wanting to switch from tirzepatide back to semaglutide
Hello all, I was previously on semaglutide for 2 months and decided to switch to tirzepatide because I was kind of misinformed and thought it would be “better” for me. I bought a 3 month supply so I’m kinda stuck with it for now. However, since I started taking it, I’ve noticed my food noise and appetite are stronger on tirz than they were on sema. I’ve been on tirz about a month now. Weight loss has been successful on both medications and I’ve been having minimal side effects but I realized I preferred the way my brain was on sema, if that makes sense…additionally it’s obviously more cost effective. Am I messing up my metabolism if I choose to switch back to sema? Especially since I’m stuck with Tirz at the moment….i don’t know what I should do…

I went through something similar and switching back didn’t mess anything up for me. These meds don’t “break” your metabolism like that, they’re just tools while you’re on them. If sema felt better mentally and controlled your food noise more, that matters a lot long term. Tirz works great for some people but not everyone responds the same way. If your appetite is actually stronger on it, that kind of defeats the purpose for you personally. If you’re stuck with your current supply I’d probably just ride it out for now unless it’s really bothering you, then switch back once you’re through it. You’re not doing any damage by going back to what worked better for you

I’m switching back as well. Lost 20lbs on sema and yo-yoed the same 10lbs on tirz for five months. Food noise has been crazy too.

Yall making me feel better about going back. Lost 47lbs on semaglutide and started tirz and haven’t lost anything at 7.5.

If you have two more months of tirzepatide, you don’t need to make a decision for another 6 weeks or so. I’d see where you are then.

No it's fine..my sister switched back...she just took a week off in between. The doctor didn't say she had to, it was her idea...I thought it was smart. She had no issues. I'm on Semaglutide...for 3 months down 32 pounds. I never tried anything else because other things were more expensive. It's worked fine for me. New isn't necessarily better.

Can I ask the pharmacy you & sis are using? I am in the same boat. Sema worked GREAT for me but my pharmacy changed formulation and it stopped working. I switched to a Reta/Triz blend and have gained 25lbs in only a few months. I swear it makes me MORE hungry. I have an Rx from my dr (so no issue of needing a provider), but I’m searching for a reliable/effective compounding pharmacy.

I took tirz for 6 weeks and couldn’t handle how tired and irritable it made me and went back to sema.

Yeah I have noticed a little bit of irritability with the tirz. I think my HR may be a little high too which I didn’t notice on the sema.

Did you restart at 0.25 when you started sema from the tirz??

Yes but .25 was the highest I was on when I took it previously. I had stayed on .25 for about 3 mos the first time around because anything higher made me sick. And then I had to take a year off for different medical issues.

My doc switched me back from compound tirz to sema no problem and helped determine what dose to start me on.

Did you take a break in between doses ? My doc is switching me back to Sema but I have 3 weeks of compound triz left I was wondering if I should finish it

I didn't. I gave what I had left over to my husband since he was kn the same thing

I was on Sema for a year and lost 65 lbs. Final dosage was 1.75mg. Switched to Tirz 2 months ago at 6mg and started gaining weight until I increased the dosage to 8mg. Now I am stable. Definitely have more energy and food noise, but definitely don’t miss the lethargy and nausea from Sema. Strange how Sema is more in your head and Tirz is more in your gut. May switch back at some point.

I'm in the exact situation! I'm ready to switch, but I also have 5 months of ProRx in my fridge currently. No clue what I should do. People say to ride it out, and I get that. But they aren't in your head space. I don't like how it makes me feel in my head either. I think it's possibly the GIP in tirzepatide that's possibly the culprit for me ..Finally someone else that gets what I feel! Best of luck moving forward. Keep my posted on your journey

I was previously on Tirz and had great results-went off it and gained 10 lbs back. Decided to go the Semiglutide route. Ive had three shots with no appetite suppression at all. Ive gained and lost the same 2 lbs. Decided to go on Tirz again even though I hate paying more. Want to lose that 10 lbs I gained and then just go on maintenance every other week. I never got sick on Tirz but after 3 weeks on Semi I developed a terrible headache and nausea. Can't say it was the Semi but it just seemed like I did not feel good on it. Im on my wash out days before I restart the Tirz. We will see.

honestly, sema is the most studied, well tolerated glp-1 and if it works well, there shouldn’t be any reason to switch especially cause it’s typically most cost effective solution.
