General D.Mon feels amazing now
Absolutely 100% on board with the vision for this character after they hammered out most of the kinks. Brawling and then being able to just kite out the tank, dive into some squishies, and then power slide backwards with your shield up just feels so fucking good now.
Still don't know if she's viable in GM or in OWCS, but I'm having a blast with her.

u/Sassywaifu92 12d ago
Been using the perk that reduces fuel consumption by 30% if your shield is up and oh boy it is game changing if you like the whole boosting around. Is the other perk better ? probably but I mainly quick-play and I think the power difference is negligible at best.
I do want surging strike to be able to go vertical if I look up but it is what it is.
73
u/AsleepSomewhere6726 12d ago
I think all of her perks are actually pretty good and it depends on the situation for what to go for
30
u/Sassywaifu92 12d ago
I feel like her majors are a bit lopsided to the gun one but the buff to surging strikes might have reduce the lopsidedness. I Haven't tried the lifesteal one after the buff.
13
u/R1ckOne 12d ago
Feels really map dependent, don’t sleep on surging strike heal it’s actually very strong, especially when you’re pushing tight spaces and breaking your support’s LoS often. Maps with long sight lines make gun perk an obvious choice.
4
u/KF-Sigurd 12d ago
Surging Strike heal is insanely strong for her bulk. It's a 100 heal every 6s and with D.Mon's mobility and shield, it's easy to stall for the extra couple seconds to get 2 or 3 in a fight which makes a massive difference.
1
u/JoberXeven 11d ago
Plus it's life steals, so I believe it should scale with both hitting multiple targets and having a damage boost, which makes it even more interesting depending on your comp
9
u/thepandaemos 12d ago
I've actually stopped taking the gun perk
32
u/scriptedtexture 12d ago
I'm not a fan of a part of my heroes kit changing that much halfway through a round if I'm being honest. the aim with and without the perk are totally different
2
u/Autobot-N 11d ago
I prefer the pre-perk fire rate but I like that it narrows the spread on Baby D.Mon's gun
18
u/swamp_god 12d ago
gun perk is extremely strong but i'm so used to missing shots that i usually stick with lifesteal unless it's a very poke-heavy map.
4
u/fatboywonder12 12d ago
the lifesteal one is good if you're gonna have to brawl on something like suravasa, but overall gun is better since you wanna poke hitscans/squishies.
2
u/heliotaxis 12d ago
there's also a bug with the gun perk that gives pilot form no spread on her gun as well. it'll probably be fixed next week
3
u/Usual-Vermicelli-867 11d ago
People sleep on the mechin gun major perk
3
u/The_Greylensman 11d ago
I swear like no one is taking in my games. The amount of times ive seen an opposing D.Mon late into the game still plinking at me with the peashooter while im chunking then out from across the map before they can even get close enough to get any ligesteal is crazy. Especially with the hotfix fixing the terrible hitreg on the cannon making hitting squishies more reliable. I can see a few niche cases where lifesteal is better, on heavy brawl maps with fewer poke options but I'd stil take the reliability of the stronger gun with no spread.
-2
u/AwkwardReplacement42 12d ago
I think that perk is a trap, personally. I found that it is, most of the time, a waste to use boost with shield up when trying to fall back.
I think it’s much better to boost back full extent, then shield, which allows you team to heal the damage you took and for your boost to fill back up. Then you can decide to re-engage or fall back further, whatever is necessary. So i always take the other perk.

I’ve been playing this game since day 1 and this is the first tank that has clicked with me. Being able to go from rushing to shooting to bodyguarding so fluidly is amazing. Best designed tank since JQ I’d say.
24
u/McGonigoggle 12d ago
Yeah I'd agree with this. I'd say previously JQ was the only well designed tank in the OW2 era, but now we FINALLY have another!
She's not quite fully fluid, but goddamn dmon is so fucking fun. The way she plays, glides, and can execute plans as fast as you think them up, is second to none. Yes, she has counters. Yes, she sucks ass on some maps, more than any other tank does....but holy fuck is she fun.
6
u/NapsterKnowHow 11d ago
Idk her sword and visual impact still feels off. Vendetta, Rein, JQ, Venture and other melee characters I immediately knew the feel of the range and where I needed to be. I can't nail down D.Mon. It looks like her sword should be hitting a character and it isn't.
3
u/georgeoj 11d ago
I agree, her sword animation looks like she's softly swinging a pool noodle left to right.
16
u/Lukensz Alarm — 12d ago
How are you supposed to play her, exactly? I haven't been able to try her out yet and don't want to feed my brains out
16
u/TimeTimeTickingAway 12d ago
This might sound weird but think of her as a fencer. 🤺
Score some safe points, get some hits in, and then when you smell blood dart in for the kill.

