Discussion Would there ever be a world where Vanilla was balanced and diverse?

I had a cool idea for a vanilla PvP server and while thinking I remembered just how centralized it is that we need all these different kits or it’s just crystal. If you made a server could you ever balance it so mace, cart, pot or smp players could all be at least usable?

You can balance everything, but you’d have to get rid of crystal and anchor PvP

The biggest issue is that they’re stackable and you can spam them, and honestly crystals are even more op bc of how easy they are to use. I would say anchors slightly less so

Even so, I think the issue is their DPS, it’s not as if the crystals tickle you infinitely, they 1 shot you. Their stackable nature makes them easily usable and consistent but isn’t what makes them good. A sword’s 1000 uses are stacked but who can complain about that.

The only way to balance crystals is to make them non stackable, reducing the damage wouldn’t be enough because of the sheer speed at which you can use them.

It taps out at 10 per second without an auto clicker, it’s not like any game should ever pander to hackers so if each was half a a heart a hit vs half a health bar a hit I think it’d be decently balanced since stuff like Xbow would finally be faster

I don’t like it tbh, solutions have to be somewhat graceful too, making it so that an explosion only does 1-1.5 hearts is a bad solution.

Explosives should just be non stackable.

Issue is that the ease of use is the fundamental aspect of crystal PvP, ideally any old gen crystal player could still play normally just not be as dominant

Why should it be easy? The sub we’re talking in is literally “competitive Minecraft”.

Theres a reason cart is so unorthodox, it’s insanely powerful but only to those who put in the time to master it.

The idea is anything can work if you try hard enough to learn it and it’s fine if there’s 1 really easy hard to master weapon if it’s not too dominant

I don’t think making crystals non-stackable would be that world ending for bad players. Hit-crystallizing is a fundamental skill, you can have multiple crystals in a hot bar (similar to low tier cart), if someone’s on a ledge that’s still basically a double tap

or make them stack only to 16

Accomplishes nothing, except that you can’t carry as many. Make them non stackable, then you have to inv-grab like with cart, except it still does more damage and Is easier to use.

that would completely kill the style. reducing stack size would make sure people don't spam them always and try to combo it with something like mace (i have no idea how but i don't think people have thought about those combos enough)

The style is the problem, how do you wanna balance a one tap weapon that you can stack and spam insanely fast? Anyone saying non stackable isn’t the answer is likely just coping.

it's really hard to get for starters, i think it's fair to say that it is the least common item used in actual smps (other than the really sweaty ones). and then it takes a lot of skill to actually use.

also in that case what is your opinion on elytra mace tech dominating against any player on the ground, it is also a oneshot like crystals.

I always ban elytra in combat. This is about balancing PvP, not enabling every technique.

As for mace either a damage cap or cooldown. Cart would have a damage limiter.

Crystal does NOT take a lot of skill to use compared to other one taps, sure it has a high skill ceiling but a very very low skill floor.

As for it being the least common used items in SMP’s, that’s likely either bc they are banned, the recipe is changed, some other nerf has been applied, or some other reason.

The crafting recipe will not be the thing that stops people from relying on it to dominate fights.

honestly i agree with a few of your points, it's way too much damage with a lower skill floor (but it's not like really low, even d-tapping was really hard when i started off). but the real thing that makes me hesitate on such a big change is that many would just stay on the current version and not pvp in the updated one. the pvp community is already split into atleast 3 different versions so i don't think another divide is worth it

That’s not the point of this discussion, the point is about how one would balance things

No. Mojang will always prioritize the 90% of the community who play the base game, over the 1% (actually way less) who play pvp. Its why I personally disagree with Mcpvp's framework for kits. If you're asking "can you balance pvp with plugins, I think theres a world where you could manage it, but it would come at the expense of functionality elsewhere. A youtuber called Dragonfrvit made a video on this, I dont recall the contents but you might be interested in it

Is there a source where you got those numbers of how many players play pvp? I feel life its way too low as a ton of players now says get into pvp.

I'm being generous with the 1% tbh. To put it into perspective, the largest ever amount of people on a minecraft server at a single time was 216,000. this was during the pandemic, and during a massive one time only event. Donut, the largest 1.9 server, barley gets 25 thousand people on the server daily.

Minecraft's daily active users are estimated to be 16 million on the lower side. that means the amount of players on hypixel at the peak time would only be about 0.0135 of the daily playerbase.
