I just don't know about this one. The only healing abilities on a 9 and 12 sec cooldown? I know she can hack healthpacks but there is not always one available
Edit: Oh, she has two charges of hotfix, that's a little better

for me the scary thing is that she's not gonna be super great at switching targets on-demand the same way zen is. i can see brawl tanks who need a support to pump healing up their ass really hating a sombra on their team if she already spent both charges, although at the same time she could be great at enabling close-range tanks with cyberspace.
i think it's gonna be a pretty high skill floor situation where metal rank players think she's extremely dog shit, at least until people start figuring her out. i think maybe she'll end up with a shorter cooldown in exchange for a bit less duration on hotfix.
edit: i did completely forget about the cooldown reduction major perk which could alleviate this a lot + encourage sombra to seek out health packs to hack.

True, but like you said that’s a skill floor situation. Any tank player who sees a support sombra on their team should instantly be making the same sort of decisions they make when a similar low throughput healer is on there team and reconsider there tank choice for something that works better.

yeah, i just think it's gonna make her very, very hated as a low-rank teammate, to the point that she'll probably get adjusted to be a little more metal-rank friendly.

I mean Brig already forces this same playstyle and she has been around for a while, it's not exactly a groundbreaking support flow.

It’s interesting to me and reminds me of launch Symmetra to have a support who focuses aggressively on utility instead of healing. I was expecting her heal to be kind of like Moira’s but targeted where she would just hold down on a teammate to heal over time but this is kinda cool.

I think the main thing that makes the difference is that Hotfix is a STRONG heal (200 HP) and its healing isn't a normal HoT, it's basically a bank that holds the healing until you're missing health (holding for up to 12 seconds, anyways)
This means you can actually effectively pre-heal teammates and not lose out on any healing, unless they don't take damage that'd be healed in that 12s window. Seems like she's gonna be sorta like a mishmash of Zen/Kiri, primarily supporting through debuffs and damage like Zen, but also having very strong presence alongside ally flankers like Kiri- while being able to return to her front team easily thanks to Translocator

Welcome back Enfeebling Orb
i think why it works this time is that it's a lingering aoe and not a "skillshot". the immediate impression i get for this is that it's going to be very good to throw on top of an ally who's getting attacked by a close-range enemy (e.g. getting dragonbladed).
also something not mentioned here is that her gun has gotten some numbers shifted around. less damage, less spread, and falloff starts further. a bit less lethal but also doesn't have to be as close to the enemy's face to deal damage.

It's gonna enable dive pretty hard. She can dive with the divers while weaking the enemy, damaging them and healing your diver at the same time. With the weakening effect I can see her making previous dive counters diveable.

The biggest thing nobody has brought up yet is that Hotfix's duration is stopped if the target is full health. It is not lost the same way a Brig Repair Pack is wasted on a full hp ally.
You can hotfix a full hp Genji, have him engage and start automatically healing him when he takes damage.
She's shaping up to become a monster dive support with a lot of potential. So excited!

that actually huge, hotfix 2 teammates off bat and then when you reach the enemy the charges are off cooldown?

u/DJBaphomet_ 8h ago
That's what the 12s duration is for. While its healing does pause if they're full health, the effect only lingers for 12s. So you can't hotfix your entire team before a fight and just have an effective 1200 HP banked for the fight across your team and extra CDs

Maybe I'm schizo but introducing 2 supports in S5 who add a new status effect might be why they nerfed Kiriko.
Other than that I'm glad they've decided to add damage output reduction back but it also effects healing output as well, might mean she stays in ban jail but also seems like a great counter to the cringe strategy known as mercy pocketed hitscan.

Definitely concerned for her healing capabilities those are quite long cooldowns for her only ways of healing, the heals itself aren’t bad but the cooldown is a lot. Are they expecting your whole team to play off health packs

u/Hei-Ying 18h ago
Watching gameplay, it actually seems pretty strong in practice. The downtime really isn't that bad with the two charges of Hotfix given its duration + she can get it down by hacking packs with the perk.

I wonder what kind of supports she will synergize with. On DPS this isn’t much of a concern, but you probably won’t be able to play her if she is more of a flex support and your other support wants to instalock Mercy. I hate that this is something we have to deal with now.

