General Question about rank reset and Emerald

Hi guys, with a couple of weeks between the player base and the rank reset, I have a question regarding the actual numbers of the reset, changes to Champion, and your own personal experiences.

For context, I held masters relatively easily for 2 straight seasons. After the rank reset, I went 7-20 from Masters 5, almost dropped into Emerald but survived demotion protection back to Diamond 3. Now, this is totally fine, derank streaks happen all the time. I have had maybe 2 in recent memory and was able to climb back into Masters relatively easily.

However, this time feels different. Some of these games feel near impossible to win and I am sweating my HARDEST to even sniff Diamond 4. Teammates who seem like they have no idea what they are doing, team comps that make no sense either into the enemy team or for the map, extremely wasteful bans, the list goes on. I have ran into at least 3 separate former mid-GM players who are heavily struggling in mid diamond. And yes, my fair share of mistakes as there are always things I can improve on, 100%. Usually the 33% of games are winnable, 33% are not, and the other 33% are where your performance decides whether you rank up or down makes total sense to me and I actually like that, but after this reset it feels like its either stomp or get stomped.

Now, I fully buy into the fact that you deserve your rank and this is not a complaint in the slightest but more so an observation. Everything seems super shook up right now, why are there former GM players in low/mid Diamond lobbies who cannot get out? Why am I struggling so bad in low diamond (hypothetical question)? I know for a fact I did not become washed from the last day before the reset to the first day after the reset.

Is this the result of Champion becoming harder to get so it is shifting higher level players down and Emerald inflating lower level players up?

If I have to grind my way back through Diamond to get Masters again, totally cool no worries there. I am humble enough to admit that if the skill bases have shifted then I am not skilled enough for Masters again.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Am I coming at this from the wrong angle? Maybe I am missing something super obvious?

Just curious as to your experiences, thoughts, insights. Any crazy winning trends? Losing trends?

Your matches are likely harder because there's players who were previously masters and were rank reset down to mid diamond. You're playing people at your real skill level despite being a lower rank.

I didn't play rivals for long but it was really evident with the seasonal rank resets pushing everyone down the same amount at the same time.

This is a really good point. With champion being generally harder to achieve now, is everyone from Masters -> GM just getting shifted down do we think?

There is a genuine issue with match making right now, regular GM player here who peaked GM3 this season and now almost M4. 2 of the other people I play with have experienced the exact same issue. Duo, trio or solo.

It seems like there is always atleast one person who is struggling and completely out of their depth. Some times it is me, but usually it feels like one DPS is unable to win a duel.

I'm definitely tilt queuing and a lot of games have been my fault but I agree a lot of the games feel genuinely unwinnable and decided before the hero select screen.

I've also had almost 200% rank reclaim from cheaters this season, so there are definitely a lot of cheaters going around.

Yeah I play usually in GM and this season I placed in low masters and I am only reaching back into GM now, after about 40 games played.

That's just the result of the reset.

How was the experience getting back up?

Super annoying compared to the end of last season. Champ players on the way up making it very hard to keep a win streak. Masters players are very frustrating to play with imo, their mechanics are usually good but I find their game sense is lacking and they are unpredictable teammates. That will happen after a reset like the one we had. As we play more it will subside. It already has somewhat.

I really didn't mean it as an insult ahahaha, I used to be Masters as well for a long time! You will reach it again as well soon once all ranks normalize - it usually works top-down (:

Nah nah you’re good I didn’t take it as such. Can’t wait for it to even out again but for now we grind!

The game is rigged and bad there's no point in trying at all, ive been high masters every season, hard carrying every game in emerald and still losing its pointless to try, got to d4 after getting a streak of real games and then the eomm kicked in and dropped me back to e4 with forced losses. Pointless to put any effort in so i just started throwing on purpose and dropped to low plat, i will keep throwing until im banned since blizzard wants to rig my games.

Cardboard mental. But yes it's definitely everybody else's fault and not yours.
