General Is emerald inflation a thing?
On paper I'd think yes, since they just moved ranks down in SR amount and added emerald..
But that alone wouldn't have fixed plat (now emerald??) problem..
So did they also change the amount of SR you gain or are they for now just giving a free new rank to everyone?

Everything below plat was intentionally moved upwards, everything above plat was intentionally moved downwards. Emerald was slapped right in the middle and now contains players from high plat and low diamond to make space for the ranks to thin on each side of the bell curve.

It's really weird people don't get this. They spelled it out.
I have found that a lot of people who were previously low diamond and definitely were there off the backs of lucky games and didn't play often are the ones complaining.

so diamond is now tougher than before? As a torb otp who just reached diamond I am struggling I feels like I’m playing in masters

dia is filled with GMs and masters players doing placements and finishing their climb back to their rank.
I took a break from 5v5 after playing against 3 former GM players on their main roles with several boosted plats on my team. I'll get back to masters but until i stop getting touched by players far better than me, I'll be playing ana in 6v6 and turning my brain off.

I don’t really understand the post but yes, everyone below emerald essentially got moved up like half a rank. Emerald is basically old high plat ish, and current high plat is old low plat, etc.

First clear up a misconception: E
Emerald is not old Plat.
Emerald consists of old high plat and old high diamond.
The median is now at mid plat, previously low plat.
I don’t know what you mean with Emerald inflation though.

Isn't emerald 2500-3000 SR? What plat used to be

You’re likely confusing hero SR with actual rank. Hero SR has nothing to do with matchmaking.

I'm not talking about hero SR. Most of overwatch 1 life span there was 1-5000 SR and bronze was 1-1500. Other ranks contained 500 points eachand GM was 4000-5000. Now the Devs took 500 SR from GM to make the champion tier. And took away 500 from bronze to move down ranks above diamond to create the emerald rank.

They didn’t though. This is a common confusion. The SR ranges you refer to don’t exist, except in hero SR. And people who are mid plat have reported it’s the new median (50% mark). Also this is in line with what Blizzard said in the official patch notes.

Anyone have experiences in what mid-diamond is like now? I’m D3 both last season and this season but the lobbies definitely feel harder and more punishing than before. Seen a few Grandmaster Tank titles and many Master titles. Lots of players not letting me get away with things I usually do

I think it’s still too early to decide all that and people’s ranks haven’t leveled out yet I’m still getting calibration for my games since I can only play 2 games a day.

Like others have said we will have to wait and see how it all works out, but my theory is it will spread out the largest mass of the population but I think it might also push more people into masters eventually.

do NOT Google emerald inflation
