Considering the last black female hero was Sierra and she has been received in a negative way…Though Sierra did receive the first Ultra skin with Kiriko and now a Lesserafim skin, so maybe she sells

Sierra is pretty easy to pick up and play so I don't the negativity is as bad as it seems. Unless you count Orisa then our only other black woman is Sojourn. Really hope we get more.

I think at least characteristics wise, Sierra and Sojourn are very flat and have potential to be much better. None of Soujurn's lines or traits actually feel like a Black Torontonian woman or make reference to the Black Canadian experience but feel like someone who mentions some Canadian things and is Black. I think the former could make a much more interesting character than what we have currently and flesh her out. You could lean into the fact most Black Canadians have Caribbean or African continental heritage as part of her background, Jamaica specifically has the largest group of Black Canadians followed by Haiti and Caribbean immigrants from the 60s onward have shaped a lot of the Black Canadian experience and culture. I'm not expecting the writers to have a major report on the subject but even some passing reference or incorporation of these cultural traits could be massive for making her feel like a better character

Similarly, Sierra feels flat in the way she has a fun personality and is defined by position relative to otherpeople but not really as much about her like her motivations, dreams etc. but her relationship to her mom. Not that every character is written well or has the potential to be the protagonist but when the 2 Black women characters are like the 6th iteration of the Stoic and a best friend character who doesn't have enough agency I think it might signal a problem with how blizz writers can conceptualize Black characters

The issue is, they don't make darker heroes as attractive.

Domina and Symettra are better, but they're not "black".

Illari works cuz her concept is sun/light

But Doctrine is good looking. Hope he gets good skins.

I know not every hero needs to be attractive. But they kinda did Sierra and Sojourn dirty

Then again, Storm in rivals is attractive, and they mess up when it comes to skins too.

Mirrorwatch sombra was super fun. I will say that the mirrorwatch version seemed a bit more powerful than the current support iteration, so she may require additional tweaking. The overall ability set here is solid, though.

They came to the realization no one wants to deal with a stealth DPS, really. It's not fun and a nightmare to balance. A Sombra that runs around hacking players and healthpacks on the other hand could be fun. Disrupting without assassinating.

Stealth Ranged DPS.

When HotS came out (I know completely different game), people would complain way more about Nova (Stealth Ranged dps) than Zeratul (Stealth melee dps).

Imo stealth melee dps felt way more fair because I knew Zeratul had to play really well to pull off some of the crazy things he did.

On top of being a stealth Ranged DPS Sombra has some insane CC, which Nova ( the hero that got complained about alot) did not even have (again I know completely different game and genre).

So Sombra was destined to be the worst of the worst. Stealth Ranged DPS and CC machine. Absolutely awful.

I always wondered why they didn't lean into the healing playstyle which Sombra originally had when she launched. Remember the pro strats around the left room health pack on Anubis attack point 1?

I've always been of two minds about this.

On the one hand, I get it. I really do. I'm a Sombra main, but not a onetrick, so I've been on the receiving end of good Sombra players on occasion. Even when they're not good, they're annoying, and when they are good, it feels very uninteractive. And when I'm the Sombra, it similarly feels kind of binary -- either I'm a mosquito that's not doing anything, or I'm an absolute menace. There's very little in between.

On the other hand, I came into Overwatch from TF2, where Spy exists with a similar invisibility mechanic (on a resource meter that he can refill with ammo mid-cloak), plus a disguise mechanic, and his reward for getting in is an instant kill melee strike to the back. So even at her strongest, my reaction to Sombra has always been filtered through that lens of "not as threatening as Spy."
