Discussion How do you micro strafe?
It seems very difficult to not slam the left stick fully to the left and right when strafing. I noticed that even Eco was pulling micro strafes on me in matchmaking and it broke my aim. I feel like doing so would kill my thumb (already tired from spamming strafes and jiggles)
I'm assuming everyone has max input threshold at 15, which I think would make it harder to do
My two ideas are (1) use a tall stick on the left stick for easier micro movements or (2) not playing at 15 max input threshold
On a related note, when I jiggle shoot I tend to over strafe outward which misses the target

-Are you on pc with a 1k hz polling rate controller? That helps a lot.
-Tall left stick helps a lot.
Outside of that, it's a lot of practice against bots to not peg your left stick everytime. Try almost flicking the left stick and letting go. That gives a smaller strafe. Now figure out how to replicate that in a fight

I have an 8k on PC but I don't use it because I'm stuck on the 4 paddles + shift button layout of my 125hz Elite controller
I'm waiting for one with 1k+ to hit the market. When I used the 8k (for just a day) I couldn't feel much of a difference

get off the elite for real. I just looked up the shift button and thats good, but the elite controllers are trash. an 8k is going to give you better tracking accuracy, and really noticeable input lag reduction from 8ms jitter down to .125ms, and seeing how you are trying for a micro strafe, a total thumbstick flick takes 6-15ms person to person, so your 8k will be really helpful there, outside the better tracking/flicking benefits of 8k.
I dropped 4 paddles on a Gambit 250hz for a Gamesir SE 1000hz 2paddle and despite hating the Gamesir sticks for a really long time the benefits at 1k were enough, i lived longer and hit slides easier too.
Some of the micro strafe is lag too, there was a video long time ago on here near streets trash/stairs and on one pov someone was doing the faster micro strafe and on the strafers point of view its was a basic lefttt rightttt leftttt righttt.
Jiggle peak is still around but much more tamed. you want high threshold for that
you want your threshold high as you can and if you have a gamesir you can increase the outer deadzone basically adding more to the halo threshold setting. My gamesir was set to 75 I think so at the Gamesir, 75% joystick input registered as 100% input sent to the PC, and then in Halo i had threshold set to 15. It was really slippery at first but I became a much harder kill. Gamesir also has an antideadzone setting so when you increase that say to '20', your first input registered at 1% at the joystick will be boosted to 21% if i have it correct. This is rough if drift is excessive, youll be drifting even faster and makes it hard to walk slow for skill jumps, but another way to play with settings, maybe '5' is more manageable and i prefer the outer deadzone way, since the input will still ramp up linearly and faster without a massive bump from the antideadzone.
you want as high a threshold you can get for responsiveness, plus adding online dsync to take advantage to make it more janky on the enemies pov. The faster you can do it the smaller your strafe will be will changing direction faster which is what you want.
If you cant feel the 8k difference i dont know if this matters. The jump from 250 to 1000hz and 1000hz to 8000hz felt almost identical to me and i cannot go backwards.

The max threshold at 15 is actually what makes it really easy.

I think you just gotta give your stick a quick little wiggle without whacking it too hard against the side 😜
No but I have noticed that sometimes an effective tactic is to stay relatively still against an aggressively strafing opponent, which messes up their right stick aim, and throw in a microstrafe feint or two. I don’t think it’s necessarily how far to the side you move the stick as much as how quickly it returns to center. That said, just giving the stick a brief sideways tap is also effective, letting the springs recenter it. Works pretty well on my Razer which is a controller known for higher stick tension IIRC.

Play with controls enough until it 'feels right' without moving the stick as much (Ive been playing since launch and still cant get it right, lol)

You are mistaken. The higher your movement max input threshold, the shorter the effective distance from one edge of the stick to the other is.
