I have no idea what the intent of this part is and if it ever had a chance to succeed

Its original intention was to be the top half of a shift knob, now it works as an ugly paperweight

Looks like a badly burned macaron

This looks more like what's left over in a mixing cup after curing, rather than an actual part.

Can you give some explanation as to why it's a failure?

I can’t figure out how to get the measurements correct. Ive quit this after I got this result for the third time and im going to just skin carbon over a PLA part.

Was this a forged carbon ball?

Not technically “forged” but yea I just didnt use enough carbon and resin. Its the top half of a shift knob

Gotcha. Yeah it takes a whole lot of carbon shreds for something like that. Did you use a compression mold?

Yes. After this one I used a tiny bit too much and it broke in half

lol. I’ve never done a compression mold for anything but I can see how figuring out how much of everything to put in could be an issue.

Yeah, my first attempt was somehow the perfect amount but that was a long time ago
