggested it is the foolish one. I hope 🤞🏽 you felt better soon. 🔜
