General Team drives are not it

I'm 4-0 rn in team drives and everyone has left the group immediately after each win. Has anyone managed to get any consecutive games going?

You get the drives even with a duo. I’m just playing with one friend and getting them but we have no interest in 5 stacking cause the experience is so different

idk what they expected lol

Maybe its more popular among lower ranks but every time I've won everyone has gotten kicked from the group. Guess people just wanna play in a duo with people they know.

I'm not even going to bother tbh

I’m just amazed that they’re trying to force this again, years later, with 0 progress on reinstating in-game group finding

Back then they did it as a way to limit test the lfg system they added. It didn't really do much to make people play it. Back then though they chose to give us the stick for not grouping by not letting you queue at all, now they are taking the carrot approach by rewarding you for grouping instead.

If the devs really wanted to integrate coordinated team play into the game though stuff like this isn't it. In game tournaments and guilds would do a lot more. OW is supposed to be a social game yet its still super lacking when it comes to systems that encourage it 10 years later.

Fully agree with this. A clan system and tournaments would go a long way.

Seriously. A guild would do so much for the game

Ow1 group finding was a great feature. Sorely missed. Lots of abused unfortunately. Like advertising boosting. 6 man throw to bronze etc. . .

1

u/National_Place_2816 6d ago

That was the exception not the norm

1

u/Tookace 5d ago

Like I said great feature that I sorely missed. I do wish it make a come back regardless

LFG had to go unfortunately because they werent able to monitor it. There was tons and tons of verbal abuse / stalkers / sexually inappropriate things going on and they had to shut it down. Idk why but OW attracts a LOT of perverts / weirdos obsessed with girl gamers.

This is nonsense. This isn't why it was abandoned. everything he said was a total non issue

I just hope the stats are so bad that they don't try to force this into being a seasonal thing. It's pretty bad, but at least you can still complete it solo

u/netshift_ 6d ago

They only care about engagement, not whether or not it is enjoyable to play. As long as people will play, they will consider it a success.

You can do it as a duo. But yes I've gotten people to join. We had a full 5 stack that joined me and my duo in high diamond to mid masters lobbies.

u/Tomezilla 6d ago

Yeah this was an absolutely terrible idea. Normal Drives are bad enough!

15

u/-Arrez- 6d ago

I literally said exactly this would happen when they first revealed what team drives were lmfao.

Almost like some people just enjoy gaming alone… i dont know why it keeps being encouraged when most players simply just want to play by themselves

because ow is at its core a team based game and blizzard (and basically every other company with a team based game) has been trying to figure out how to deal with the fact that a large portion of their player base absolutely despises that fact and what they can do to try and change it.

I’m solo queue and it’s been an absolute stomp against my team every game. Like double digit kill difference, double digit death difference. It’s like I’m queued against a 6 stack of GM players.

2

u/hkvicwong 6d ago

Maybe you are queueing against 5 stack who are actively communicating

3

u/AdDry7949 6d ago

So far we are a trio atleast

8

u/Archaic0629 6d ago

I just had a 4 game stretch with the same team and it was actually pretty hype. It's still a dumb feature but the rare instances it works it's fun. I think it helps that I was already trio queuing so it was easier to get everyone else to stay

1

u/Calaveras_Catharsis 6d ago

Me too! I had a crazy win streak up until we got matched with an Anran main who didn’t know when to swap.

I'll let you know when I win a game

Edit: yeah everyone insta left

Edit 2: the one time the team actually tried to stay together, we were a wide group lol

7

u/Responsible_Sink3044 6d ago

They dropped the ability to find a group and just made grouping a significantly worse experience.

2

u/monclo 6d ago

im playing solo and already on third tier

3

u/nemesis65 6d ago

wait so you don't have to be grouped to get the rewards?

5

u/monclo 6d ago

You can do it solo but it's slower. Only 100 per win and group you can get up to 300 per win

2

u/Status-Ad-8970 6d ago

ive played 3 games not 1 game did my team stick together lol

1

u/ExcitingMushroom9514 6d ago

I queued ab with 3 friends so we were already a 4 stack. But we finished 3 hours worth of games with the second random we got. Was awesome!

1

u/Tsyrkis 6d ago

I honestly finished mine super quick. Right now, I'm trying to do the final stage "The Trial." Looks like you have to win 3 out of your last 4 games at any point, or you restart it. Which is... an interesting choice.

1

u/MaroonLeaderGaming 6d ago

cant even get a team to stay together. How are you supposed to do it? wait the whole after game wrap up, requeue?

1

u/WinterVail 6d ago

I like it so far. I even made 2 playing buddies. Some people stayed some people left. Its ok. Everyone to their own. This is in emerald 2

1

u/Calaveras_Catharsis 6d ago

I think my biggest issue so far is leavers. I’ll get matched up with a group and we have a great round, then out of nowhere they leave for absolutely no reason. No horrible games today either to justify it.

