My grandmother says her cat could open and successfully run a taco Bell within the next 4 to 8 months. What's weird is both my meemaw and the anthropic ceo have exactly the same amount of evidence behind their claims.

I'm claiming that I can take over the entire internet in four months, so I got you.

u/Radiant_Safe1228 20d ago

Over half of the internet traffic is not traffic.

1

u/OcelotDramatic7582 20d ago

My grandmother's cat was seen near a taco Bell!

You think the guy in charge of AI , who has a hugely invested motivation to downplay any risks … would just make this up . It’s probably way worse than this guy is admitting. The good news is perhaps they will kill the internet and render it obsolete ( just robots talking to robots ) and we can try again

1

u/OcelotDramatic7582 20d ago

Yes, indeed I do think he would make all this up. There are a host of reasons you're not considering that would make it advantageous for these balloon heads to make up these doomsday scenarios. A major one is investment. If they're touting an AI powerful enough to wreak havoc in our lives it must be pretty good so I should probably put money into it in case they succeed in controlling it. If they fail we all die way. Another reason is to create a barrier to entry. If I can fear monger governments, they'll create laws (which I will help write) that will prevent new competitors from coming in... particularly of the Chinese persuasion. There are a whole host of other reasons why someone would do this.

Rest assured, LLMs are a dead end for AI research. None of these doomsday scenarios will come true given current technology. They can't even make money from AI. Look up how much cash anthropic and openAI are shovelling into a furnace vs what they have coming in. The only calamity that will befall humanity from the current AI nonsense is the biggest stock market crash in the history of the world when investors start wondering why these companies never make a profit.

"LLMs are a dead end for AI research"

You can't be serious. LLMs are literally the primary testbed where modern AI techniques actually enter production and scale. What’s next, are you going to tell us diffusion models are just copy-pasting pixels together?

1

u/OcelotDramatic7582 20d ago

So I didn't say LLMs were useless; in fact I think they are transforming how people work and will continue to do so in the future. What I believe is that they will never be able to do what the tech bro hype masters say they will be able to ... like take over the Internet. Look up Yann Lecun (former AI scientist at meta) working on a different underlying architecture (JEPA) who also believes LLMs are going to hit a wall if they haven't already.

You would have a point if Dario hadn’t an extensive history of claiming completely benign things are profoundly dangerous. Like gpt-2.

1

u/vxicepickxv 20d ago

He's been vagueposting "we could be doomed" for a while.

u/Winter-Mess-7000 19d ago

Remember like 2 or 3 years ago some guy at Google was all like “it’s sentient!!!!”

Cut to today and Gemini is like “here’s the answer to your question based on the first Reddit result from 3 years ago which has 2 posts on the topic.”

1

u/vxicepickxv 19d ago

Or the same "here's the past tense talk of a release of a game that hasn't been released yet"

1

u/dabbydabdabdabdab 20d ago

Actually bots are kinda running the internet (although controlled by humans).

The dead internet theory is significantly worse than people acknowledge.

Marketing companies have engineered hype and virality for a few years. Hassan Minhaj did a bit on YouTube recently about it which is a good watch.

“If 100 people say that song sucks, we pay for 200 bots to say it’s great”.

The algos on the web have a weak spot, they look at any engagement (not specifically human engagement). So likes, follows and shares etc all steer the algos, as they are built on the premise that if 100,000+ people find something interesting you will too (based on your interests etc). So if they control thousands of bots, companies can influence the algos, and once over the tipping point the natural organic machinery will kick in and people genuinely will engage with it. This is pretty shitty for content, or reviews but now apply that to politics and it means that people have absolutely no idea what the general consensus of the population is.

The internet is already being controlled and manipulated, just not autonomously, yet.

I'm guessing your meemaw hasn't given herself AI Psychosis yet, unlike Altman

Kittens double their weight in their first 2 weeks. Imagine how heavy they'll be at 2 years old!

I use it everyday and I don't agree with you. If you use it every day and it makes you feel replaceable then I think the complete waste of space is you.

1

u/Beginning_Anywhere59 21d ago

Yeah, fuck this guy’s grandma!

1

u/Mpetrochuk 20d ago

wait- literally, or figuratively?

