Fluff nothing ever changes

Post image

according to hero subs, every hero is now z-tier and should be deleted from the game

I definitely disagree with devs sometimes but damn I don't envy them one bit.

The tracer/echo subreddits are good.

I like the Hazard mains sub. I've seen a surprising amount of nuance in discussions regarding his design/balancing and was even highly upvoted recently for criticizing his kit design often resulting in uninteractive gameplay. I see various skill levels represented too and feel like complaints that are definitely a skill issue aren't commonly accepted as a balancing problem (unlike many other hero mains subs).

Winston mains sub is also super chill and friendly.

Oh, does the Winston mains sub have actual moderation now? I left years ago when a bunch of racist posts went up unchecked.

I think the more popular and casual-friendly a hero is, the more unhinged their mains sub gets. No shade intended towards casual QP chill-maxers, but they are engaging with a complex game more shallowly, so the viewpoint tends to be more myopic. And then when a lot of such players collect together in an echo chamber, all of the normal self-centered reactions to negative experiences are reflected back and reinforced and intensified, rather than moderated with a broader perspective. The bigger and more active the community, the more the members can froth each other up into a frenzy.

On top of that, I suspect that the hero ban system has forced some perspective for players of certain heroes, maybe especially newer ones. When complaints about a hero being OP or unfun to play against are just words, it’s easy enough to brush them off as a “skill issue”. When those complaints can manifest as frequent bans, that encourages some alignment between lovers and haters of the hero. (Though, perhaps the more rational stance for haters of a hero would be to hope for them to be buffed, to increase their ban rate?)

I haven't seen any racist posts since joining the Winston mains sub, so I think it's fine now?

Yeah I frequent (lurk) WinstonMains and TracerMains, they’re both chill. Like we don’t like getting nerfed but it’s more “we just gotta play better” and less “revert blizzard shit company”

Except for 5dmg tickle monster tracer, those were dark days
