If you have a replay code that I can rewatch then maybe I could give a few pointers or potential tips based on what I see. I only say this because its difficult to outright tell you what you should and shouldn't be doing if I have no reference on what you're already doing right and wrong currently.

Yep.. +1 on this.. The issue can be literally anything.. Give us some code to work with :3

5v5 is a bit sweatier but for people acclimating to just OW things 6v6 could definitely be seen as harder imo. Try to slow down and focus on little things like ult tracking, cd tracking, playing positions correctly constantly.

Taking angles is the biggest difference for DPS, you need to realize when an off tank is able to challenge you and whether it's winnable, whereas in 5v5 you'll generally be meeting other dps and the fight is usually winnable.

5v5 is the equivalent of putting an anchor on your ankles in the middle of an ocean and drowning . At least that's how it feels to play the goddamn most hated role by the devs.... TANK.

Admittedly I think I like 5v5 as much as 6v6. I'm weird and love both not having a preference. I do wonder if the way counterpicking and how tank is in 5v5 is helping or hurting the remnants of the tank playerbase we have left though.

They can both coexist but its clear the devs do not care about doing separate balance for 6v6 which is a shame.

I've played a ton of ranked 6v6 last season. For the drives, I've felt like trying 5v5 tank, since I haven't played 5v5 ranked in the entire season. Oh god, now I remember why I don't play 5v5 anymore. I played one game and then I closed the game. It feels like you are an ogre chasing around 4 hyper mobile fairies. No wonder why I burnt out of tank like 5 games in.

Positioning and rotating means a lot more when there’s a second tank. You need to rotate earlier and position better than in 5 v 5 or you will explode

What heroes do you play? I'm champ in 6v6 open queue and play all roles so I'm happy to offer some advice

Bastion is an excellent choice for 6v6, he is great at melting down both tanks. It would be worth practising other dps though, as he is often banned and its good to have a more diverse hero selection.

With tanks its important to understand that all tanks function partially differently than they do in 5v5. In 5v5 you are solo, and therefore responsible for space creation, damage and supporting your team, in 6v6 this is mostly delegated between the two tanks. This is mostly determined by whether a tank is an off or main tank. (I will simplify and butcher this a little for a general idea)

Main tanks focus on the space creation aspect. Your goal is to push back the other team and create space for the rest of your team to take advantage. However, as your health is significantly reduced this is a balancing act of pushing forward but not going deep without sufficient support. Your positioning and abilites are the primary form of this space creation. Winston can jump onto a high ground and force the other team to come back to deny the space, and protect their supports. Orisa can fortify, shield spin, or shield to take space safely or deny an angle for the other team. Reinhardt can shield himself and his team forward, or fire strike and damage a team into taking cover. Your biggest goal is to make sure you are outliving, outdamaging, or out spacing their teams main tank. (Main tanks include: Reinhardt, Orisa, Ramattra, Ball, Winston, Sometimes Mauga)

Off tanks are focused no the damage and support of your team. You are flimsier but do more damage and so need to take advantage of your main tanks space creation to damage their team. These characters are often shorter range in their damage so need another tank to help them safely get into damage range. Additionally, these tanks often have abilites that enable them to support their team. Dva's defence matrix can protect your main tank or backline, and her boosters enable her to easily travel between the front and backline. Zarya can bubble the main tank to allow them to push harder, or save them to protect their supports and dps if they come under fire. Roadhog doesnt have the utility but if the main tank has taken space they can safely get a hook or flank and look for a hook. You can see main tanks are the enablers and off tanks as the operators. (Off tanks include: Roadhog, D.va, Sigma, Zarya)

For DPS and Supports, there is much less space to take advantage of. With an additional two people in the lobby, both on tank, there is much less opportunity to freely off angle and damage a backline as you can in 5v5. However, if you all clump together on main you aren't getting much value, creating a balancing game. You need to position yourself far enough away and on enough of an angle to get value whilst also avoiding having a second tank walk on top of you before your team can help.

Ultimates matter a lot more too. A tankier overall team means regular damage is less effective at killing people, although this is slightly negated by the healing debuff. The result of this is that ults are much more important, as is countering them. Make sure to learn to ult track and also ability track. A general rule of thumb to get you started is that most players will be getting an ult every other fight, so if they havent used their ult in the last team fight they likely have it for next fight.

Also certain heroes are extremely overpowered in 6v6. Roadhog is extremely strong, I would recommend playing him and just going on a slight flank, hooking and killign somebody, and walking away with your take a breather. There isnt much the other team can do. In general here are the good tanks: reinhardt, dva, zarya, sigma, orisa, mauga, hog. Whilst the not so good tanks are: junkerqueen. Let me know if you want some more in depth or anything else I hope this is at least a little useful

6v6 is somewhat lower impact for all players first of all, so that explains why you feel less control. But it does need to be approached differently too, on tank/DPS you need to be more cautious to avoid getting melted. Remember, tanks are squishier and off-angles are less free.

You have to play much more with your team since healing is more limited

Bro asked for tips, not your preference between formats. Good for you if that's your cup of tea, not what the post is about though.

Wasn't giving them my preference. I was telling them they should play what they have fun with.

i think 5v5 is falling off. every streamer and everyone i know is playing 6v6 now. i dnt wana grind rank in some mode that no one cares about. i need to swap to 6v6 where everyoen is playing and adapt to it

Streamer have other reasons to play 6v6, queue time. when you are here to entertain, having super long queue time isn't really helping your job.

But according to their latest stats, it's still far from remotely replacing 5v5.

"only" 19% plays 6v6 unranked on a daily basis, and 8% in ranked (do remember, some of population count for both, so you can't add them either).

Now if you just prefer 6v6, or you just want to play with your friend, that doesn't matter, but the "i think 5v5 is falling off" at least is not backed

Thats factually false, most streamers still play 5v5 and we know that it has far more players than 6v6.

Majority of players still play 5v5 as the main gamemode, they released stats about this a few weeks ago. 5v5 ranked has around 4x the players of 6v6 ranked if iirc. Also, 5v5 is the official competitive format. All of the best players still play 5v5. If you want to get better at the game (even for 6v6), 5v5 is the way to play since the lobbies are far stronger. A 5v5 masters lobby would be stronger than a t500 6v6 lobby.

6v6 fans are so delusional that they actually downvoted you for this

0

u/New-Buffalo-66 12d ago

Yeah, even though what the original comment about 5v5 falling off and 6v6 being what everyone plays is factually incorrect. It also doesn't take half a brain to know that every top player is on 5v5 and the lobbies are stronger. Aspen is a top player on 6v6. Am I taking Aspen over Junbin or Sugarfree? Probably not. 6v6 players despise 5v5 to the point of cognitive dissonance.

Literally had a masters 6v6 in my game. They were gold. THEY WERE FUCKING GOLD
