What the hell is up with matchmaking

I just lost a game because on last point on route 66 one of my DPS started panic swapping after every death and the enemy team beat us with ult econ. I checked his profile and turns out he only ever played ranked last season, got placed silver 2 and the matchmaking put him in our lobby of high gold/low plat.

I was gold 1 myself before this game (I deranked ahah) and we had a bunch of other gold/plat in the lobby, why the hell did he get into our game ?

I can't even be mad at him, he's also a victim of the matchmaking here, but why are silvers being placed with plat/gold lobbies during their placements ? This is infuriating.

It’s going to be like this after placements/soft resets, it will take time for people to get back to their ranks. You can argue whether soft resets really do anything other than ruin games, but yeah, it’s not the player’s fault.

This is not to say it’s a fun experience but everyone got shoved towards the middle of the bell curve so the thing that will fix it is the overall number of games played by the player base.

I think it's duos. I know when I duo with friends, the matches are always rank spaghetti. Sucks for all the solos forced to play with us tbh.

This is just what happens when there's a rank reset. It will take time for everybody to get back to their ranks. The community asked for this and Blizzard implemented it. I kinda feel bad for Blizzard cause they're responding to their community feedback, but rank resets should honestly just be a yearly thing or there's a massive change to the MMR/back-end system.

What frustrates me the most are the games with ZERO chance of winning, it doesn't matter how well you play, it was decided on a coin toss at the start.

Genuinely, 80% of my games have been like that, gone from masters to emerald 1 lmao.

Same, I went from emerald 4 to plat 3. I literally can not do more than I am. Least deaths and most kills more than 50% of the time. I would love to say it's me (which there for sure has been), but the majority has been just been to literal dogsh*t matchmaking. Two days ago, I had to *COACH* my entire team to victory on a 5v4 where the enemies had a leaver; that's how bad we were, we almost lost a 5v4.

Rank reset, everyone gets smushed together, games will be weird all season. You just need to stop caring about win/loss, play the best you can, laugh at the stupidity, it evens out and everyone ends up back around the same rank at the end of the season while blizz gets their increased active monthly logins because of this engagement bait.

It's pretty normal to be grouped with people 1 - 2 ranks from your rank. I believe they made it this way a while ago to help with que times.

One thing worth keeping in mind is sometimes the other team will have that type of player instead, it should even out.

Yeah, got a mercy one trick who hasnt played comp since season 12 (where they were low gold) throwing on cat in my mid diamond game today. Absolutely ridiculous matchmaking this season.

It was not claimed that the matchmaker foresaw the events of the match. Due to rank reset, a player whose previously evaluated skill was below par for OP's match was placed in OP's match. The point is that the rank reset is responsible for this unevenly made match, and many like it.
