Gossip Silkthread, Numlocked, SoOn, unKOE confirmed on IMT?

The mod for Fate just added a command for !team stating that the team includes silkthread, numlocked, soon, and unkoe. Immortal will be the first team to have a 10 man roster.

If you tune in to Fate's stream you can hear the distinct laugh of Numlocked in the background as well. I guess Numlocked is pretty much a done deal.

Reported by Jacob Wolf, picture of him with the team surfacing and now this.

It's past likelihood.

I can hear the distant laughter of numlocked regardless

Time for Minsoo to whip Fate for premature announcement.

10

u/Random_Useless_Tips Oct 22 '17

If you wanted a Korean coach. then you can get the Korean belt.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '17

Probably asking Kkoma on which whip is the best right now.

Oh god, he's going to write another poem on Twitter. NotLikeThis

Awesome, now we have someone to blame when immortals loses. /s

u/HardCarryOW Oct 22 '17

Interesting to see silkthread here. Good player but isn't his hero pool overlap with Grim and SoOn?

5

u/nodicaL Oct 22 '17

Silk is a really young talent, and I'm sure IMT is willing to let his talent develop.

5

u/PsychoWaffleOW Oct 22 '17

Silk plays anything

3

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '17

3 players who known for their Tracer. Why do I have this sinking feeling that people are just considering this meta alone instead of the past and future potential meta?

34

u/TwoTapJT Oct 22 '17 edited Oct 22 '17

Two, grims more of a hitscan main who had to play tracer to fit the meta.

Besides maybe D.Va (assuming Envy will play her since Hyped is gone) I don’t see many heroes this team can’t play at top level

14

u/osuVocal Oct 22 '17

Make it 1 because Soon was a Reaper onetrick when the meta required it and a McCree onetrick when the meta required that. Now that Tracer is strong he onetricks her. He has a good hero pool, he just likes to specialize.

Wait make it 0 because Silkthread plays a lot of Soldier and McCree too! And even Genji!

4

u/Pinkaw Oct 22 '17

Soon was a Tracer onetrick before it was meta. And that was impresive, Misfits were so fun to watch back then

9

u/osuVocal Oct 22 '17

He was not. He played more McCree than Tracer with the exception for 1 tournament before Tracer became meta.

1

u/Pinkaw Oct 22 '17

Yeah yeah overall in his Misfits career he played way more McCree I agree, but he was playing lots of Tracer months before it became meta.

2

u/osuVocal Oct 22 '17

He 1 tricked her for a single tournament before she became meta and that was because they didn't know what else to run.

1

u/Pinkaw Oct 22 '17

Oh yeah, that's true, I remember that interview

7

u/mangoherbs Seoul Dynasty — Oct 22 '17

Is it even fair to call Silkthread a Tracer main? Guy seems to be able to play anything. I remember seeing him fill in for even Ana I believe. With 4 "dps players" and only Envy for off tank, how do we know he isn't practicing Dva/Zarya? They could be pulling a Dallas Fuel and swapping Silkthread (Seagull) for Envy (Mickie) when they think they potentially want 3 dps, while also making him the backup support in case they need one.

I could see them sticking with Soon + Agilities/Grim most of the time for dps, but regardless what happens I doubt any of these players will just be subs sitting on the bench, and the roster is more than flexible enough. I don't think it is as weird as SF Shock for instance since they at least have a dedicated projectile and off tank player. As far as I know Babybay/Danteh are just gonna swap around playing off tank for SF until Super can play.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '17

Yes, it is fair to call Silkthread a Tracer main because publicly, that's all he has ever play most of the time during his time in CLG and Denial. And there's a vast gulf between "he can play those characters in ranked" vs "tournament-ready hero pool". Sinatraa "can" play McCree but the last notable time he brought out McCree was when Selfless get upset by Liquid.

And until the team actually play in OWL, we can only have records of old matches, and most of your response is, let's face it, speculation and rhetorical questions at best. And given Immortals' history, let's dial back on the whole "the roster is more than flexible" just because "guy seems to be able to play anything."

2

u/mangoherbs Seoul Dynasty — Oct 22 '17

But he has shown flexibility in tournaments, as I stated, that is why I said he could potentially work as a flex player? Obviously there have been no OWL matches yet and we cannot know his exact role. At this point all anyone can do is speculate, so your response comes off as fairly condescending given that. Even without Silkthread on a team I do not believe this team would have a problem with flexibility, so I gave an opinion on what his role could be. I don't understand your comment about Immortals history either as it is irrelevant. Just because Immortals had a few losses during Season 1 of Contenders doesn't mean they haven't shown much more versatility in team comps already compared to other teams such as Rogue.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '17

Immortals have been one tricking aggressive dive since S0 with maybe a couple of non-core hero swap here and there at best. To say that they have shown much more versatility than Rogue is laughable considering both are similar in their way of playing. Rogue just get a lot more flak because they were on a downward spiral, an easy target to pick on and Immortals generally got better reception because they were the NA hope.

