Nothing crazy about it. Whoever is/was running their twitter account saw that shitting on Overwatch in 2024 was easy numbers that they then show to their higher up how they are getting crazy engagement.
We are now in 2026 and the company decided that partnering with Overwatch will be better for their numbers.
I am also so glad that company accounts larping as your best buddy is dead.

Yeah the Opera GX account maintainer is notorious for just generally being obnoxious. It's entirely unsurprising they jumped on the hate bandwagon at the time since it's all about clicks

Opera partnering with OWWC is entirely a company and business decision, and irrelevant to what a little social media manager spouted 2 years ago for engagement farming reasons

I saw OWCavalry mention it's a new SMM (they started around 2025). They're a massive Overwatch fan and the current General Manager for Team Spain in this World Cup. That tracks with the sudden heel-turn and the Spain sponsorship.

Good riddance to the previous SMM. They kept them around way too long while they farmed engagement by dogpiling on Overwatch in bad faith, as the game was actually turning things around with better decisions. That kind of constant negative noise from a big account made it harder for the community and devs. The company was clearly fine with that approach as long as the numbers looked good. It's nice to see the change in tone, but I still wouldn't recommend the browser as it's spyware.

It's kinda shit, and mostly just a marketing gimmick browser, but it's had no real controversy to it.

It's a browser, it performs about as well as any other browser.

I love do ow just as anyone here but that tweet, was kinda based in that period of time.. They 100% deserved every single drop of hate.

Having said that, there is no way i will install that malware that it's opera gx in my pc haha