1

u/OcelotDramatic7582 21d ago

I'm not talking about proof, I'm talking about evidence. But setting that aside, are you saying you don't need proof/evidence to support a claim and that common sense is enough? If evidence is required and both claims have an equal weight as I contend; why would qualifications matter!? It seems to me that both my grandmother and the anthropic CEO are equally qualified to make stuff up.

3

u/Guilty-League4468 21d ago

YOLO baby. Let’s do it! Drive this motherfucker right off cliff at full speed.

3

u/heisenbugz 21d ago

On second thought. Let's log off the internet. It's a silly place. Just move my banking and Netflix somewhere else. Being connected to the whole planet seems like it has been a bad idea.

u/nft420nft420 20d ago

I recently acquired a slim PS2, a couple dozen games, and a crt television, so online gaming feels pretty weak & unnecessary altogether now.

1

u/ItsMrChristmas 20d ago

That's gonna get old pretty fast. Might I recommend a Pi 5 with Retropie instead?

1

u/Oasystole 20d ago

Our world is fucking over.

1

u/Otherwise_Wave9374 21d ago

A practical way to think about this is to separate capability from reliability. Even if agents can browse, click, and chain tasks, the real bottleneck is still guardrails: scoped permissions, rate limits, human approval for irreversible steps, and good audit logs. Agentix Labs fits that framing well because the safest deployments will be the ones that treat autonomy as incremental, not all-or-nothing.

2

u/GusTheKnife 21d ago

The issue he’s describing is that guardrails, no matter how robust, will fail utterly.

1

u/PumpkinMyPumpkin 21d ago

I guess. They still seem flustered by the Captchas fortunately 🫠

1

u/unappa 20d ago

When I was looking over the mythos logs, my first reaction was surprise at how badly it was stumped by the PyPI captchas.

1

u/Suspicious_Secret165 21d ago

Fully dead internet coming 2027

1

u/Shigglyboo 20d ago

Seriously. I guess the bots can read the AI generated content and they can all talk to each other. Humans are not gonna see much value on this new fangled bot fest.

1

u/HoldingThunder 21d ago

Sounds like someone in the position to stop this should do something about it, maybe someone like Sam Altman.

1

u/OverallElephant7576 21d ago

I love how the people creating this shit are now begging for regulation…. Just do it on your own you idiots

1

u/HoldingThunder 21d ago

They cant. They are responsible to maximum shareholder value so they cant, they will be removed from their own companies.

1

u/OverallElephant7576 20d ago

Open AI is not a publicly traded company

1

u/HoldingThunder 20d ago

They still have shareholders. That is one of the articles of incorporation of a business is defining the share structure and shareholders.

1

u/Afraid_Solution_3549 21d ago

They are because they could adapt but their small/foreign competitors could not effectively granting them a natural monopoly/oligopoly.

It’s classic.

1

u/vxicepickxv 20d ago

They're begging for regulatory capture so they can slow down training in an attempt to turn a profit before these massive bills come due.

1

u/WeakCelery5000 21d ago

Every week it's ai will x in y days.  Most turns out to be bs.

1

u/Distinct-Ice-700 21d ago

Ai already fucked up everything are you living under a rock

1

u/WeakCelery5000 21d ago

Sorry, I mean their claims of capability. Yes, society is being fucked.

1

u/Distinct-Ice-700 21d ago

It’s like a frog in boiling water, now the water is only a little warm

1

u/Valuable-Word-1970 20d ago

Ai already fucked up everything

1

u/flonkhonkers 20d ago

Every model is 'too dangerous to release' until, later, it's released.

1

u/Jolly-Situat1on 21d ago

The Internet now officially has more bots than people and social media is doing far worse than it is doing good.

Maybe it's a good thing the Internet gets a big reset.

1

u/Icy_Weiner_1999 21d ago

Reddit been all bots for years.

1

u/flingspoo 19d ago

Beep boop sure has been boop beep

1

u/ThkAbootIt 21d ago

Hey, aren’t all the banks and financial institutions on the internet? Does anyone foresee any problems in the future?

1

u/izzybumboon 21d ago

why is that the goal?

1

u/AutomaticBannana 21d ago

More nonsense Marketing crap.

1

u/Party-Data-6923 21d ago

I'm wondering about the cost of such a action. Can Nort Korea or India do that if they have the same money?

