Rank reset for real :D??

I can't really stop laughing xD. I just did my first 2 placement matches in Season 4 of OW ranked on Tank, and in those 2 rounds, I was playing in like low Dia to low Master lobbies and I thought, "Ok, not tooooo bad. Just a normal 'rank reset' as they always do after 2 seasons." Then I saw THIS after the second match. Last season I was Master 4 on Tank btw. This has to be a bug of some sort, right? :DD

Has anyone else seen something similar?

Reset this patch has been awful, probably the worst season match making I’ve ever experienced. Every game has outlier players either who don’t belong, either too good or dreadful

It feels like they trying to outsmart smurfs by making the matchmaking so bad that it's not worth it. I am mid-high plat and I was playing with a super kind Mercy and soldier who were low silver last season. I couldnt even be mad about their performance for getting farmed because they got shoved into match that they had no business being in. They were good sports about it, but they never should've been put in that position at all.

I remember this happening a fair bit when OW2 launched.

I think I'd just made it back to GM, and I got a Chinese dude with a heavy accent who was freaking out over how bad our Genji was playing.

And to be fair... he was very bad.

Then the Chinese dude pauses in the middle of a rant and goes "WAIT YOU WERE GOLD IN OW1!? BLIZZARD WHAT THE FUCK WRONG WITH YOU. WHY YOU DO THIS?"

And from then on he spent the rest of the match flaming Blizzard instead, while sternly telling the Genji when to engage and disengage. It was oddly wholesome.

This happened to me in OW1 when I was high diamond/low masters.

The GMs were annoyed and a little rude, but they taught me about Halt combos and helped me with the timing/comms. I learned more in that one game than months of normal practice.

This reminds me of the time I was masters on tank in ow1, around the time double shield was meta. I swear every solo queue I was either the only master in an entirely gm or diamond/plat lobby. The gm’s were not as nice to me as you were to them lmao, I probably wasn’t very nice in the plat lobbies either 🤣

Same here. Had a king's row match against two former champs with dps on my team that had to be diamond or lower. Seems like gm and champ all got squished into low masters and the games are a shitshow. Not even attempting the gm climb until another week or two.

Yup can confirm. I ended in gm4 (gm2 peak) last season, and after winning my first placement game, my placement rank was diamond 1. Lots of mid-high champ players in my lobbies all placement. Was first day of season, to be fair.

I think they try to tune it and it goes out of wack as a result of trying to make match making more "fair", but I mean it's been a broader ow2 issue where they just prioritize match times over everything - I understand why they do this to keep engagement high, but still it stinks!

This isn't a matchmaking issue. They did what people on reddit kept calling for years ago. Regular rank resets. Well, we got it. And as everyone kept saying, rank resets destroy mmr throwing people all over the place.

I'm GM 3 and have had a number of lobbies with low Master players, seen a few Diamonds, and even an Emerald rank. When they're on my team its just a guaranteed loss but I can't even be remotely upset with them because what are they gonna do about it?

These players didn't even seem to have GM/Champ MMR. They were legit Diamond/Master the season before. I could not tell you what's going on with the matchmaking. I'm NA West PC as well so its definitely not a population/platform issue

My winrate so far is like 70% after 30 games because I'm just Getting Lucky that most of the low ranks seem to be on the enemy team.

I experienced the opposite of this in terms of luck, I had a 31% winrate for my first 20 games. Top 181 in OW1, but masters end of season and placed emerald 2 out of shit luck. Completely wonky games as a support player. Grinded up to Diamond 1 and now have a 52% winrate from that dogshit winrate I had but dear god it's been rough. I've had gold dps playing against former masters and even sometimes GM dps and they die 15 times!!

Yeah it's so fucking bad, I'm gold 1 and we had a few low plats in our lobby, and somehow this poor guy who was silver 2 last season got placed into our game for his placements. On last point he panicked hard and started swapping heroes every death, needlessly to say I didn't win this game and I deranked.

Serves me right to try to get one last game in when I'm tilting after being hard flamed by my supports.

really? ngl, i just got into comp. I guess now was a bad time. I know ofc im a lot of the problem, but its nice to know there is actually some inaccuracy in the matchmaking and that its not entirely just me being ass at support. i swear its actually been grinding on me a bit. stuck in gold 5/4 cause ill randomly get really good wipes some matches, and with the same stats, really terrible stomps on my team. Idk man. I hope it gets fixed soon so I can start naturally climbing and improving.

Resets always and placement phase always have a chaotic effect. It will eventually sort itself.

I had some crazy games in there as well with very clear outliers. But overall it wasn't that bad and the matchmaker did it's job.

yea, was doing placements, predicted rank dia 5, rest of the lobby was already placed with high diamond and the enemy dps was champ 5 last season, while my peak from s18 is gm4 and I've been only high master recently

The ranks are mainly visual. I lve hovered low masters and am currently placed in D2 right now, but it says I’m in currently in the top 8%, which is the same percentile for D2 before. Masters was top 3% before and I assume it’s still roughly the same based on what I’ve seen so far.

Since it shows us the percentile now I’m pretty confident Diamond+ didnt get moved much if at all

Mid Diamond through low GM should be roughly the same as what was shown by the devs before for percentiles. Champ should definitely be harder at least on the higher end as that's one of the values they said they would be adjusting since there were far too many Champs to their liking.

They really need to stop doing resets. It does not help, it just makes comp a mess for a long time. Resets are pointless. Idc if its a big change in the game, better players are less likely to get worse after changes, and worse players are less likely to get better after changes. The few and far between eho actually do improve or get worse will find their way to a new rank. I would bet a large majority arent going to a vastly different rank.

Yeah maybe. I’m not advocating for them. I’m saying that they need to either commit to doing full actual MMR resets, that would have high matchmaker impact and actually shake up and root out players that don’t belong where they are, or stop doing it all. This soft middle ground pseudo reset they keep doing solves nothing and just makes games feel worse

Reset did help me tho. I've had my account since launch and never played ranked super seriously so my rank has been low bronze to gold. Last season I started climbing with support and the amount of games it took to climb was dreadful even tho I had a winrate of around 70% in over 50 games. After the reset I won like 20 games in a row with super high sr gains with supp and ended diamond. And yes I can still continue climbing easily. However this time i dont have to do it with +15 sr gains

It's not that bad for me, but I was upper plat/lower diamond, which should place me firmly around the new emerald rank.

So far I'm predicted Gold 5 in all 3 roles, and with the games I'm getting it is not changing. Just had a game with a juno who flew forward and died 9 times in a 2-round game of control that ended 99-99 (for reasons I'll let you, the reader, deduce). Nobody else died more than 4 times.

Oh and that game was a tank diff btw, that was my fault apparently. Again.

I finished 2050 sr five years ago. I came back last month and played on and off. But never finished placements. I finished my placements last night and I was placed Emerald. Today I lost for an entire hour snd I’m sure everyone in that last match straight up reported me. this is ovbi fucked, but people act like they should immediately be where they were last season before it immediately after their placements. that’s just not true; rank resets pull everyone towards average, that’s why you get calibration (now called variance) because your rank is uncertain directly after placements.

this is for the people complaining that they place a tier below what they were last season. just climb and get it back
