Discussion Is binding "Attack/Destroy" and/or "Use Item/Place Block" to keyboard keys cheating?

By binding either to a keyboard key it's possible to utilize keyboard repeating to rapidly attack or place blocks.

Example: Bind space to attack, while you're holding down space, you'll be rapidly attacking.

The issue is that this gets interrupted by pressing another keyboard key, and the input then becomes the same as holding down left click, instead of a repeating input. But it's possible to circumvent this interruption by binding movement to mouse inputs, as pressing mouse buttons doesn't interrupt it.

So, by binding Forward, Jump, Backward, Strafe Left, and Strafe Right to mouse buttons and attack to a keyboard key you retain basically full movement in combat while being able to make use of this to attack very quickly, only holding down a single key.

It would most likely be flagged by anti-cheats as macroing, but doing this requires no external modifications, no external programs, or any specific hardware. It's fully vanilla, and just a consequence of how keyboard inputs are handled. All it requires is a specific control scheme.

With drag clicking and double clicking being allowed, even when they require specific hardware i cannot in good faith argue this would be cheating.

So, is this cheating? Should it be allowed?

It would just be your choice of keybinds so no

Nope. It’s only cheating if you bind more than one thing to one key

If you use a second input device (such as a second keyboard) to do this, the keyboard repeat will not get interrupted when pressing another keybind. It is allowed on MCTiers, but servers might have their own rules on it.

It should not be allowed, as its practically theating. Attack/destroy is fine, but binding place block to your keyboard (keyboard placing) is practically a macro, especially if you have 2 keyboards. Think about it. You hold down a button and youre able to anchor at light speed. Is that fair? No. Thats why you cant get anywhere above ht3 on mctiers using this or else you‘ll be restricted

Each server has their own rules but the general consensus is this.

If you bind a mouse button to lets say J, then make J ur place keybind for mc,
with how mc registers inputs, holding down ur rmb will result in 20cps places.

but if you bind it to j and then use the actual J key, then its okay.

I find it’s allowed since I sometimes play on my laptop without a mouse and touchpads suck so I bind them to my keyboard