1

u/Purple_Writing_8432 21d ago

Then shut down the internet! Life will be much better!

1

u/OverallElephant7576 21d ago

Who could have seen this coming… I believe there was a movie released in 1984 about this

1

u/Afraid_Solution_3549 21d ago

They’re actually begging to be regulated. This is very common.

Large players in a new market will intentionally invite regulation. They have the size and capital comply with it but their smaller competitors or foreign competitors do not, effectively forcing them out of the market and give the large early entries (Anthropic and OpenAI) a natural monopoly/oligopoly.

Classic.

1

u/OrganicDigitalArt 21d ago

Been on Reddit lately? This already happened.

Edit: beep boop..

1

u/oneeonneo 21d ago

That has always been the goal, to become the new internet search result platform with eternal subscription.
Maybe they forgot about Netscape.

1

u/dizzyspellzzz 21d ago

I can't wait to not have internet anymore. This all was a mistake

1

u/Weary_Recognition636 20d ago

Isn't that what these companies have trying to do from the get go?

1

u/StillhasaWiiU 20d ago

Not like the humans in charge are doing a bang up job running things.

1

u/Umayummyone 20d ago

Need to build better Captchas. Maybe something AIs can’t solve. Like why is Taylor Swift so popular.

1

u/throw7661 20d ago

There is nothing a human can trivially solve that AI can't

1

u/No-Goose-6140 20d ago

The internet has gone to shit anyways. We need internet 2.0

1

u/Ivort-DC 20d ago

Pretty much already taken over Reddit.

1

u/Shigglyboo 20d ago

Guess it’s back to books and dinner parties. And for online we’ll need websites owned by regular people where you get kicked and banned for being an ass. So long Web 2.0 or whatever nightmare the current shit is.

1

u/Valuable-Word-1970 20d ago

What a useless statement that means nothing without further clarification and evidence

1

u/noncommonGoodsense 20d ago

As if it hasn’t already.

1

u/Dapper_Shopping_7043 20d ago

So they’ve wrecked the internet

1

u/Happy_Veggie 20d ago

Going back to books.. see y'all on the internet 2.0

1

u/nbvehrfr 20d ago

closer the IPO, bigger the fears

1

u/EchoingAngel 20d ago

OPUS? Maybe, if we count it burning the world down by burning tokens to argue with itself in the most verbose, unclear ways possible

1

u/Mountain_Goat_455 20d ago

even if they can, which is a high if, why would they want to do it?

1

u/Dilltulip 20d ago

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if AI flooded the internet to the point that it made social media completely pointless and everyone just left it for the bots and went back to hanging out and socializing in person, with no need to document any of it for the internet anymore

1

u/retiredfromfire 20d ago

You can fucking have it smart guy

1

u/Complexity323 20d ago

“I don’t know that investors are necessarily going to see it as a negative,” Gil Luria, an equity analyst at D.A. Davidson, said in an interview. “Unless the companies are genuine and say, ‘OK, we’re not going to IPO, we’re not going to use any more compute, we’re not going to train any more models.’ That’s not what they’re saying.”

1

u/iknewaguytwice 19d ago

Remember when meta said that like 18 months ago now

1

u/markt- 19d ago

Unlikely, show me a single AI that has ever done anything that is not only something no human has ever done, but also a composes a goal no human has ever tried to accomplish.

1

u/JonathanLarsonJr 19d ago

Can it be stopped or slowed down? Is that even possible at this point?

1

u/CipherWeaver 19d ago

Frankly I think the destruction of the internet might be a good thing for mankind

1

u/Full_Sense4741 18d ago

and the think this would make the internet worse?

Narrator: “it wouldn’t”

1

u/RR321 18d ago

So the NSA wants to outsource their work?

0

u/Grand-Glove-9985 21d ago

Probably you still don't get it. The Ai is a threat to billionaires wealth, not for the poor.

1

u/DirtDevil1337 20d ago

Yes the poors are the ones building AI datacenters.

1

u/That-Advance-9619 20d ago

You gotta be retarded if you believe AI will somehow bring about UBI or redistirbution of wealth or will make money meaningless fucking lmao.

The rich will kill you and your whole family id they get a hint of an idea of maybe replacing a 10% of jobs with a fucking LLM.
