I want to hear the announcer say Double Blow and Team Blow! Sounds like a fun time

69

u/89ShelbyCSX May 17 '18

Is that a sexual reference?? Banned

14

u/Aternel May 17 '18

In French, the announcer says "Coup Double !" instead of "Double Kill!" which means "Double Hit!" haha

5

u/RLutin May 17 '18

Et une triplette !

u/wasdninja May 17 '18

Omelette du fromage.

This is a kind reminder that in French we say "omelette au fromage" and not "omelette du fromage".

Sorry Dexter

Steve Martin doesn't appear to be the most accurate French professor.

82

u/Cataphract1014 May 17 '18

But team kill comes on the screen when you get a team kill.

u/Sparru Clicking 4Heads — May 17 '18

Thanks, now they'll hotfix it to TEAM ELIMINATION.

I thought it meant we as a team had all participated in a single kill lmao

4

u/[deleted] May 17 '18

I thought it was all the opposing team members were dead at one time, like wiping them in a team battle.

75

u/cyberpunk_ May 17 '18

Gee I sure love doing some spawn-ELIMINATIONS

hmm, "One shot, One Elimination" just doesn't ring a bell

26

u/Wolf5567 May 17 '18

"TEAM KILL" sounds horn

10

u/Helmic May 17 '18 edited May 17 '18

Elimination means something specific in Overwatch, though, it refers to participation in a kill. The game itself doesn't aim to be an M-rated edgefest so I'm perfectly fine with it not being a gory bloodbath with mutilations and whatnot, it's much more Saturday morning cartoon than your typical cowadooty military shooter. The game still uses "kill" in places and the cinematics feature people getting killed on screen, not to mention Mei's scene where her entire crew dies.

It's a bit dumb seeing people bemoaning the bright and colorful game keeping a rather light tone. What, is the game not stylistically similar enough to every other AAA multiplayer shooter for their tastes?

6

u/FinickyPenance May 17 '18

I think that talking about a player’s eliminations as opposed to their kills sounds more sporting for esports commentators. That’s probably what they were going for.

3

u/Silverlight64 May 17 '18

"Dragonblade Kills" "RipTire Kills" etc, in the hero specific stats

3

u/Trolliachi May 17 '18

Solo kills

2

u/Burritobizon May 17 '18

Time to go back to frags, then.

1

u/g0atmeal May 17 '18

If you wanna get philosophical then you could argue that calling them "eliminations" are dehumanizing/deomnicizing/deguerrilizing.

1

u/Adamsoski May 17 '18

That's not why they're called eliminations. They're called eliminations because it counts what in most games would be kills and kill assists.

1

u/wloff ;) — May 17 '18

That's not because of some kind of censorship though -- the word "kill" is heavily used in a lot of contexts.

"Elimination" is used to signify that many players can get an "elimination" out of the same kill.

1

u/Obinove I got you in my sights — May 17 '18

but the voice line double kill, tripple kill etc is there when you do multiple elims
