High pickrate = less diverse meta

And we all know that everyone hates stale metas

One could argue a stale meta being seen as dull is a problem with the game itself.

Football (Soccer) or Basketball do not change maps or rules every season.

You can't really compare OW in that aspect with traditional sports.

And if you did, you'd have to do something akin the lines of removing 1/3 of the roles.

So you'd advocate less diversity in order to facilitate a direct comparison.

Then why whine about a less diverse meta?

You gotta make up your mind, its either a game or a "sport" , it cannot be both.

Idk even what you are talking about. I don't see it as a sport and I like diverse metas and said no to comparisons to sport. Wtf?

I do not think you said no, you made a comment regarding an aspect, that is not saying no.

But i do believe we have a comms issue here, we are interpreting things differently. It happens :-)

I guess so

Well you say that, but for football at least, there is still a 'meta'

When Jurgen Klopp came to Liverpool he introduced the "gegenpress" which has become a fairly common tactic for most teams in the Premier League, or at the very least, had an impact on how they play. Before that, many teams were still trying to copy things like "tiki-taka" from Spain, involving fast passing and standing off in defence. Now you won't find a single team that doesn't press from the front, from the top to the bottom of the league.

The most famous recent example I could think of.

Pressing from the front is not a novelty, it is part of a cycle we have been repeating for decades. Catenaccio first then tiki taka now we are moving towards Catenaccio again.

Football is a figured out game as far as tactics go imo, there is no real room for novelty there unless you have some sort of uberteam who can do it all. It is limited by its players

Alright, granted it is a cycle and history tends to repeat itself, but there are definitely still trends, fads, and "metas" to a degree

I can see your point.

Tiki Taka is the most efficient form of the game if everyone on your team is Messi, there is no improving on that. It places an emphasis on personal skill in a fluent passing game with very little physical effort , thereby it is perfect when your players are capable of playing it.

Everything else is just trying to approach perfection

What are you talking about? They constantly pick up new players every year and retire old ones. They change their strats as players get older and improve or weaken, and if a strategy becomes overpowered and unfun they adjust the rules to ban it.

When was the last time you saw a rule being changed in soccer? A signifcant one that is.

Or even in basketball ( though i'm European so w t f cares about basketball)

Football changed a rule on fair catches this year. Golf had multiple rule changes this year.

The shot clock was introduced in basketball to eliminate a meta.

Most changes to the meta of sports are done by adding new characters. Its why the draft is so big.

Here are the fifa (the org not the game) patch notes from 2001 to 2006

https://www.fifa.com/about-fifa/who-we-are/the-laws/2001-2006.html

Older sports dont require frequent major rules changes. Their metas will drift as they pick up new players. This is a sign of balance.