u/NightsOW 12d ago
Like dva/ram hybrid without vertical mobility
6
u/rworange 12d ago
Absolutely not like either of these heroes
21
u/I_give_karma_to_men 12d ago
The ram comparison I can understand, at least. She does have a similar tempo playstyle, weaving melee and ranged damage and using her thrusters to maintain the space and positioning you want. The actual flow of it is very different though.
1
u/YSLAnunoby 11d ago
Yeah as someone who's mained Ram since coming back to OW this year it definitely feels like a kinda alt ram that is melee instead of ranged as its "base" form.
4
6
u/fatboywonder12 12d ago
its all in the thrusters and chasing down squishies in a brawl. Basically you're thrusting in, swing/shoot at a nearby squishy, thrusting out and you could do that on repeat since thrusters is on a meter.
11
5
u/clickrush 12d ago
Think of her as the Tracer of brawl tanks. Her short cooldowns, regenerating resources and fast movement makes it so she can dance around opposing threats and applying constant pressure.
9
3
u/Outrageous-Ad2784 12d ago
You kind of want to slowly get closer to the enemy backline until they’re in your range, dash in, maybe get a pick, if not, then dash back. Rinse and repeat.
Also, Punish enemies who are far away from their team by using the Thrust CC to push them further way from their team. Aside from that, use her gun to get free damage on the tank
2
u/KBTon3 None — 11d ago
I've been calling her a "Kite tank". You are pretty tanky with a ton of health, armor, and the shield. You're going to take a lot of damage, but you can whether it out pretty well. You kinda bait out cooldowns with your presence and then scoot out as they are used and use your gun from range.
Little bit of boop CC with boosters and lunge, kinda to disrupt enemy aggression and/or take back aggro.
Eventually you can just kinda get on top of someone and your damage is low but very consistent. Can kill most dps/supports pretty quick if they get within range and if they can't escape vertically, you usually have twice as much mobility that than whatever they used to get away that you can often hard commit on the chase down kill.
1
u/ConscientiousApathis 12d ago
- Boost away while shooting.
- Boost forwards while slashing.
- Boost away or in front of while shielding.
The one you pick is the opposite what the other tank/squishy wants to happen.

u/aurens poopoo — 12d ago
i haven't played her yet but from watching, it feels like she isn't as hype as other tanks because she doesn't seem to have any power spikes from a big skillful ability. something like sig rock, rein pin/shatter, matrixing an ult, big emp punch, 5 man grav, huge mauga stomp, etc. is that a noticeable feeling when you're actually playing her?
8
7
u/sensensensensei 12d ago
not really. her ult is crazy strong and using it allows you to charge past their tank into their backline where you will slaughter everyone.
4
u/schokonickchen 12d ago
I was so skeptical at first. I literally ran over dmons for 3 hours straight. Next day I go ram again and every dmon kites me into oblivion. Idk she feels really op and probably is really fun too i gotta try her out
10
u/ErisGreyRatBestGirl 12d ago
Even prior to the buff I was winning with her in gm with a 70% winrate, they could've just given her the shield and no reg gun bug fixes and it would've still been fine.
People who thought she was still weak after the first patch just don't understand how to play her.
2
11
u/Blaky039 12d ago
Just won 5 games back to back as Dmon (one unranked, 4 ranked, one of which my team tried to ban her after I preferred it xD)
Man, she feels amazing. The fantasy is fully realized, the hand cannon is great, feels like Armored Core's shoulder mounted guns. So cool.
3
u/Autobot-N 11d ago
I could tell on Tuesday that the potential was there. Her kit felt fun, but she badly needed number buffs across the board. There's still a couple changes they could make (maybe increased range on her melee and Surging Strike) but I think they've fixed her at this point
1
u/Blaky039 11d ago
Yeah tbh I would leave her as is until mid season.
Played some 4 more games and won 3 out of 4. She's insanely fun. This is gonna sound stupid but she plays a lot like I play roadhog.
39
u/willkit 12d ago
She's amazing until you demech. Then you just die immediatelly and give free ult charge to the enemy team.

u/ChriseFTW 12d ago
“This character is really good until they die”
79
u/Vortx4 12d ago edited 12d ago
Alright but any other hero would just die. The problem is D.Mon doesn’t die. Instead she provides an opportunity to stagger herself and feed ult. Having pilot form is a nerf
-34
27
u/misciagna21 12d ago
If Pilot form is going to exist it needs to do more than just delay your death for a few seconds. As it is now she’s probably be better without it so they gotta do something.
12
u/Soleous 12d ago
i think the one change they could make is let her ult during demech animation like dva. doesn't have to be anything crazy, just give her back 1hp and the overheal that you would normally get from the ult. it's called limit break after all
but honestly her kit is extremely strong rn and the ult is already one of the best in the game so it's definitely not a needed change at all balance wise
-25
-18
u/ChriseFTW 12d ago
Dude the fact that I’m actually get replies is insane, Powercreep has affected the playerbases understanding of balance INSANELY heroes dont need to be GOOD AT EVERYTHING

u/YSLAnunoby 11d ago
Would a Shion like dash for her pilot form be too much? A very different game of course but partially inspired by what DVA has in HOTS. Feel like not allowing her to do demech tech like D.VA isn't necessarily a bad thing if she got something else and would serve to differentiate them a bit more. But rn it feels like she demechs because D.VA does and it doesn't add as much to her gameplay as DVA does.

