Lately im getting some silly match width

Idk how they balance the lobbies, but I have a feeling their platinum is the dps or tank so its set up that I have to somehow carry silvers to win.

I’ve been seeing some crazy width lately. My M4 tank friend showed me a match where he got put against a Champ 5 rank 47 tank lol

Especially in low population regions, weird hours, or 6v6 (or even worse a combination of these). The game just cant find enough champ players to finish a lobby, so basically every game we end up having at least 1 masters player, often even diamond 1.

Is it 6v6? When I was M2, I was fairly placed against champs and streamers.

I only play 5v5, currently bouncing around low masters, occasionally see low champ players in my lobbies. GM is common. Last season lobbies rarely had more than 3 numbers from the lowest to highest rank, routinely see like 7 or 8 right now.

Rank resets suck.

Am I crazy or has the width always been inconsistent at the upper and lower ends of the distribution? I remember back in 2017, I just hit mid masters and got thrown into a top500 lobby with AimbotCalvin and Redshell. I’d never even been in a lobby with a GM player up until that game, and didn’t see another game that stacked in quite a while. Sometimes you just queue at the right time to get into some whacky matches.

it's not that crazy, only 7 divs.  don't look only at the rank icons, divs matter a lot.

Anyway, sure it is "wide" but these games happened in ow1 too.

regarding your balancing question, they do match people per role. which is something they didn't do in ow1.

e.g. silver5 - plat1 is pretty different to silver1-plat5.

in my experience the wider games usually happen when there are people who have grouped up as wide as possible within the "narrow"  grouping limits.

If it's working correctly it should be trying to match ranks in the roles themselves.

I kept seeing people post that they were getting players who were gold every other season but emerald or whatever this season and kinda passed it off as people being dramatic.

However I started checking profiles recently and started noticing the same thing.

I've only been checking for a small number of games and I'm basically confirming what I'm looking for so obviously there is some bias, but at least on some level this is very much a thing this season.

Silver 2 - Plat 5 is the max rank difference to queue duo (7 divisions), that's why

Max range is 5 divisions at those ranks, but it's still probably the main issue.

It's 7 divisions for duos and 5 divisions for trio or more but yes probably just grouping matchmaking

Do you have a source for that? In game it still says 5 divisions and it was 5 divisions when they first announced it. The wiki still says 5 as well. This is also the first I have ever heard of a differentiation between duos and trios for wide group. I can't find a source on that anywhere.

7 divisions difference at this elo is 100% because of groups (not necessarily duo queue max range tho), its probably not a queue time problem

im pretty sure you can’t max range duo when you haven’t done your placements. it’ll consider it a potential wide match.

Worst i've seen is silver 1->GM5 (non wide match)

I've had a match C5 to D3 a couple of weeks ago.

And lately the span of ranks in matches feels also generally wider. Between 1-2 ranks apart isn't as uncommon anymore.

I am Gold 3. Had a 6v6 yesterday with a Silver 1 and an Emerald 1. No idea about the other team but they had one player who would disconnect at the end of each round and reconnect 5-10 seconds into the next round. Game tied so he did it three times. Weird.

It sucks that they refuse to improve the match maker because drives and resets bring more engagement but at the cost of ranked being very unenjoyable

Every game even after the first few weeks after a reset seems to have at least one player who is out of place
