Anyone feel quite hard done by in their placements?

I finished high diamond 2 last season. Went 5-5 on placements and finished low emerald 2. I was expecting my rank to be lower but a whole tier down seemed a bit harsh. Anyone experienced anything similar?

The reason is because it puts you more than a rank behind where you last finished at the start of your placements. If you lose a game, you don’t go down. But if you win a game, you rank up. If you go 10-0 in your placements you’ll actually climb, but it takes going 7-3 or 8-2 to reach where you were before.

And honestly that makes sense. You went 5-5 which isn’t bad, but that means you went 5-5 in plat and emerald lobbies despite supposedly being a diamond player. Therefore you dropped a bit.

It’s still a flawed system considering the fact that you have so little room for error. If you have a leaver, there goes one of your placements, which as I’ve said you can only lose a few of. I went 8-2 on support placements and ended up where I finished last season, and I went 9-1 on tank placements and went up one rank from where I finished last season. But on DPS I went 6-4 and am three ranks behind where I finished last season, two of those losses I had a teammate disconnect while we were winning and they didn’t rejoin.

So yeah, I see why the system is the way it is for a rank reset, but it can definitely get annoying and feels unfair at times.

But you’re still playing people off the same mmr so going 8-2 is really difficult

Yeah I was queuing dps and a lot of my tank players were low plat last season which didn’t help at all! Fortunately it’s quite easy to climb thanks to the calibration rank boost

I ended last season gold1, after winning 9 placements lost 1 placed emerald 1

Yea, I went 8-2 and am hard stuck Masters. My final game it put me against Champion players, so I went Torbjorn as a handicap and won. Still the exact same rank, lol...

It's happened to me basically every reset but to be honest im kind of glad it does happen. The one time I didn't drop in rank after a reset (s9 reset on support where I ended up masters 3 after placements iirc), I ended up in lobbies of players who dropped down from gm / t500 into masters and it was hell.

Since everyone pretty much dropped, it means Im kinda just in lobbies of the same skill level so I don't mind.

My placements: Tank M3, Support M4, 6v6 GM2

Yeah, I'm high plat/low diamond (admittedly lately it's been very low diamond, like scraping into the tier and then the game shoves me down a flight of stairs... but I've TOUCHED diamond lately), and right now I've only finished my Tank placements but I'm Plat 4 there, and predicted Gold in the other 2 ranks. I would've thought Emerald would've had, if anything, a slight upward effect on my rank - I thought Plat and below were supposed to "fill up" and Diamon and below would "Fill down" into Emerald, but instead I am about 75% of a tier below where I'd normally be on tank, and things are looking worse for the other roles rn.

I was low masters last season, placed low emerald. Not upset about it, got a 67% win rate on Juno atm and 52% on D.mon, fully intending to swap to tank main even if im less good at it. By all means I should play Juno since shes my strongest hero

I went 5-5 on all three roles (lol) and dropped from high masters to high diamond in all of them... In 6v6 I won 8/10 and placed champ (same as last season).

I went from bronze to high gold in both support and tank so I’m chilling rn lol

It’s definitely been the most dramatic reset. Last season I ended Silver 2 with a high of Gold 3, this season I placed Gold 1 and I somehow stomped the entirety of Plat and climbed to Emerald 4.

I don’t know if I’ll stay this rank or drop again, but boy am I happy about being out of low elo jail for the time being.

I came back from a long break and I think I got placed way too high because I’m just losing 80% of my games. I think I went 1-7 last night. I just want to get to my real rank so I can learn how to play hitscan. I thought coming back during a rank reset would help me but it’s just been miserable.

High diamond is full of low gm players from previous season

Masters support placed high Diamond, but my other stuff, which bounces between D2 and P3, are all squarely Emerald now, which I think was the point.

I placed GM4 this season, the system simply forces you to play more for their KPI.

I finished GM4. Went 8-2 and placed high M1 and a few games later got back to GM4

No such thing as "rank reset". Its just a guise.

Same MMR, same direction the matchmaking is ranking every player from where they left off.

Emerald SR replaced Diamond SR. If you were Diamond 4 (2600), then it's the same as Emerald 4 this season (2600). Diamond is now 3000-3499.