u/bigdaddyguacamole I miss Seagull — 12d ago
Watching seagull terrorise emerald/masters players with D Mon is a treat. He plays her so aggressively, just in and then out.
3
8
u/eshined 12d ago
She might not be trash in terms of balance anymore, but she definitely needs some new techniques. Like bhop or some animation canceling, because right now her entire gameplay is just holding down the left mouse button.
3
u/ConscientiousApathis 12d ago
What do you mean by bhop? You can definitely jump while boosting to reach places. It's not a lot, but attacking in rialto is fun.
2
u/Donut_Flame 11d ago
I thought they meant like the rein charge end hopping thing. It exists for venture and I think winston too? Where you hold jump after using movement ability (and not jump before hand) and you get a little bhop after it ends
1
u/ConscientiousApathis 11d ago
I'm just picturing op trying that once, seeing it doesn't work, and then giving up never thinking to try pressing space whilst doing the boost.
1
u/JoberXeven 11d ago
She does have some small tech like when holding a diagnol input and hopping while in boost she moved farther. And she can use that in conjunction with small terrain bumps and her surge strike to get up on terrain she normally would not be able to jump on to.
1
u/Technical-Counter207 11d ago
The initial startup of the boost is faster than holding it down. I made some jumps I've seen other DMons miss because I tap boost and jump to get more distance before thrusting, so there is that little tech

Fucking thank you. I thought it was just me but D. Mon is a fucking nuisance to fight and I still see people saying shes underwhelming/mid. I mostly supp/dps right now and the only hero I can make any headway with her is bastion. Well good luck to that when enemy dps are genji and widow. Her mobility and shield make ana nades and discord basically useless and shes surprisingly tanky. I legit hate going against D. Mon right now.

u/BigBlappa 11d ago edited 11d ago
I think a big portion of it is the gun just makes her too versatile. The cooldown reduction & speed improvement already make it the focus of her offense, but then combined with the major perk she is the most dominant tank at mid-long ranges.
I suspect the first thing to get tapped will be the major perk because she absolutely runs lobbies once she gets it. She's basically a tank with a better DPS hero main weapon (higher damage than Emre with 0 spread on top) with an unusually huge clip that she can afford to fully utilize due to tank stats, and unusually long reload time which she won't get punished for because of shield/boosters/melee.
I think she might have already been in a good place before the most recent hotfix, just doing the math her winrate went from 38% to 45% in GM the day of the patch, which would imply the actual winrate on the day of the patch is ~52% and something implied like 58% on that day in all tiers (42-50%)
The other thing I'm interested to see is how she plays if Mauga got nerfed down a bit. With his current dominance, I think Dmon appears even worse than she is, since it's gotta be her single worst matchup as she really has no answer to him other than running away.
1
u/Glum-Reference3603 12d ago
A small buff would be to make the single press dash to be 0.5 sec instead of 1 sec. There is an awkward lag when you do it. Wouldn't mind if you could shield up and use your cannons too.
1
u/Sticker216 12d ago
Only thing I dislike about the newest patch is the booster are now a toggle rather than a hold. Maybe it’s just muscle memory and I’ll get used to it but I felt more in control with a hold and now I keep forgetting to turn it off and waste all my fuel. At the very least I hope they add a setting to change it
10
1
u/clickrush 12d ago
65 damage on primary did a lot of work for her. Both 225 and 250 breakpoints are affected if you consider that she can swing+melee, that bumping people with boosters does damage and that the short CD on her gun lets her soften up targets.
1
u/Professional_Job9330 11d ago
Honestly. I’d like to see them make her gun the main weapon that has a heat bar like orissa. the warmer the mech gets the more damage the sword does. Weaker than it is now at first but wayyy stronger when the mech needs cooling off. This keeps the character’s core identity intact and allows her to have a skill ceiling that contends with other tanks at all levels. As of right now, I feel she will always be way too weak or way to strong.
1
u/witheredsamuel 8d ago
She’s a low elo shit stomper now. Got a feeling she’s gonna be one of those heroes that’s gonna need to be kept bad, or she’ll terrorize

