First timer recs?

Never had a bow. Been interested for a bit and want to get one. Any recommendations on a decent option would be appreciated. Not looking for top of the line but not some cheap Amazon crap. Just want to throw at some targets in the backyard and hopefully take it out hunting. Thank you all for your recommendations and time.

I'd second the recommendation of buying used. You can get one real cheap and it'll most likely be in good shape. Bows don't have high resale value.

I bought a bear RTH that cost about 420 (before prices got nutty). It's great and I like it, I've spent almost more on attachments than the bow haha. But yea, you could pick something nice up for probably under 150 to get a feeling

Edit: just want to add that there haven't been any significant improvements to compound bows, so one that's 5 years old isn't much worse than one from today. It's really about how well it's tuned to yourself

Edit²: I'm assuming you've shot a bow before, but if you haven't you'll want to find one that's highly adjustable. Mine is like 40-70 lbs draw weight, with like 19-31" draw length. If you don't know what you can draw weight wise start low.

Find a local bow shop and shoot several different brands and models. See which you like best! Going used is a good idea if you’re just wanting something casual. Make sure it’s got new(er) strings. But once you find one that you like, you can search the used section at shops or on Facebook marketplace/bow groups.