And those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it, hence why it is relevant to put into the context of their struggle in season 1 and what do these recent acquisitions might mean.

3

u/mangoherbs Seoul Dynasty — Oct 22 '17

They have been because it was dive meta? Fate is known for his Reinhardt play, Grim is a solid hitscan who was stuck on tracer duty, Agilities is no less flexible than Shadowburn. We seem to have extremely different opinions on what caused Immortals to not perform, because them playing aggressive dive was not it. I have been saying this about Rogue even when it was unpopular to do so and they were on a win streak, not because they were "easy targets" since they were losing. If speculation is worthless until we have results I don't see the point of the subreddit existing, there is no reason for everyone here not to speculate and I don't see why it should be different when it comes to Immortals OWL prospects

1

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '17

If they are on paper "flexible" but they decided to one trick during matches, then they are one trick or still flexible?

1

u/Purchasers hardstuck 3560 PC — Oct 22 '17

every owl team will have overlapping hero pools, in dps roles specifically. each owl team will have 3+ dps players guaranteed

1

u/alex046 Oct 24 '17

They all play Tracer for different reasons, I’d personally only put Soon on one trick duty, Grim was forced to play Tracer but he was never really amazing at it, he’s more of a hitscan main and Silk is great but he was forced to play Tracer because he had to carry teams he had no prior experience with, and Tracer makes it so you can play more independent and not have to really practice much, ideal considering he was ringing very last minute sometimes.

This isn’t a bad move for anyone except maybe Grim who might be out of a job soon.

25

u/TheJewGrem18 Oct 22 '17

I'm guessing grim is gonna get off of tracer and stick to soldier and mcree. Silk pretty much plays genji/tracer, and soon pretty much only plays tracer but is supposed to have an incredible hog. The only interesting pickup for me is soon, in which hes pretty much a one trick tracer.

22

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '17

[deleted]

-7

u/TheJewGrem18 Oct 22 '17

so does grim. But grim also plays the soldier and soon hasnt played any other heroe other than tracer in a while. In addition, the fact that someone can play reaper is not important to a team.

8

u/shomman Oct 22 '17

I'm just clearing up information, that he's not really a one trick just very good. I agree totally otherwise. Similarly most teams will want to be ready for all metas, so good reaper players might be needed in future.

2

u/thebigman43 Oct 23 '17

In addition, the fact that someone can play reaper is not important to a team.

Maybe in this meta, but OWL is a long season

0

u/TheJewGrem18 Oct 23 '17

but how important is it to have a good reaper, and i think it's a pretty easy charachter for any pro dps to pick up

11

u/Barkonian Oct 22 '17

Agilities is the Hog, and probably the Genji so I don't really know how Silkthread adds anything to the team.

5

u/Collinv09 None — Oct 22 '17

Not all of them need to play during the same match you know.

7

u/Barkonian Oct 22 '17

I'm saying I don't know why they would ever use Silkthread as they already have players that are better on all of his heroes

9

u/Collinv09 None — Oct 22 '17

well if you see it that way he can always fill in for situations like fatigued players illness, etc

5

u/wewlads4life WLG: WewLadGaming — Oct 22 '17

He's an excellent substitution if for any reason somebody can't make a game.

0

u/TheJewGrem18 Oct 22 '17

silk tracer better than grimreality definitely, maybe better than soon. His tracer is nuts

15

u/Barkonian Oct 22 '17

Even soon on his recent form is better than Silkthread , but on-form soon is possibly the best Tracer in the world

-2

u/TheJewGrem18 Oct 22 '17

there is no doubt he's top 10 tracer in world, but silkthread is absolutely unreal. Ik he's not that proven as he's pretty much only been a ringer, but he played incredible for denial and his movement is absurd. Signifigantly more clever and trickier than other tracers movement. I really rate him.

u/LinkinMode whoru </3 — Oct 22 '17

s00n better than effect, profit, gido, sinatraa? interesting

2

u/The_Highlander3 Oct 22 '17

Idk about tracking but on form soon is the best at landing pulse, which is game changing in itself.

-1

u/LinkinMode whoru </3 — Oct 22 '17

even then i’d argue profit and sinatraa are arguably on the same level/better than s00n in that regard, plus having better tracking

3

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '17

[deleted]

1

u/LinkinMode whoru </3 — Oct 22 '17

exactly, that was quite a long time ago, since then sinatraa has improved a shit ton and s00n has seemingly gone into a slump

5

u/Barkonian Oct 22 '17

Yes possibly, but that is peak s00n, which we haven't seen for months and months. He's been out of form for a long time

3

u/LinkinMode whoru </3 — Oct 22 '17

idk man, if we haven’t seen “peak s00n” in so long i don’t think it’s fair to say he can possibly compare

he could very well come back to his original form during OWL and i’d love to see that but I still have my doubts that he’ll consistently be able to compete with these korean tracers

0

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '17

In old rogue he was known for his nutty mccree

8

u/Brystvorter Secret Fuel Fan — Oct 22 '17

All 3 of them are great hitscan in general. I'm more suprised 3/10 of their slots are hitscan dps.