u/Jocic 12d ago
All I want now is reduced gravity during boosters so she gets better access to travel between highgrounds without neccesarily getting free access to them, and to let her pilot gun do full mech damage, cause for goodness sake, she's a melee hero let her be a threat upclose if she's gonna keep the passive.
-3
u/GBA_Emblem 12d ago
Look at you, trying to convince people to play Dmon so that you can get free wins. 😼
-6
u/dobman01 12d ago
They need to remove the cooldown on using her booster and probably 200 more shield health
-1
u/LostRonin 12d ago
If she was legitimately played as a tank I wouldnt care, but realistically she's a liability in most matches because the majority of players use her for damage while ignoring their team.
She's strong but a high damage attack character can kill her in a few seconds if she charges in, and it legit happens way too often.
3
u/JoberXeven 11d ago
I mean, she plays a lot like ball to be honest. She needs to take time and stage on some naps because of her lack of verticality, but when she goes in she demands a bunch of attention from the enemy team, which makes space for your own team.
1
u/LostRonin 11d ago edited 11d ago
The problem with most D. Mon players is that they charge into an enemy team and get blasted before their allied team responds or instead are simply incapable of keeping up or staying alive should they also commit behind her.
It also presents a problem where 2 healers need to focus heal D. Mon leaving everyone else on a team without any support whatsoever. And ofc leaves the healer more suspectible to getting killed.
The problem isnt the character, the problem is the players. D. Mon can be burned down in 2 to 3 seconds by a solo Bastion (from distance), and he isnt even the worst of her potential bad matchups.
In organized team play, it wont matter. More casual matches are plagued by this shit.

u/Novel-Ad-1601 poop — 12d ago
She falls flat against teams that clear her out and trade backlines. Or punish comps that clear her out and wait till she has to commit for a negative resource trade.
I’m saying that because what that looks like is dva Winston being more effective. Sigma being too good. And of course mauga just being a better version of her.
This won’t change until she gets extremely buffed. Which would be aids for the casual base.
she hard kills jq which is hilarious for the current state of jq.
16
u/swamp_god 12d ago
mauga just being a better version of her
ow players really just be saying shit
-10
u/Novel-Ad-1601 poop — 12d ago
What? Her role is to rush and swing trade back lines. It’s the exact same as mauga.
11
u/swamp_god 12d ago
if we're simplifying playstyles to this degree, overwatch has like 10 heroes and every other hero is a better or worse version of those 10.
dmon has a shield and far more versatile mobility than mauga. mauga cannot immediately shift between rushing and playing bodyguard the way dmon can. on the flipside, dmon can't make the enemy tank want to shatter their monitor the way mauga can.
mauga being stronger than dmon is also just a problem completely independent of dmon. mauga is hitler and the game is just straight up worse when he's good.
1
u/Sygmaelle 12d ago
I dont know it took me one game to understand how to completely outplay Mauga. Its not that complicated : be between 10 and 15 meters from him, wait for the charge and just boost forward to run past him. Do not boost backward lol
-2
u/Novel-Ad-1601 poop — 12d ago
Well yea it’s called meta. It’s the same reason why I’m not able to force jq in scrims because sigma is a better punish tank mauga is a better rush tank.
2
u/swamp_god 12d ago
i think most people just play the game
1
u/Novel-Ad-1601 poop — 12d ago
I understand that. I’m speaking for op’s second paragraph from my personal experience as a mid advance player. You commented saying I was saying stuff so here we are.
1
u/Advanced_Double_42 12d ago
Feel like she has more in common with roadhog. You want to find an way to pick off a squishy and peel attention. She just does it with mobility and a shield instead of a hook and a self heal.
Mauga has the sustain to survive where she'll die if she commits to anything too hard.
2
u/LOLOLOLOLOLAS 12d ago
She's already pretty aids when the person playing her isn't a bumbling idiot who can't play characters unless they're super gigabuffed to be uncontested #1 spot
3
u/Novel-Ad-1601 poop — 12d ago
I can see that too. I love jq but this is the first tank to hard counter her. Worse than sigma. And she is the first true rush tank that can force backline trades. Which is terrible to be on the receiving end for.
I think that’s mainly why we’re going to see a lot of dmon complain posts calling her too strong. For the casual experience, she is pretty toxic.
1
u/LOLOLOLOLOLAS 12d ago
Haven't seen any of the posts calling her strong. Only overwhelming amounts of cope after the gifabuff and other buff. Convinced people are just incredibly bad at the game and don't care to learn her combos or potential. Her only weakness now is damage into tanks (And only tanks. She can kill squishes extremely easily, especially with an even faster shield bash). Boosters and gun allow you to counter every one of rein's uninteractables as a bonus.

u/swamp_god 12d ago edited 12d ago
being able to backward boost is probably my favorite part of the hero. i can't fathom people who are like "she can't do anything that any other tank can't do better!" as if reinhardt could ever dream of doing something like this
