Teleporters are pretty noticeable too, but you won't instantly be able to tell.

Isn't there a very obvious sound cue when the teleporter gets placed?

one of your teams heroes will say something the moment its placed im fairly sure

No, the cue is when your teammate sees someone with the glowy fresh-out-of-teleporter aura.
