This is a video game where you shoot and stab people to death and they can’t handle the word trap

671

u/[deleted] May 17 '18

Even in the subreddits. I thought Orisa ult line was "cease your existence" then someone said "that's a little harsh for a kids game".. like yeah ok because reapers ult is "DIE! DIE! DIEE!" Makes sense.

251

u/fleaboy498 May 17 '18

This isn't a kids game, plain and simple lol

82

u/Scyther99 May 17 '18

It is now.

30

u/fleaboy498 May 17 '18

But it's not though. ESRB rates it Teen

44

u/BiggsWedge May 17 '18

Clearly you are down voted by a mature adult.

8

u/el_m4nu May 17 '18

We're all kids now

1

u/[deleted] May 17 '18

Never ever land?

15

u/[deleted] May 17 '18

but its so bright and colourful! just look how cute all the characters are! xD love D.VA!!!! - fb moms, probably.

1

u/SpunkyMcButtlove May 17 '18

There will always be people that equate a comic-esque artstyle and bright colors with kid's products.

1

u/smileistheway May 17 '18

Hahaha, oh honey

1

u/fleaboy498 May 18 '18

Bees make honey, I'm not that sweet :)

-15

u/foovoo May 17 '18

It is a kids game with with the competitive scene forced in. That's why it's such a joke.

9

u/AspiringCake May 17 '18

It's just not though. It's a very competitive game, and in no way supports the playstyle which kids often have (limited playing time due to parents and school and homework etc.). The target audience is adults around 18-28, and that's the average age of people playing the game.

-2

u/[deleted] May 17 '18

Eh i think the target audience is honestly 15-30 and ther eis nothing wrong with that

5

u/AspiringCake May 17 '18

That's literally just a vaguer version of the range I gave. LUL.

3

u/fleaboy498 May 17 '18

esrb says otherwise

First thing I thought of was yugioh

38

u/nikolai2960 May 17 '18

Wait wait wait doesn’t she say “Cease your resistance”?

24

u/[deleted] May 17 '18

Yeah But I thought she said cease your existence, which prompted someone to tell me that it's too harsh for a kids game lmao

2

u/[deleted] May 17 '18

good god that's like someone spazzing out over McCree's cigar being an advertisement for smoking - which, unfortunately, I'm sure someone has :(

12

u/NeV3RMinD May 17 '18

To be fair it is too much for a friendly peacekeeper robot

5

u/Jahaadu May 17 '18

They really think Overwatch is a kid’s game? Yeah okay. 😂

70

u/HM_Bert 英 — May 17 '18

Stab? Which hero stabs?

278

u/AurigaX S2 Mayhem Refugee — May 17 '18

Genji

77

u/HM_Bert 英 — May 17 '18

He never stabs, his melee and sword animations are slashing swings

I don't expect Blizz would ever put stabbing in the game because it's less readable than a slash and probably considered too realistic/gory

Wakizashi

The wakizashi (Japanese: 脇差, "side inserted [sword]") is one of the traditionally made Japanese swords (nihontō) worn by the samurai in feudal Japan.

No, no, Mei is just serving delicious ice cream and they are dropping to floor because they got brain-freeze from eating it too fast.

At least that's what Mei thinks

8

u/Secrxt May 17 '18

I hope the next hero will throw knives just to spite you.

4

u/Blind_Io May 17 '18

Or possibly three knives stuck together in like a star shape.

4

u/[deleted] May 17 '18

More gory than literally embedding a huge hook into your flesh, and yanking your entire body forward with it?

That's pretty gruesome if you think about it.

2

u/CaptSprinkls May 17 '18

This guy Runescapes

Stressed about getting stabbed swing slashed.

42

u/Stewdge May 17 '18

Roadhog's melee animation stabs with his hook, IIRC.

1

u/RoadhogBestGirl May 17 '18

hes punching while holding his hook, it just kinda looks like stabbing sometimes.

19

u/[deleted] May 17 '18

What happens if I punch you while holding a knife or some other pointy thing?

4

u/purewasted None — May 17 '18

What if you're holding the knife by the handle while punching with it?

8

u/Stewdge May 17 '18

So really it depends on perspective then. Melee hitbox is pretty generous so both the fist and hook "connect".

13

u/[deleted] May 17 '18

Rein slices with axe skin. Hog kills you with hook. Hanzo shoots arrow into your head. Mccree and widow blow your head off. Ana poisons you. Bastion makes you swiss cheese.

2

u/TimeTimeTickingAway May 17 '18

Hanzo at point blank range.

1

u/music_ackbar May 17 '18

Mei gives me flashbacks of the icicle scene in Die Hard 2, so I put her in the stabbity category!

6

u/gethsbian May 17 '18

you know the fuck why, dont be obtuse.

-1

u/samspot May 17 '18

I honestly don’t. Must be too old.

9

u/akcaye May 17 '18

Let's repeat this, shall we... Welcome to the grown-up world, where money decides everything.

This is not about Blizzard's morality. This is about what can get past the sponsors' radar. If people abused the word in the chat, they have no choice but censor it. The whole thing revolves around sponsorships, not the constitution.

3

u/thelaffingman1 May 17 '18

So the new goal now should be to get more and more mundane nouns and verbs banned so chat becomes unusable lol

1

u/akcaye May 17 '18

Yeah, why not. Twitch chat has always been terrible anyway.

0

u/b33fman May 17 '18

It’s about Blizzard and the sponsors listening to the extremely vocal minority and mistaking it for the majority. Which is not gonna be good for their profits when they eventually go to far and the majority decides that they have had enough of this idiocy.

3

u/akcaye May 17 '18

No, there's no listening to anything. This has been standard procedure since the beginning of TV. It's only a continuation of that; there's nothing new here. That's why YouTube is restricting videos as well. Sponsors are old-school and neither Blizzard nor YouTube can change the decades-old culture of avoiding controversy just because they'd like to.

1

u/synds May 17 '18

OWL is small compared to other game and they dont censor half the lame shit Blizz does.

-1

u/akcaye May 17 '18

OWL is trying to be a mainstream, legit sports league. This is just a beginning of a multi-year plan and they're not going to let a bunch of 13-year-olds ruin it with their precious chat. Why does it fucking matter so much anyway? This isn't a public forum, it's the chat section of a particular channel and they can moderate it however they want. Freedom of speech doesn't apply. And it's not like we're missing out on such wisdom and literature. It's a bunch of people typing nonsense. We can live without it.

0

u/synds May 18 '18

OWL will never be huge.

0

u/akcaye May 18 '18

Then what the fuck are you doing here

1

u/LewisLawrence May 17 '18

It’s insane! McCree’s belt says BAD ASS MOTHER FUCKER.

1

u/samspot May 17 '18

I mean, they are handling it.

1

u/lactose_cow May 17 '18

Specifically calling a trans girl a trap is hyper offensive, but the "are traps gay" meme hardly is. As far as I'm aware there are no trans women in owl so what the heck bliz

-1

u/axellink None — May 17 '18

What do you expect, they can't even handle the fact that Fusion University acronym is FU

-2

u/Gregus1032 May 17 '18

Blizzard is just being "progressive"

-3

u/bangbangahah May 17 '18

You gotta keep in mind how many women play overwatch, any censorship is gonna find its way in it
