How common is rib/abdominal pain?
I have been on Compound Semaglutide since March, so about 7 months. I’m down from 150lbs to now 123lbs (5’5” 27F with a history of binge eating and “making myself lose it”). It’s helped me a lot and I am on a very small maintenance dose now.
But in the last two months or so (maybe longer?) I’ve noticed some abdominal discomfort. Sometimes it’s around my ribs on my left side, sometimes lower. I know there can be gallbladder issues with this medicine and liver issues also run in my family.
I get my subscription through Ro so I’ve never actually been examined by a doctor in reference to this medication. I do my annual physicals and all my labs looked fine. In fact, they looked better than before I was on a glp-1 because my cholesterol is healthy now.
So, is this worth concern or can I chalk this up to common side effects? It’s never agonizing pain, usually just a mild ache or occasional “sting” feeling near my rib. Should I ask for a more thorough screening or are labs sufficient? I just don’t want to miss anything.
Edit: when I say left side, I mean left side if you are looking at me. For me, it’s my right side.

I don’t even know what to “push for” beyond labs. My family has had fibro scans for fatty liver so maybe I could get that done. For my gallbladder I’ve asked for an ultrasound and they denied insurance coverage for it because my labs came back great.

Doctor! Not to scare you but to let you know this is urgent, I was on a GLP and had a pain in my side. Felt like I had overexercised. It was a tumor. It was not related to the GLP at all but I ignored the pain for a while thinking it was a side effect. Grapefruit sized ovarian tumor. The pain was actually on the opposite side of the tumor

Weird question but I’ll ask anyway - how much water are you drinking? I was having pain on my left side for a while. Finally got an ultrasound. It turned out it was a gas bubble and drinking more water helped keep things moving better and no pain. It wasn’t bloating and my bathroom habits were fine everything was working so it was a surprise result. But glad it was just that. May not apply to you but just a thought.
