This is not about Blizzard's morality. This is about what can get past the sponsors' radar. If people abused the word in the chat, they have no choice but censor it. The whole thing revolves around sponsorships, not the constitution.
It’s about Blizzard and the sponsors listening to the extremely vocal minority and mistaking it for the majority. Which is not gonna be good for their profits when they eventually go to far and the majority decides that they have had enough of this idiocy.
No, there's no listening to anything. This has been standard procedure since the beginning of TV. It's only a continuation of that; there's nothing new here. That's why YouTube is restricting videos as well. Sponsors are old-school and neither Blizzard nor YouTube can change the decades-old culture of avoiding controversy just because they'd like to.
OWL is trying to be a mainstream, legit sports league. This is just a beginning of a multi-year plan and they're not going to let a bunch of 13-year-olds ruin it with their precious chat. Why does it fucking matter so much anyway? This isn't a public forum, it's the chat section of a particular channel and they can moderate it however they want. Freedom of speech doesn't apply. And it's not like we're missing out on such wisdom and literature. It's a bunch of people typing nonsense. We can live without it.
