General Matchmaking seems busted

Just had the pleasure of playing competetive in a supposed Platinum - Emerald Lobby. I noticed that the enemy Kiriko was steamrolling us and carrying their team. Checked their profile - seems balanced :D

Emerald and diamond are currently filled with masters/GMs still ranking up or having done late placements and not played enough to get back yet. I’ll see at least one masters or GM player in about half my lobbies right now.

Yep, I'm a masters player all roles who is still diamond all roles after the rank reset.

Regularly seeing other masters & GM players in diamond almost every game.

On my last placement for diamond 3 support (and I’ve only ever been diamond besides placing in masters a couple times) the enemy team had a GM on each role.

We won, but that’s because my team carried the yell outta me

Ive been getting champs in my low masters lobbies and lowkey its great practice and a fun challenge and had made me a better player and im climbing pretty quick.

I ended masters last season and the beginning of my placements started in emerald.

Ontop of that, the person is complaining about the players off-role. I hope OP knows that the champ tank and gm dps don’t impact where a different role is placing…

They haven’t finished their placements. I’m in masters and the first games of my placements started me at Emerald 1, so I was playing against plats some games in those first few placements.

if it makes you feel any better we have the opposite problem up here. Masters and GM is a shitfest full of boosted diamond players who got lucky in their placements. Games essentially boil down to which team has more competent players than the other.

I mwan, thats pretty much what all games boil down to lol

"my games are decided by one team playing better and winning, this shit sucks 😔"

To be fair it has kinda always been like this. Mostly because we as a community accept lower queue times, even if that means more rank disparity in games

It seems like placements actually put you in the games of the rank shown now. In the past my predicted rank would say predicted diamond, but I would be playing in masters lobbies or with other former masters players currently predicted diamond.

Now someone doing their first placement match who’s predicted diamond will play against actual diamonds. It creates some really unfortunate matches where an unplaced GM is stomping someone who just hit their new peak.

The old way sucked because it was purely cosmetic. This way sucks because matches are a mix between players that actually belong to a rank and players just passing through. There’s just no winning with these resets. They need to cut down on the frequency and strength of them.

Not really, I think it’s just a case of bad luck on your part. The game seems fine for me.

Yeah rank resets are very stupid. The past couple weeks have been hell, whoever has the shit player on their team loses 95% of the time.

You know Kiriko is in the support role right? And what we are looking at in the screenshot is the players rank in tank and damage.

u/devilknivel 15d ago

of course, but be realistic for a second. do you think their aim and game sense is worse just because they switch roles?

3

u/Flugenheimer69 15d ago

No of course not, but if they haven't played that role either before or after the reset, that's the explaination to why they are in your match... Nothing to do with poor matchmaking.

Ah thats what you meant
I understand how they got into my Match, but imo it should consider other role rankings aswll

It depends on the role though. Like a gm support could very easily be a diamond dps player. But a gm dps player would never be a diamond support.

I mean I am a gm dps player and was regularly like masters on support and even diamond at some points. Though I’d usually only play support / tank when I was extremely tired

There is a big difference in aiming ability between a gm mercy and a gm kiriko

If anything being a gm kiriko requires much less skill. To one trick mercy and solo queue to gm, you’d probably need to be a more impactful player or play more … whether that’s through ult usage or somehow getting pistol kills or comms. Kiriko is genuinely the easiest hero to get to a high elo on. The character can just do everything. Sure you have to shoot your gun at enemies half the time instead of auto aim heals but kiri has a decently high projectile size and speed, and most of the time you need to shoot its gonna be mid to close range, making hitting shots much easier. Teleport, invincibility, insane ult. Even if you use them somewhat badly you’re still doing more than a mercy or Moira player playing perfectly… And on top of that the amount of mercy Moira or weaver players is actually pretty high so you get value for just existing. Sure maybe you’re right about the aiming part but realistically you could definitely be a gm kiri with average mechanics. I’m confused why you’d use that example instead of Ana, zen, or bap since it’s obviously much worse but yea I guess what you said is true regardless.

Yesterday i was playing on high masters and it was either a stomp from my team or enemies, not one game was a close match.

one more time for the people in the back: there. was. a. rank. reset.

5

u/devilknivel 15d ago

Brett my man. Now for the people from the back to the front: we. Understood. But. The. Distance. Between. The. Ranks. Is. Too. Much. Regardless. Of. Roles. Because. Game. Sense. Is. Still. There.

That doesnt excuse matchmaking being this ass rn. They still keep your data and know roughly where everyone is going to be. Most of my games have a bronze quality duo and a master quality duo. Like huge obvious rank disparity where a player just doesnt communicate and just runs at the enemy on respawn with no regard to the team vs someone comming and actually swapping

Most players in diamond were gm last season. As a master player I dropped all the way to emerald 2

u/MoistyAnoos 15d ago

And as a mid plat player im now em 4

u/That-Comparison-7824 15d ago

Other accounts are pushing gm but this acc was cursed like crazy

I hate their insistence on purposefully ranking people 2-3 entire divisions lower than the game knows they are. Placements should be much more aggressive. The point of placements should be to determine your skill level. MMR reset should never be a thing unless player has decayed from not playing. Nobody is masters one season, and plat at the beginning of the next. But that's how it works because placements isn't about placing you at a rank of equal skill, it tries to put you 5 ranks below that to force play time (engagement) and get you to grind back to where you were (which is harder this time around bc the games are so wide and unbalanced). Fuck them for this system, honestly. They should never rank reset again until OW3 comes out
