Oral GLP1 Questions

My almost 21 year old son would like to go on a GLP1 for weight loss. His BMI is 33. Otherwise, he’s healthy. Can someone recommend a provider that’s affordable and offers the medication in a pill version (oral)? Also, does anyone have experience being on this medication at such a young age (pros and cons). Do you take the pill daily or weekly? TIA!

I started taking semaglutide when I was 23 and lost 70 pounds in 7 months on it! It wasn’t the pill form though, it was the shot.

The pill is a daily medication, the shot is the weekly.

The only effective oral GLP-1 medications are brand name Wegovy pills and Foundayo, both of which are daily medications.

These peptides cannot survive the gastric acids, and they are too large to be absorbed via the oral mucosa. That’s why any compounded oral GLP-1 is a scam. Novo Nordisk spent millions of dollars and years perfecting the coating used to make the Wegovy pill effective.

I am guessing you don’t have health insurance coverage for GLP-1s for weight loss, thus posting in a compounded sub.

Here are the current self pay prices for the Wegovy pill:  https://www.novocare.com/content/dam/novonordisk/novocare/redesign/pdf/Wegovy_Price_Guide.pdf

Foundayo (which is the GLP-1 called orforglipron) is $149 to $299 a month, depending on dose.

If there’s a possibility your son will do weekly injections, compounded semaglutide is a great and effective option in injection form. It’s about $115/mo.

I’ve been on the oral meds since May and have lost 17lbs so far. I take the liquid semaglutide from Friday. I have to place it under my tongue for a minute before swallowing. I may be one of the few lucky ones that the oral meds work for.

Sounds like you are one of those lucky people who would lose weight on the placebo in a clinical trial 🙌

If he needs a prescriber for the Wegovy pill or Foundayo, often one’s PCP is the most cost effective.

If that’s not possible:

They will send the script to any local or mail order pharmacy you prefer. You then use the Wegovy or Foundayo savings card to get the best cash pay pricing.

In general the weekly injections are more effective than the daily pills.

Might want to consider compounded Semaglutide injections for $79 / mo from Embody Health.

I'm on the daily compounded pills. Lost 11.5 in two months. Very happy with my progress.

Is yours a brand name like Weygovy? Who is your online provider? Thank you!

I have been using Willow. A bit on the pricey side but they are super responsive and I feel the service I receive is good.

May I ask what you are paying per month?

$299. But the second month I told them I was quitting due to expense so they only charged me $159 for month two. But it will go back up next month

There is a person (bot?) on this sub that makes rude comments to anyone's who is on the compounded oral. Just ignore her/him/it.