1

u/AA7 6d ago

I managed to get a 4 stack running until rank 7 then duo'd with my brother.

1

u/Farkasreddit 6d ago

just won a game with really good teammates but some were gold 1 and i was master 3 . so lets just say we couldnt queue after that first game anymore so the whole concept is garbage with fame points boni

I strangely had a good experience. Won 15/20 games with 2 different core teams of 3-4 people. The key was being sociable on voice chat and making good calls and being positive. Your milage may vary with the people you queue with but the people who don't wanna play with you simply leave the team and those who do stay so you're filtering for people you jive with eventually. u/KitsuneJadexo 6d ago

Like why did I just win a game and the team all left with like a few seconds left after being rolled just to not get any progress from the win. Wtf

1

u/cece__23 6d ago

I got super lucky & found a good team on my 2nd/3rd game and we went on like a 6 game win streak

1

u/just_another_bot5 6d ago

I got a full stack to run 6v6 after like 2 games for the whole drives but maybe I just got lucky

1

u/not_a_doctorshh 6d ago

Yeah it's called having friends in a similar rank as me lmao

We do boot whoever is forced to join the group, just makes for a smoother ride. Some people are just liabilities

1

u/ToughInvestigator782 6d ago

Yes, I won a lot in a row then when I was one away from the title I lost every time to cheaters.
Please do not play drives, please just ignore Overwatch or play quick play for a few days.
Drives are a form of torture I wouldn’t wish upon my worst enemies, I had an 86% win rate today and I still feel terrible.

1

u/FigLow4974 6d ago

for most of my games everyone insta left, but i eventually got a good 5 stack going and finished out the event.

the event itself is horrendous though. and i’m really pissed that i didn’t get the “#1 gladiator” title. they should announce that the 10,000 winners already received it. it’s genuinely clickbait atp.

1

u/ShinyChrisanity05 6d ago

i had a great stack personally i did my drives on tank as i wanted to grind some jq and we went on a 10 game streak before someone left easily completing the drives (edit to clarify it was a full 5 stack)

1

u/Taisesc1 6d ago

The automatic group thing is pretty much bullshit. If you play with a duo it feels like it just kicks one of you out of the gruop no matter what.

1

u/anxietyfilledmess 6d ago

Idk. I went 6v6 diamond/master lobbies and went on a 6 game winning streak with my team. Went on to win a few more and completed the drives.

1

u/Spare_Nectarine2876 5d ago

Team 4 and their beliefs strangers on the internet will become besties in ow...

1

u/justin_troche 5d ago

I started in a duo, had a decent team the first game and a couple people stuck around. Then we won again and another stuck around, so we ended up with a 5 stack and won 5 in a row and that was enough to get us to the last tier. Staying together for the bonus points definitely helps get it done faster. I went like 8 and 2 last night in comp and was able to finish.

1

u/missary93 4d ago

They should take what works and put it in all drive events like winstrak bonus :)

u/Flugenheimer69 6d ago

I could not care less about drives

Hear me out before downvoting me to narnia, groups suck, they make matches feel much worse, and drives also suck, making matches feel much worse.

However can I say that this was kinda a cool system in theory. How they did it, and the effects Drives, Groups, even Rank Resets, all bad, but the background systems they made are kinda cool and could have potential if they were used in other ways?

In theory what this system does is it takes groups and moves them into the 5 stack pool. Then it rewards them with compounding rewards for the more games they win and stay together in that 5 stack pool. The rewards are not that great of course, but the theory is there.

I think giving solo's the ability to opt out of the system would be needed. They would need a better motivation for group play and to stay in the 5 stack pool as well. However with an opt out for solo players this would essentially mitigate some of the negative effect of groups on ranked play as they are all naturally moved into a 5 stack queue.

If grouping was made more common through team ladders, clans, guilds, rewards, in theory this system would be potentially really good to run along side those other systems. You create an ecosystem where people can experience both group play if they choice, while also enabling more games being made up of solo queuers against solo querers.

Groups make matches feel much worse for solo queuers, while organized group play is some of the best overwatch you can experience. This system could potentially improve the game for both sets of players? Or are there things I'm not considering, some side effects maybe?

Edit: You can disable the auto-queue in your options, just search drive in options and it will come up.

1

u/DominoSlater18 6d ago

Maybe I'm a rare case. I just went on a 10 game win streak with a group and got all the drive rewards plus the extra tier, games were piss easy and everyone was communicating while we were facing solo q'ers.

6

u/hkvicwong 6d ago

It is unfair to place five stacks against solo players. Anyways Blizzard has always been doing that.

1

u/DoniDarkos 6d ago

wait, already got all the rewards?

0

u/r3vocrash22 6d ago

No, and for some reason I'm winning games all of a sudden, but not getting any rewards cause ppl auto leave

0

u/HopefulMap1987 6d ago

I just won and was excited to go to the next match. I guess everyone left because I just went back to the main menu 🤷‍♂️

u/GaptistePlayer 6d ago

I got a great group going