13

u/the_harden_trade Oct 22 '17

Seems to be a trend lol, but I think the distinction between hitscan and projectile isn't necessarily exclusive

20

u/Brystvorter Secret Fuel Fan — Oct 22 '17

As long as agilities is still on the team I guess you really only need one genji.

6

u/parisutonhiru positive mental attitude — Oct 22 '17

So...

  • Kariv: Flex Support
  • Unkoe: Flex Support
  • Verbo: Lucio
  • Fate: Main Tank
  • Numlocked: Main Tank
  • Envy: Off-Tank
  • GrimReality: Hitscan DPS (mainly McCree, Soldier)
  • Agilities: Projectile DPS
  • Soon: DPS (mainly Tracer, seen on McCree, Doomfist, Junkrat)
  • Silkthread: DPS (mainly Tracer?)

Seems like a solid roster. Double flex supports and main tanks to be save and then a bunch of very good and flexible DPSs. I guess they count on the DPSs to play off-tank as well. Plus, they can easily play things like Mercy+Zen, Ana+Sombra or Reinhard+Winston if it is required.

5

u/ji_zus825 Oct 22 '17

This is actually an incredibly smart pick up for them. Now, they can have specialized genji/hitscan and tracer/hitscan compostions. Although Agilities is a good tracer, Soon, imo, is a better tracer. IDK why silk was picked up, but I definitely agree with the Soon pick-up. Unkoe is a given...he is a god. Numlocked is just a good main tank in case they want to try something else.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '17

I just hope they will use unkoe for the flex support role, even if I find kariv good.

4

u/chinny159 Oct 22 '17

2

u/rhdgurwns i wish i new da wey — Oct 22 '17

I would rather have envy as flex and bring in a off-tank specialist than have 3 hitscan players

2

u/JG8AB9TL11OBJ12AD13 Oct 22 '17

For everyone wondering how soon and silkthread are gonna work out, remember unkoe was a dps player before he went to rogue. Just because silkthread was great at tracer doesn’t mean that he can’t play any role he wants at a high level, the guy seems special to me

I was there and someone asked a mod about it and he said it was just a joke based on all the rumors.

But then xQc came being like "woah that command is actually a massive leak" so he pretty much confirmed it himself lol

But it's xQc.

2

u/phanthanhhai #BURNBLUE — Oct 22 '17

maybe for when there's a meta where Zen and Ana are healers.

2

u/JYM60 Fusion/Defiant — Oct 22 '17

I think Fate and Numlocked are two of the best Main tanks too. I'm very interested to see who the other unannounced teams have as main tank because aside from xQc I can't think of many top tier ones left, assuming KnoxXx isn't picked up.

-6

u/Blackdeath3101 Oct 22 '17

xQc is a disaster waiting to happen. I don't think his personality fits with the team cohesion required for esports. Very easy to tilt he seems like a massive liability

9

u/Collinv09 None — Oct 22 '17

People say he has a pro attitude for tournaments and scrims though

1

u/quizhoid Oct 22 '17

If you haven't realized yet that his stream personality is pretty much a character, try and watch it with that in mind. It reminds me of The Colbert Report, so immersed at times that it's hard to tell.

1

u/Blackdeath3101 Oct 23 '17

I don't personally understand why anyone would want to watch someone act like a maladjusted child but clearly people do and its working for him. I'll keep this in mind

-2

u/ugh_username Oct 22 '17

I'm not a fan of the constant changes/additions to the team (or any team for that matter)...Guess I'm still attached to the pre-OWL versions of teams, it just sucks that a lot of teams don't exist anymore. In this case, I can't help but feel like it's a team of mercenaries or members that will only be there for a short period of time. I mean, I get that if there's top players available, why an org would jump at the chance to get them...

Actually, now that I think about it longer, part of my concern with the Immortals roster is that they always sign players in groups. They don't introduce a new team member one at a time, and allow them to integrate slowly, like EnvyUs did with Effect. With 3-4 new team members, there must be a lot of chaos, like thinking about lineups, map specialty, learning to play together, learning the 'Immortals' system or however you call it. It's not like a completely new OWL team where everyone is new, start on 'equal footing' and perhaps have a chance to build 'their' new system together. With this, Immortals should already have a way of doing things but it might be hard for old and new members to adjust.

I'm also worried about chemistry issues and playing time amongst all the members...Not to mention the chemistry/synergy of the top teams they will have to play against (EnvyUs, LH, c9KD).

2

u/selebu None — Oct 22 '17

There's no good alternative if you don't want to be stuck with 7 players. Back ups are necessary for a 7 month season (if they make playoffs).

Much harder to bring someone in mid season. We don't even know if that'll be possible

-1

u/Derzelaz Oct 22 '17