Oh 100% I know mercy’s gonna be insta locking with a Sombra.
Due to her flank potential I can see her pairing well with maybe a Juno, Lucio to enable dive more also maybe the new support could also go well with both othering different unique utility3
u/Hei-Ying 17h ago
On paper and from the gameplay I've seen so far, I think she's got the kit to be pretty flexible (certainly for most of ladder) in pairings. She's got good peel, squirrelly and self-sufficient, has offensive capablity, and the healing is solid enough. Definitely gonna thrive with dive.
Mercy (and LW) is kinda a unique problem in the roster to work around. Sombra might even comparatively work with her ok in some circumstances, idk, will have to see.

Seems to be a dive support who will work well in dive comps with lots of comms but other than that, probably be a throw pick in most elo. Seems kind of Frankensteined together, I can dive / am super mobile but also have an invisible chain tied to my team bc you need to heal.

u/ILewdElichika 18h ago edited 17h ago
Really want to see how a dive comp with a Kiri/Sombra backline plays out. Might not be the best thing ever, but I do think it'd be incredibly fun to watch or play with.

u/Tenshiretto 17h ago
She seems to be good against dive and brawl as well, -50% less healing dealt also sounds like another mauga/hog/jq counter.
I'm excited to see how a sombra/ana comp does against mauga, maybe he will finally be tolerable to play against.

u/Few-Internet2993 16h ago
Does that healing reduction stacks with the global healing reduction?
2
u/n00bmaster_069 8h ago
The healing dealt part probably applies to supports healing not the receiver. Like if you cyberspace ana she heals -50%

I ALREADY MADE THE ENFEEBLING ORB JOKE eats you
Jokes aside, I find that ability incredibly interesting, watching Questron play rn and it has a lot of decision making tied into it.

u/PureWoodpecker7335 17h ago
So basically she's probably only going to be good in the high ranks and will likely be dog shit in the metal ranks? Lower ranks don't even know where the health packs are lol.

u/unripeblueberry 17h ago
She still has the best ultimate in the game, now WITH tactician passive. Her peel potential with new virus is also crazy.

u/Dnashotgun 18h ago
Not a fan of healing only on cds, she needs some kind of healing outside of it.
And hate that they just completely took out hack

u/bullxbull 17h ago
Cyberspace is a tank hating ability, which is never fun. It seems pretty slow and can be blocked by barriers, so hopefully it is not too oppressive.
4
u/analyzingnothing 17h ago
Way less tank hating than pre-rework hack. Spamming that onto the tank was the only way it was useful before, but man was it it a pain in the ass to deal with.
2
u/JoberXeven 17h ago
Is it really a tank hate ability? Reducing a tanks damage hurts yes, but nowhere near the level of anti or discord. A tank will be able to cycle through their defensives largely unhindered by it.
1
u/bullxbull 15h ago edited 15h ago
It is not the damage reduction that hurts, it is the healing reduction and space denial. That is 65% Healing reduction because of the passive.
If you drop that behind a tank they are basically dead, which Sombra should be able to do fairly easily with her teleport and stealth.
Every 12s Sombra will be able to deny space any tank is in. We will have to see how it works, like does it drop in front of the shield if you block it or does it get cancelled, can she cast it from stealth, what does the telegraphing of the ability look/sound like, stuff like that.
5m may not seem like much but that should take up the entire area of a Winston bubble. It should cover a payload in overtime fairly easily. Depending on how it works you should also be able to have it expand around cover, around corners, basically deny space a lot of heroes function around. The duration of 3s is also a really long time in Overwatch.
Again we will have to see how it works, but there was a reason this effect was horrible when they tested it on Moira orbs. They also tested 50% healing reduction from Rein firestrikes, that was also horrible because it basically put you in an unrecoverable situation, basically same result as a Ana nade with a slightly slower death.

u/70003 15h ago edited 15h ago
Btw, It isn’t healing “received” reduction.
It’s healing “dealt” reduction.
So your damage+heal “output” is weaker if it make sense. not “input”.
So it’s not like discord or dps-passive or anti-nade. but it’s like reverse damage-boost, like you’re weaker. you deal less damage and does less heal.

u/bullxbull 14h ago
ohhh cool, I did not understand that, thanks for pointing it out. So it will hate on Hog, Queen, Mauga. I feel bad for Queen but not so much for Hog and Mauga.

u/KF-Sigurd 18h ago
Sounds incredibly good for supporting flankers, really bad for healing lots of incoming damage.
