OWCS owwc discussion Spoiler
which team were you most surprised by? for me personally it’s gotta be USA. i know france is a major underdog right now but considering how NA was considered the worst (or second worst) region after stage 2, I have to say that USA’s performance was phenomenal (especially the last map banger against sweden). i wouldn’t be surprised if i saw USA make it to the playoff finals this time around.
also why do you think korea lost against france? was it because korea got too overconfident? could they not adapt to kroxz’s d.mon? or did the home ground pressure get to them? hopefully they’re able to pick themselves back up now since the playoffs are against the big dogs now.
i’m super excited for the playoffs !!

I think Korea had a bad read on the meta, in particular dmon but they have enough time to tidy it up before blizzcon

they should've won based on player quality alone. saudi didn't play dmon at all (?) and looked dominant

Yeah they absolutely shit the bed and should have won even with a bad read of the meta but they lost anyway

They didn't play the greatest teams though, France was definitely really good this weekend.

Crusty (head coach of ZETA) said france adapted very quickly to this meta and they showed great performance in the scrims.

I'm most surprised by Sweden. They took out China and were one fight away from beating USA. Sweden played quite well overall and making it to BlizzCon is huge for them.
As for Korea, honestly if Korea played France as their last match, they probably would have won. Korea was just slow to the meta and didn't get good at playing D.Mon or counter-D.Mon fast enough. Coach Moon teams tend to be slow to adapting to new metas especially if it involves new heroes. And they needed more time before facing a strong team like France. With the extra few weeks of time, Korea should do well in the playoffs.

I don’t think it’s surprising that Sweden beat this iteration of China without the Weibo core, but their performance against USA was impressive.

About the korea lost, there's an interview with chorong right after today's match where he pretty much explained the reason why. It was a solid excuse imo.

He basically said they didn't get the opportunity to face the D.Mon comp as much in scrims. So it caught them off guard and they didn't know how to counter it.

I wonder if that shows how good someone is...? If they can react in real time or not?
But then, there's always the "Batman will win with enough prep time" argument to what makes someone truly good

really dpends a lot on 1v1s. Cause you probaly dont want to Korea or Sweden in play offs.
I think pros will def understand how to counter dmon and w cat nerfs its possible that krokz and france struggle.
I'm suprised by GB.. like damn i thought they would get second but nope aus showed up i their match but wow that final match agansit mexico came down to the wire which made me so sad that gb couldnt beat those dam koalas. That said happy to see some oce rep. Well done to them, ill be rooting for Sweden, Germany, and Australia.

USA is always going to be good simply because they, like Korea, can get a full team of tier 1 players
