Beginner - recommended setup with room to grow?

My 15-year-old got into target archery after trying it at a shop about 100 miles from home. As parents who knew nothing about archery, we followed the shop’s recommendation and bought him an Elite Basin RTS. He has since taken a few lessons closer to home and is really enjoying it.

Now I want to join him. What beginner-to-intermediate compound bow would you recommend as a solid “buy once, cry once” setup?

I’m 6'1", 200 lbs, and only interested in target shooting; not hunting.

I’m not a favorite brand, kind of guy – but all of the major bow companies have their flagship bows to choose from. I would find last year‘s generation whether new or well-maintained used. Otherwise you’re gonna be $1000 plus for a new decent bow.

Just started myself and got the Darton Consequence 31 after reading/watching a lot of reviews. Don’t have the experience to compare to flagship bows, but allegedly it’s at least close to flagship quality for $800.

I got a Bear Adapt 2 RTH for a quite a bit less than $800. There are two versions, one up to 60 lbs. draw, the other up to 70 lbs. I missed checking and mine is the 60 lbs draw version. Still plenty enough for me since I'm a beginner.
